Threads Dance Project NexGen Youth Dance Project

Threads invites students ages 12-16 to apply for our 12-week pre-professional dance training program, NexGen> Youth Dance Project (YDP).

NexGen> YDP uses a holistic approach to training future dance artists. The program enables youth to enhance technical skills, explore creativity and manage stress and trauma in a safe, supportive environment. Students will receive 6 hours per week of high – level training and education from professionals in dance and health care professionals in the areas of ballet technique, modern dance technique, dance – movement therapy, and nutrition.

Program Schedule: Tuesdays, 4:30-8:00pm and Thursdays, 4:30-7:00pm
Begins March 7. Ends with a student performance the week of May 23.

Program Cost: $450, with need-based scholarships available.

Who Should Apply? The program is seeking 20 students ages 12–16.

How to Apply: Complete the application. Students will be asked for demographic information and to submit a link to a 2-3 minute movement reel that may include studio and/or performance footage. Video link is required at time of submission.

Applications will be accepted January 23 – February 17. Students will receive notification of acceptance into the program by February 20, 2023.

Paragon Pilates and Physical Therapy Seeking Part-Time Administrative Assistant

Paragon Pilates, Physical Therapy and Dance Medicine, is hiring a part-time Administrative Assistant.

The ideal candidate is someone who is committed to the company, where there is room to grow in several directions. Seeking a resourceful and inclusive person, with strong critical reasoning and problem-solving skills. Strong customer service skills and proficiency in all Microsoft Office computer programs is a must. This person will report to the Studio Manager but must be able to work independently as well.

15-20 hours per week: Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 8:30am-2:00pm and Friday from 10:00am-2:00pm (this day is flexible). $15/hour for the first 3-6 month trial period and then we look at any increase to salary based on experience and competency.

Paragon is also hiring a comprehensively trained Pilates Teacher with 3 or more years of experience.

Taja Will and Mathew Janczewski Seek Dancers for Two New Projects

Two-day audition process blending modern, contemporary and improvisational skills. We encourage you to attend both days, but it is not required.

Auditioning for two project ensembles, ARENA DANCES seeks experienced dancers with strong technical, artistic, and creative abilities for Erased Steps. Choreographers Taja Will and Mathew Janczewski seek artists for a new “Merge” collaboration.

Erased Steps – ARENA DANCES’ artistic director, Mathew Janczewski, and fellow collaborators Dustin Haug, Leslie O’Neill, and Laura Selle Virtucio seek dancers for a new ensemble work of 12-15 dancers that will premiere August 24 and 25 at Union Depot in St. Paul and tour to Rochester, MN to perform August 26 at the Rochester Civic Center. Professional dancers of all ages, backgrounds, and experiences are encouraged to apply. Applicants will be asked to improvise, as well as learn phrase work. We are looking for diverse performers who are creative, collaborative, and expressive. Must be available starting May to August, 2023.

Callbacks Tuesday, March 28 from 6:00-8:00pm.
Rehearsals to be determined amongst the ensemble.

“Merge” – Choreographer’s Mathew Janczewski and Taja Will seek dancers for a new ensemble work that will premiere in March 2024 on the Goodale Stage, at the Cowles Center. Taja (they/them), is a QTBIPOC, disabled artist whose process is rooted in a restorative justice pedagogy, healing, and disability justice foundations and proposes structured improvisation as a performance modality in a collaboratively authored process. Their studio ethos is one of emergence and care work, focus and rigor, ritual and magic. Will and Janczewski meet at their shared passion for witnessing one’s self-expression through movement and their longtime friendship for the creation of this new work.

Participants will be asked to engage with rigorous attention to improvisation as a technique and performance modality as well as to work collaboratively on spontaneous choreographic choice-making. Must be available for an intensive 3-week rehearsal process September-November, 2023, and again February-March, 2024.

Dancers are paid $20/hour for rehearsals and a flat performance run of $500.

Collide Theatrical Apprentice Program

2023/2024 Apprentice Program, September-May
Collide Theatrical’s Apprentice Program provides the skills needed to pursue formal positions within the Collide company and in the world of theater dance.

Selected apprentice dancers will take daily technique class with the company, have an opportunity to perform in a Collide show, and participate in an apprentice showcase at the end of the year.

The daily technical classes include a variety of styles, rooted in ballet and jazz, but also including tap, acting for dance, and hip hop. Apprentice dancers will also have an opportunity to participate in quarterly master classes with Broadway touring dance captains and industry professionals.

This is a tuition-based program. Scholarships are available for underrepresented artists.
Enrollment is competitive and audition based.
Video submissions accepted.

James Sewell Ballet Audition Notice

James Sewell Ballet (JSB) is seeking dancers for both project and full contract work in the 2023/24 season.

JSB currently consists of six dancers willing to challenge their physical limits, perform a range of emotions, and play with the boundaries of ballet. The company rehearses in Minneapolis, MN, and performs three full programs a year, in addition to other outreach and touring engagements. Choreographic and teaching opportunities regularly exist throughout the season.

Dancers well suited for this job will:

  • Have excellent ballet technique and contemporary movement.
  • Have strong improvisational skills, or minimally an eagerness to learn.
  • Have good partnering knowledge and ability, including sustained overhead lifts for men and ability to weight-share for all.
  • Enjoy teaching opportunities that include company classes and outreach with all ages.
  • Be enthusiastic about actively participating in the creative process.
  • Bring individual competitiveness and interest in growing as an artist, and excitement to be a part of a small, cooperative team.

Young Dance Seeks Teaching Artists for 2022–23 Session and Beyond

Young Dance is seeking teachers, assistants, and substitutes for 2022-23 and beyond. Teachers with experience in the following styles are encouraged to apply: Hip Hop, Jazz, Musical Theater, Afro-Modern, Modern/Contemporary, Ballet, Percussive, and Creative Movement. Experience working with dancers of all abilities is a plus, but not required.

Founded in 1987, we believe young people are artists with something important to say and that working across differences is a benefit to all. Our mission is to transform lives through movement. We are an inclusive community where creativity flourishes and healthy risk-taking is encouraged. Our classes are open to everyone of all levels and abilities. Participants enjoy our collaborative and student-led approach to dance education. Our curriculum emphasizes technique, improvisation, and choreography through the elements of dance: Body, Action, Space, Time, and Energy. Dancers develop skills in observing, participating, and reflecting in a safe and supportive environment that values a commitment to self, to the group, and to lifelong learning.

The pay rate is $48/hour for lead teaching, and $24/hour for assisting.

Collide Theatrical Seeking Box Office Attendant

Collide Theatrical Dance Company is looking to hire a box office attendant for the remaining two shows of our 2022-2023 season:

SKOL is a full-length show that will be performed in March and April at the Southern Theater, and Our Stories is a cabaret performance at our St. Paul studio in May. For a full list of show dates and times, visit www.collidetheatrical.org/show-dates.

Duties include:

  • checking in attendees
  • marking reserved seating and distributing VIP bags
  • helping with set-up and take-down
  • working with the Southern Theater’s box office staff
  • other tasks as needed

Pay is $20/hour, 4-hour minimum per show. Paid training. For each performance, the box office assistant needs to arrive two hours prior to the show. Showtimes are generally 7:30pm Thursday-Saturday, and 2:00pm and 5:00pm on Sunday.

Contemporary/Ballet/Freestyle Dancer Audition

Casting Notice:
Our production company is looking for an experienced dancer 18 years or older with an extensive background in contemporary, ballet or freestyle dancing for an upcoming video.

The video is for a non-broadcast commercial for a creative real estate company which transforms older buildings into beautiful new spaces. We are casting a dancer to dance throughout the building/s.

The audition is to be self-taped, 45 seconds long, and emailed prior to 11:00am on Monday, January 30. Call-backs will be in person. We plan to film at the beginning of February.

Associate/Assistant Professor in Dance at MSU Mankato

The Department of Theatre and Dance seeks a tenure-track, assistant, or associate professor in dance. Review of applications will begin February 1, 2023 and continue until the position is filled.

Required qualifications:

  • Doctoral or terminal degree in MFA or PhD in Dance (if ABD, degree must be conferred on an official transcript and received in Human Resources by August 14, 2023).
  • Experience teaching in the college/university setting.
  • Experience teaching a variety of dance levels from novice to emerging young professionals.
  • Evidence of appropriate professional, creative and/or scholarly research activity in dance.
  • Demonstrated ability to serve a diverse population and apply an equity lens to this position including social justice and/or anti-racism.

Analog Dance Works Hiring Marketing Coordinator for Upcoming Production

Analog Dance Works is looking for a dynamic team player to join Analog’s upcoming production, The Awe Factor.

Marketing Coordinator

  • Reports to Artistic Director
  • 0.5 to 2 hours weekly for the duration of project.
  • Approximately 48 hours total work, starting June 2023 through one month after 2024 production, TBC and funding pending.
  • Compensation: $1,100 stipend, negotiable.

Role

  • Plan, design, and implement a marketing campaign for The Awe Factor.
  • Coordinate marketing efforts with Artistic Director and Science Community Coordinator, as well as with presenting venue.
  • Keep website current throughout the duration of the project.

Bonus skills:

  • Experience in designing promotional material for print, social media and websites.
  • Social Media master-level knowledge.
  • Excellent writing, organizational skills.
  • Thinking outside the box.

This job is majority remote with possible in-person meetings and event attendance.
