Call for Artists with Disabilities: Apply for the Off-Kilter Cabaret

Off-Leash Area contemporary performances is pleased to announce a new call for submissions for our newest program, Off-Kilter Cabaret.

Off-Kilter is designed to highlight and support artists with disabilities, making space for and giving voice to artists with disabilities in the design and leadership of the program. The Off-Kilter Cabaret will be a 75-minute cabaret-style production, which in this inaugural year will be presented for four performances in the Barker Center for Dance on the U of MN West Bank campus on June 9-12, 2022.

Artists are asked to create a 5-10 minute performance work that speaks to the theme of the inaugural Off-Kilter cabaret – “Organ Recital.” This is a paid performance opportunity.

Roseville Dance Instructor – Saturday Mornings

Roseville School of Dance is hiring a Saturday morning Dance Instructor.

This position will focus on our younger dance classes, primarily tap and ballet. These classes are learning new techniques and will start learning their dances for the spring recital, May 21-22. Below is the class schedule and job description.

9:00-9:30am: Baby Ballet – ages 2-3 with parent

9:35-10:15am: Preschool Combo – Tap and Ballet

10:20-11:00am: Kindergarten – Ballet and Tap

11:05-11:50am: Beginner 1 Dance – Ballet and Tap

Job Summary:
Under the direction and supervision of the Dance Coordinator and Recreation Superintendent, the Dance Instructor will teach dance skills, interpret curriculum and choreograph dances.

Scope of Responsibility:
This position is responsible for teaching dance skills to Roseville School of Dance participants. Instructors are responsible for all aspects of designated class including: teaching dance skills, preparing class outlines, choosing music and choreographing recital dances, and attending and helping run the annual spring recital. Classes are held Monday-Thursday evenings and Saturdays.

Instructors teach an average of four hours per week depending on interest and experience level. Additional times scheduled for picture day and recital preparations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Teach dance classes using age ability appropriate skills.
  • Use appropriate classroom management skills
  • Use age appropriate language and music to teach class, leading with a positive attitude
  • Dress properly for the type of class you are teaching
  • Provide advance notice if unable to teach class. In the event of a needed absence, find a replacement and notify coordinator.
  • Assist in choosing recital costumes
  • Lead in a professional and courteous manner with the highest regard to the customer
  • Attend required staff meetings designated by Dance Coordinator
  • Lead in the planning, choreography and execution of dance performances for recital
  • Work as a team player with co-workers and in conjunction with other programs
  • Record weekly attendance
  • Remain in communication with Coordinator/supervisors.
  • Perform all job tasks within the rules and guidelines of the departments safety program
  • Perform other duties and assume other responsibilities as assigned or apparent

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Comprehension of Ballet, Tap, and Creative Movement.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with parents.
  • Ability to relate to others in a professional manner and to teach each child at their level.
  • Practice the principles of exceptional customer service, supporting the dance community and acting as a link between coordinator and daily classes.
  • Exhibit safety awareness and good judgement.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • At least one years’ experience instructing dance programs as a lead instructor.
  • Ability to plan, organize and lead dance programs.

Physical Demands and Working Conditions:
Roseville Parks and Recreation Dance Instructor generally works indoors at various designated buildings. The position requires high attention to detail 50-75% of the time and moderate physical effort 100 % of the time.

Hourly wage $15-$20.

Dance Tenure Track position 2022-2023 – St. Olaf College

The Department of Dance at St. Olaf College invites applications for a full-time, tenure track position in Dance at the Assistant Professor level to begin August 2022.

We are looking for an innovative, versatile teacher and artist scholar with depth and breadth of experience in African/African Diasporic dance theory and practice and evidence of integrating these into their teaching and research. The candidate will mentor undergraduate students academically and artistically, as well as stage choreographic and performance works for a varied student body. MFA in Dance or Ph.D. in Dance or a related field in hand or near completion by time of appointment required.

The Arena is Hiring Teachers

The Arena is seeking dance instructors for our DanceON after school programs and Moving Practice professional class series.

DanceON after school programs are for third-fifth graders on site at Minneapolis Public Schools. January-May contract.

Moving Practice is a professional dance class that meets Tuesdays, 10:00-11:30am with a monthly rotating roster of teaching artists honing their craft in contemporary forms of dance. Seeking teachers for the months of January, March, and April.
