Katha Dance Theatre Seeks Diverse Dancers to Join Training Program

Katha Dance Theatre has been performing and educating in Kathak, the classical Indian dance form, since 1987. Kathak is a beautiful dance form that is grounded in a mixture of balletic lyrical movements and pirouettes as well as complex rhythmic footwork. Because it originated as a form of storytelling, the form also has a strong emotional component and evokes narratives through dancers’ gestures and facial expressions. KDT has been working for over 35 years to make the form accessible and inclusive through offering programs throughout the state of Minnesota (and beyond) and collaborating with multicultural artists on original work.

With that in mind, KDT is seeking dancers of diverse mediums and ethnic backgrounds to join their school on a track to eventually join the professional company. The organization has received grant funding that enables it to offer full scholarships to at least 5 dancers outside of its majority-South Asian community to begin Kathak training.

The training would begin ASAP, with Fall classes now ongoing. Professional dancers of any kind are welcome, with male dancers being especially encouraged to join. To learn more about the upcoming session, go to our website and email info@kathadance.org if interested.

Individual Gifts Manager, Full-time

Facilities Associate, cleaning focus, Full-time
This position assists the Facility Manager in the daily operation of the facility including but not limited to housekeeping, HVAC, general maintenance and some security. Events Associate, Part-time
The Cowles Center Events Associate’s primary responsibility is to ensure patrons at The Cowles Center have a positive, enriching experience in our facilities. Urgent – Dance Faculty needed at St. Olaf College

Due to unforeseen circumstances, the St. Olaf College Dance Department is looking for an instructor(s) for the following courses to begin on October 10, 2022 and continuing through December 14, 2022. No class during Fall Break, October 15-18, and during Thanksgiving Break, November 23-27:

Dance 231: Choreography and Improvisation
A basic course in principles and methods for creating dances, this course focuses on the elements of dance composition and improvisation, the relationship of form and content, and the relationship of the dancer and the dance. It is appropriate for students interested in any or all forms of dance and for those interested in other forms of composition (music, visual art, etc.). 
This full credit dance course meets on Tuesdays from 11:45am-1:10pm and Thursdays from 12:45-2:05pm. The salary for this course is commensurate with experience.

Dance 113: Hip Hop I 
This course explores the dance techniques of Party Dances, which began being termed “Hip Hop” dance in the 1980s. As a transformation of styles with Africanist parentage, this course focuses on the rhythm and groove embedded by the New York beginnings of proper Hip Hop. The course exposes students to the influence of Hip Hop on various cultures through the study of Party Dances and styles from New York to California, 1980s to 2000s. 
This .25 credit dance course meets on Mondays and Wednesdays, 9:05-10:00am and is graded as a Pass/No Pass course. The course content as listed in the description can be modified based on the instructor’s areas of expertise. The salary for this course is commensurate with experience.

The Department of Dance is a small, collaborative department committed to teaching and  presenting dance as a vital form of human expression, understanding, communication, and interaction; all of which are central to the liberal arts and fine arts traditions. St. Olaf is a charter member and an accredited institutional member of the National Association of Schools of Dance. The St. Olaf College B.A. in dance guides students toward lives and careers with strong physical, creative, and analytical skills at their foundation. Upstream Arts Seeking Teaching Artists

Upstream Arts is looking for experienced Teaching Artists of any artistic discipline to join our Teaching Artist roster: actors, dancers, clowns, painters, musicians, singers, playwrights, directors, physical theatre artists, multi-disciplinary performing artists, mixed media visual artists, writers, poets, composers, and all other unclassified artists.

This is a part-time position. Hours vary depending on organizational needs and artist availability. Applications accepted until September 23.

The mission of Upstream Arts is to use the power of the creative arts to activate and amplify the voice and choice of individuals with disabilities. In our programs, professional artists teach fundamental skills in a variety of art forms through activities that nurture self-expression, conversation skills, and group participation. We integrate individuals with cognitive, developmental, emotional, behavioral, and physical disabilities into multidisciplinary arts programming designed to develop social and communication skills vital to success in school, work, and life.

Upstream Arts’ Teaching Artists teach our multi-disciplinary arts-based curriculum in teams of 2 or 3 in schools, adult day centers, and community groups in the Twin Cities metro area and beyond. All classes are taught in a group facilitated structure with Teaching Artists rotating up front leading activities. Teaching Artists are provided paid training to learn how to teach our unique curriculum as well as training in teaching strategies for working with mixed-ability groups.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Collaboratively facilitate programs as part of a Teaching Artist Team
  • Attend Teaching Artist Training throughout the year
  • Assist with the development of new curriculum
  • Give and receive timely feedback

Skill Requirements:

  • Artistic background
  • Minimum 1-2 years Teaching Artist experience
  • Excellent group facilitation and communication skills
  • Ability to work and collaborate as part of a team
  • Ability to project an air of calm in hectic environments

Valuable Skills:

  • Experience working with people with disabilities
  • Bilingual in Spanish, Hmong, Somali, or American Sign Language
  • Ability to play a musical instrument
  • Background in education

Work Conditions:
This is an in-person position, with the possibility of some remote or hybrid classes.

Compensation:

TCB Announces Open Auditions for A Minnesota Nutcracker

This is a wonderful opportunity for dancers to be a part of a professional ballet production and join one of the most widely attended holiday events in the area. Auditions are open to all local dancers ages 7 and older.

There will be a mandatory parent meeting on Thursday, September 22 at 7:30pm. A $25 non-refundable audition fee will be due prior to the audition. Due to limited audition sizes, students must pre-register by paying the audition fee and filling out the registration link here before attending the audition. Audition fees are non-refundable.

Auditions are divided by Ballet Royale Minnesota level, or by age for non-Ballet Royale students.

Audition Times: 

12:00-12:45pm: Audition for Youth Ballet I/II/III and PPP 1A-3A (or ages 7-10) 

1:00-2:30pm: Audition for Youth IV, Intermediate I, and PPP 4A/4B (or ages 10+ with 1 year or less of pointe)

2:45-4:30pm: Intermediate II, PPP 5A and higher (or ages 12+ with greater than 1 year of pointe)

Saturday Morning Teacher Needed – Plymouth Community Dance Program

Looking for a teacher or teachers for Saturday mornings to teach in the Plymouth Community Dance Program. Be a part of our community-based dance program that offers affordable, accessible, high-quality dance education to youth!

Ages 3-4 ballet and tap – 8:30-9:15am

Ages 5-6 ballet and tap – 9:20-10:05am

Ages 12-18 jazz and hip hop – 10:10-11:30am

Ages 9-11 jazz and hip hop – 11:45-12:45pm

Ages 5-8 jazz and hip hop -12:45-1:30pm
