Familiarity with social networking sites and their use in marketing. Experience with writing for marketing. Experience with grant writing a plus though not necessary.

Working Profile:
Ability to organize and prioritize responsibilities, create and follow a calendar of responsibilities, manage details, communicate clearly and directly, strong creative writing skills, and work professionally in an informal atmosphere with a flexible schedule. Will work with supervision from the Artistic Directors.

Hours and Pay:
The Administrative Assistant will work an average of 5-6 hours per week. Hours are flexible. Minimum pay starting at $18/hour. The Administrative Assistant will be working mainly in the home office of the Artistic Directors of the company (owners of a friendly dog), with some off-site work possible.

Tasks and Responsibilities:
• Data Maintenance – update information in FileMakerPro
• Marketing – create and send monthly e-newsletters and email blasts for productions and events, press releases, working with the Artistic Directors on writing the copy; update and maintain social networking sites (Facebook, Twitter, mnartists.org, etc); update website
• Financial – track donations, enter cash disbursements and receipts in Quickbooks
• Support the organization with other administrative tasks as needed
• Attend bi-monthly board meetings and take minutes

A minimum 1-year commitment is required.

Upstream Arts Seeking Teaching Artists

Upstream Arts is looking for experienced Teaching Artists of any artistic discipline to join our Teaching Artist roster: actors, dancers, clowns, painters, musicians, singers, playwrights, directors, physical theatre artists, multi-disciplinary performing artists, mixed media visual artists, writers, poets, composers, and all other unclassified artists.

This is a part-time position. Hours vary depending on organizational needs and artist availability. Applications accepted until September 23.

The mission of Upstream Arts is to use the power of the creative arts to activate and amplify the voice and choice of individuals with disabilities. In our programs, professional artists teach fundamental skills in a variety of art forms through activities that nurture self-expression, conversation skills, and group participation. We integrate individuals with cognitive, developmental, emotional, behavioral, and physical disabilities into multidisciplinary arts programming designed to develop social and communication skills vital to success in school, work, and life.

Upstream Arts’ Teaching Artists teach our multi-disciplinary arts-based curriculum in teams of 2 or 3 in schools, adult day centers, and community groups in the Twin Cities metro area and beyond. All classes are taught in a group facilitated structure with Teaching Artists rotating up front leading activities.

Teaching Artists are provided paid training to learn how to teach our unique curriculum as well as training in teaching strategies for working with mixed-ability groups.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Collaboratively facilitate programs as part of a Teaching Artist Team
  • Attend Teaching Artist Trainings throughout the year
  • Assist with the development of new curriculum
  • Give and receive timely feedback

Skill Requirements:

  • Artistic background
  • Minimum 1-2 years Teaching Artist experience
  • Excellent group facilitation and communication skills
  • Ability to work and collaborate as part of a team
  • Ability to project an air of calm in hectic environments

Valuable Skills:

  • Experience working with people with disabilities
  • Bilingual in Spanish, Hmong, Somali, or American Sign Language
  • Ability to play a musical instrument
  • Background in education

Work Conditions:
This is an in-person position, with the possibility of some remote or hybrid classes.

The ideal candidate has a passion for the arts and is ready to work to ensure that all guests receive exceptional customer service. They will also be able to work independently while being able to handle various issues as they arise.

This position is part-time, 4–6 hours a month with a flexible schedule.

The Events Associate works as a representative of The Cowles Center by providing ticket sales for Cowles patrons in person and over the phone. This position serves as an ambassador for The Cowles Center and our performing companies by sharing information about productions, answering questions, and directing additional inquiries or concerns to the appropriate person or department within the organization.

Contempo Physical Dance Audition

An audition will be held for professional dancers for Contempo Physical Dance’s third international choreography residency, featuring commissioned work by the 2022 McKnight International ChoreographerMário Nascimento. Mário is Artistic Director of Corpo de Dança do Amazonas in Manaus, Amazonas, Brazil.

An audition class will be taught by Marciano while Mário observes remotely. In addition to the audition class, each dancer should prepare a solo up to one minute in length that expresses who they are as an artist. Mário in particular is seeking dancers that have a variety of talents, including but not limited to diverse movement backgrounds, as well as skills such as singing, playing an instrument or acting. BIPOC artists are encouraged to audition.

Thursday, August 25
9:30am-12:00pm

  • No pre-registration is required and it is free to audition. We will do on-site registration where dancers will provide contact information and note any scheduling conflicts.
  • Headshots and resumes are not required, but will be accepted.
  • Dancers will present 1-minute solos after the technique class.

Dancers selected will need the following availability for classes, rehearsals and performances:

  • Tuesdays and Thursdays, October 4, 6, 11, 13, 18, 20
    • 9:30-11:00am: Company class taught by Marciano
  • Mondays-Saturdays, October 24-November 12 – three weeks
    • 9:30am-5:00pm: Company class taught by Mário followed by rehearsal
  • November 14-17: Technical rehearsals – schedule TBD
  • Performances at the O’Shaughnessy on November 18 and 19 at 7:30pm

Twin Cities Ballet Performance Ensemble Auditions

The Twin Cities Ballet Performance Ensemble is an innovative group of non-professional adult ballet dancers whose mission is to share the love of dance with those in the Twin Cities metro area. The Performance Ensemble is a dancer-led program with performance and choreographic opportunities readily available. In order to maintain a level of excellence, high quality of technique and artistry, dancers will rehearse once a week on Saturday evenings. Performance ensemble members will have the opportunity to perform ballet excerpts during community outreach, seasonal, and charitable events throughout the term.

Advanced dancers aged 18 and older are invited to audition for the Twin Cities Ballet Performance Ensemble fall 2022 term on August 20 from 5:00-7:00pm. The fall term will run from September 3-December 22.

  • Dancers that are auditioning should be at least 18 years of age, as well as high school graduates.
  • At least three years of pointe experience is required.
  • Please wear ballet attire, ballet shoes, and pointe shoes for the audition.
  • Headshot and first arabesque shots are required.
  • No audition fee is necessary.
  • Dancers should feel free to arrive thirty minutes before the audition to warm up.

Video auditions may be submitted now through August 26. Video auditions must show proficient classical ballet technique to an advanced, non-professional, or professional level.

Dancers will be notified via email regarding acceptance no later than August 31.

Ballet Royale: Pre-Professional Program and Professional Division Auditions

Ballet Royale’s new Pre-Professional Program provides students with an even more rigorous and demanding training schedule, designed and created for students striving towards a professional or post-secondary dance career. Building on the ongoing success of Ballet Royale’s elite Professional Division program, the Pre-Professional program expands these opportunities to students of all ages—not just the highest levels.

Ballet Royale’s Professional Division is an elite day training program that provides a comprehensive advanced course of study for advanced, talented, and ambitious students. Students accepted in this program have demonstrated commitment and dedication, are at the highest technical and artistic level, and are approaching and preparing for a post-secondary or professional career. Select Professional Division students may be invited to dance as Student Trainees with the professional ballet company, Twin Cities Ballet.

Admission and acceptance into the Pre-Professional Program and Professional Division is by audition and invitation only.

Audition: Saturday, August 20
Ages 11-21 (with pointe) from 12:30-2:00pm
Ages 7-13 (no pointe) from 2:15-3:45pm
