Production Manager Position Open – Ananya Dance Theatre

Ananya Dance Theatre seeks an experienced Production Manager with a heart for social justice; on an ongoing basis to coordinate and run the technical aspects of our dance theatre performances and workshops, at home and on tour. We are ready to build a recurring annual relationship that can grow with the company’s needs and the successful candidate’s desires for their future. 

Annual Schedule and Rate:

  • Extended collaborative creation of new work: January-September.
  • Annual premiere of approximately 90-minute work: September/October (in Saint Paul).
  • Entire company on break: December of each year.
  • Ongoing touring engagements: January-November. Likely 2-3 engagements over the course of the year. Most engagements will be 3-5 days, though one might be a week or more. Touring opportunities are always emerging, though we always have 2-3 months’ notice minimum, and we work through our company members’ non-ADT commitments.
  • Estimated annual hours (to be scheduled as needed, heavily weighted towards September, includes touring): 300
  • This is an hourly “Work For Hire” annual contract. Rate is $25/hour commensurate with experience. Touring rate is $150/day (expenses paid by ADT).

Duties include:

  • Scheduling and facilitating meetings with designers/collaborators during extended collaborative process (January-September, annually).
  • Attending occasional rehearsals to be familiar with the work and facilitate the details of collaborative decisions. Occasional in January to fully engaged in September. Rehearsals are evenings and weekends at our studio in Saint Paul, except for tech week.
  • Representing ADT to work effectively with venue production crews at the O’Shaughnessy for the premiere and on tour.
  • Calling or running lights/sound/backstage for performances. Dependant on venue – some provide staff, others may require you to run Qlab yourself. While you will not need to program lighting, sound, or video cues, you may need to troubleshoot. Annual Fall premiere at the O’Shaughnessy and intermittent touring throughout January-November.
  • Coordinating and communicating schedule and logistics including transportation and lodging for all live engagements to dancers, venue/community host, technical staff, etc.
  • Our next full production is MICHHIL AMRA!: WE ARE THE PROCESSION!, premiering September 22-23, 2023 at The O’Shaughnessy at Saint Catherine University. This work is currently in creation/rehearsal.

Requirements:

  • Basic knowledge of Qlab.
  • Experience with calling and running a live performance in dance, theatre, multidisciplinary, corporate events, etc.
  • Basic management experience, including motivating, problem-solving, and delegating.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage complex schedules and needs among 7-10 artist collaborators plus 12 company dancers.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Nimble mind; the ability to project calm into complex and time-pressured situations such as during live performances; a joyful work ethic.
  • Full availability for tech week and the premiere of MICHHIL in September 2023.
  • Available to tour internationally during the week following the premiere, September 27-October 6.

Cherry on top:

  • Experience and/or leadership in social justice community work.
  • Strong interpersonal management experience.
  • Background in anti-racist, anti-misogyny, and liberation work.
  • Background and/or demonstrated interest in dance.
  • Bachelor’s degree (in any field).
  • Current driver’s license.
  • Current passport and international travel experience.

Movement as Language Seeks Collaborating Artists

James Sewell Ballet Audition Notice

James Sewell Ballet (JSB) is seeking dancers for both project and full contract work in the 2023/24 season.

JSB currently consists of six dancers willing to challenge their physical limits, perform a range of emotions, and play with the boundaries of ballet. The company rehearses in Minneapolis, MN, and performs three full programs a year, in addition to other outreach and touring engagements. Choreographic and teaching opportunities regularly exist throughout the season.

Dancers well suited for this job will:

  • Have excellent ballet technique and contemporary movement.
  • Have strong improvisational skills, or minimally an eagerness to learn.
  • Have good partnering knowledge and ability, including sustained overhead lifts for men and ability to weight-share for all.
  • Enjoy teaching opportunities that include company classes and outreach with all ages.
  • Be enthusiastic about actively participating in the creative process.
  • Bring individual competitiveness and interest in growing as an artist, and excitement to be a part of a small, cooperative team.

JSB offers 26-30-week competitive contracts. Starting salary is no less than $700 per week for a full-contract position. The mission of James Sewell Ballet is to transform dance, artists, and audiences through rich collaboration, education, and equitable opportunities.

RTDG is a multi-generational contemporary dance company seeking an experienced, classically training dancer for upcoming July 2023 paid performances.

Brigadoon – Dancers Needed

Searching for 6-8 strong dancers, who are highly trained in ballet and jazz.

Vocal rehearsals begin on April 23 and dance rehearsals begin May 8. Dancers are not required to sing, but may do so if they choose.

The lead male dancer (role of Harry) will be given a stipend for their work, due to the large nature of the role.

Katha Dance Theatre Seeks Stage Manager for Upcoming Performances

Katha Dance Theatre seeks an experienced Stage Manager for its upcoming performance of Kathak E-motion at the Park Square Theatre. The temporary position will last from April 24 through the final performance on April 30. This is a paid position.

Responsibilities:

  • Attend one rehearsal at KDT’s studio, 5806 W. 36th Street, St. Louis Park, MN 55416, prior to show week to familiarize yourself with the show

Collide Theatrical Apprentice Program

2023/2024 Apprentice Program runs September 2023-May 2024.

Collide Theatrical’s Apprentice Program provides the skills needed to pursue formal positions within the Collide company and in the world of theater dance.

Selected Apprentice dancers will take technique class with the Company 3-5 days a week, have an opportunity to perform in a Collide show, and participate in an Apprentice showcase at the end of the year.

The technical classes include a variety of styles rooted in ballet and jazz, but also include tap, acting for dance, and hip-hop. Apprentice dancers will also have an opportunity to participate in monthly master classes with Broadway touring dance captains and industry professionals.

This is a tuition-based program. Scholarships are available for underrepresented artists.
Enrollment is competitive and audition based. Video submissions accepted.
