SUMMARY:Artist Call for Proposals: The 5th Annual Off-Kilter Cabaret\, by Off-Leash Area
DESCRIPTION:Off-Leash Area announces an Artist Call for Proposals for the 5th Off-Kilter Cabaret. Off-Leash Area’s Off-Kilter community program highlights and supports artists with disabilities creating original performance work. The annual Off-Kilter Cabaret is an evening length cabaret-style production\, composed of 5 to 7 acts in any performing arts form. The Cabaret is curated by the Off-Kilter Leadership Team\, who are leaders in the disability community\, and 80% of whom are themselves persons with disabilities. \nInterested applicants are asked to submit a proposal for a performance piece that is 5-10 minutes in length that speaks to this year’s Off-Kilter Cabaret: “Location! Location! Location!”. Off-Leash Area co-artistic director Jennifer Ilse says\, “We all have seminal places in our lives – What happened there\, or what do you hope will happen? Where do you go when you want to escape? Where do you thrive and where do you struggle? We are excited to see everyone’s unique interpretations of the theme in their proposals for this year’s Off-Kilter Cabaret.” \nPerformances will be held February 26-28\, 2027 at the Playwrights’ Center\, a fully accessible theater space. The event will include accessibility accommodations including ASL interpreting\, captioning and audio description.\nThe Call for Proposals will open September 25\, 2026\, and artists with disabilities are asked to submit proposals by October 23\, 2026. \nThe Off-Kilter Advisory Team are: writer and storyteller Amy Salloway\, national touring musician Gabriel Rodreick\, and Sam Jasmine\, host of the Disability and Progress program on KFAI. Off-Leash Area is excited to be partnering again with Young Dance\, whose mission is transforming lives through movement.

Just step out your front door\, and join your neighbors at the show! \nThis year’s tour features a remount of Off-Leash Area’s magical and comical production\, Stardust Rendezvous\, in which three wayward space travelers from three remote galaxies simultaneously crash-land on an asteroid at the edge of nowhere. As they comically circumnavigate their wildly different cultures\, will they finally come together to defy the gravity of their situation\, and succeed in a valiant attempt to shoot for the stars?! \nWeekend 4 — Hosted by Turbo Tim’s Anything Automotive Northeast\nFriday\, October 2 at 7:00pm\nSaturday\, October 3 at 7:00pm\nNortheast: 2823 Central Ave NE\, Minneapolis\, MN 55418 \nAdmission is by sliding scale with a $5-$30 suggested donation. Audience seating is fully accessible at all tour locations (restrooms have limited accessibility). \nStardust Rendezvous continues Off-Leash Area’s 27-year run of wildly imaginative\, physically dynamic\, visually striking\, and award-winning work\, and features choreography\, script\, music\, projection design\, lighting design\, and performances all by Twin Cities artists. Additionally\, with The Neighborhood Garage Tour program Off-Leash Area continues to center inclusion and access for artists and audiences of all abilities. Verbal and non-verbal communication will be artistically crafted as part of Stardust Rendezvous\, weaving art-making and accessibility together. Featured on TPT’s MN Original program and Fox 9 News\, Off-Leash Area’s Annual Neighborhood Garage Tour has delighted over 3600 Minnesotans of all ages with 120 performances of four original productions presented throughout the Twin Cities metro in 44 neighborhoods of 17 municipalities. \nThis activity is made possible by the voters of Minnesota through a grant from the Minnesota State Arts Board\, thanks to a legislative appropriation from the arts and cultural heritage fund.
