Workshop/Audition with Margaret Ogas

Join a free and open workshop with choreographer Margaret Ogas. Using an interdisciplinary approach rooted in dance and informed by Chicana cultural sensibilities, Ogas’s works tell surreal everyday stories through a collage of movement, text, and sound. She is a 2023 Jerome Hill Artist Fellow.

This workshop is an opportunity to connect with Margaret’s process and be considered for a new ensemble work. Participants may choose whether they wish to audition. If cast in the work, artists will be paid for rehearsal time.

Sunday, January 29, 2:00-4:30pm

BIPOC and queer artists are especially encouraged to join. Please email margaretnogas@gmail.com with any questions. To learn more about Margaret’s work, visit margaretogas.com.

Crude Tuesdays at the Bryant Lake Bowl

CRUDE TUESDAY spelled with yarn, button, and miscellaneous materials

Dear movers, dancers, and lovers of the body,

Introducing Crude Tuesdays, a new monthly gathering at the Bryant Lake Bowl!

We are transforming the stage of the BLB (it’s a small stage, some have said it measures 9×22) into a space to play, experiment, perform, and create in the moment – with each other, for each other, with love, joy, and raw honesty shaking up our bones.

Concretely, we want to provide a space for movers to perform: whether you want to share your work-in-progress, improvise, facilitate a spontaneous group dance, or sit in silence for 5 minutes, we welcome you to the stage. And if you want to come and watch, we welcome you to the chairs.

If you’d like to perform, please send an email addressed to zoeque15@gmail.com and kendallmkramer@gmail.com for more information. We are encouraging short pieces for now (between 3 and 15 minutes) so that (hopefully) everyone can have a turn.

Come, come, bring your bodies and your heart cups, and get ready to be surprised.

With love,
Zoë and Kendall

Returning in 2023, the Choreographic Development Residency is a four-week program to foster the development of new work by emerging choreographers of exceptional promise. Through this initiative, UNCSA School of Dance looks to deepen its mission of developing original works, supporting artists and giving back to the broader community. Open to all U.S. residents.

Choreographic Development Residency – 2023 dates TBD

UNCSA Summer Dance will award four choreographers the opportunity to further their choreographic research and create new dance works by providing studio space, dancers and personal mentoring with Helen Pickett.

The afternoons are devoted to rehearsals with a cast of dancers from the UNCSA Summer Dance Intensive. Additionally, choreographers will have access to our studios for further choreographic research. The residency culminates in a performance of the work at the Stevens Center performance venue in downtown Winston-Salem.

Choreographers are chosen from an open call, and participants will receive room, board and a stipend.
