The Department of Dance at St. Olaf College invites applications for a full-time, tenure track position in Dance at the Assistant Professor level to begin August 2022.

We are looking for an innovative, versatile teacher and artist scholar with depth and breadth of experience in African/African Diasporic dance theory and practice and evidence of integrating these into their teaching and research. The candidate will mentor undergraduate students academically and artistically, as well as stage choreographic and performance works for a varied student body. MFA in Dance or Ph.D. in Dance or a related field in hand or near completion by time of appointment required.

Twin Cities Ballet: Open Company Position for a Male Dancer

Twin Cities Ballet has an open position for a male-identifying company dancer for the second half of the 2021/2022 season, January 2–May 8, 2022. This is a competitive, salaried position with an 18-week contract. Strong classical ballet and contemporary skills required.

Our spring season includes:

TCB’s Choreographic Voices – TCB artists will explore the creative process and present experimental and new works on January 28 and 29 at the Dance Cube performance space at Ballet Royale Minnesota in Lakeville.

Pink Floyd’s The Wall: A Rock Ballet  – TCB will be performing its smash-hit original rock ballet at the Fitzgerald Theater in St. Paul on March 11–13, with live music from popular local band Momentary Lapse of Floyd.

Giselle – The season will conclude with the beautiful ballet classic, Giselle, at Ames Center in Burnsville on May 6–8. This will be the Twin Cities Ballet company premiere of one of the most popular and enduring ballet favorites.

Collide Theatrical Seeking Male-Identifying Dancers

Collide Theatrical Dance Company is seeking male-identifying dancers with strong ballet and jazz technique and acting abilities for a 16-week contract January 2022-May 2022.

DanceMN Seeks Co-Editor

DanceMN is seeking a Co-Editor to proofread and publish the DanceMN News, a role to be shared with current Editor Non Edwards. This position typically takes 3 to 5 hours per week, with the majority of the work happening Monday-Wednesday. The Co-Editor position would ideally be every other week, with the flexibility to trade weeks as needed.

In addition to general proofreading, duties include responding to community and user inquiries, light administrative work, and communicating with the Co-Editor and DanceMN Steering Committee.

A computer and internet access is required. Interested applicants should write to news@dancemn.org with a cover letter and resume. Interest/experience in dance is preferred. Experience with WordPress, Google Drive, and Mailchimp are helpful but not required. Applications will be accepted through November 20.

Compensation
$15-17 per hour, with likelihood of cost of living increase each fiscal year.

Audition: A TU Dance Project with Choreography by Marcus Jarrell Willis

TU Dance is holding auditions for live presentations and a film creation project this spring with performances at The O’Shaughnessy in St. Paul, Minnesota on May 13-14, 2022. With support from a MSAB Arts Tour Grant, choreographer Marcus Jarrell Willis will be working with a group of dancers for a nine-week rehearsal process to reimagine and expand upon his work Sensible Existence, which was originally created for the TU Dance Company in 2017. This experience will culminate in two live performances as well as the creation of a dance-for-film project that will be shared throughout the state of Minnesota and beyond.

For this project, we are seeking dance artists with a vast range of technical versatility. A keen sense of rhythm and articulation of gestural language is essential. Seasoned professionals to emerging dance artists are encouraged to audition.

Dancers will be compensated $600/week and hired as independent contractors. Airfare, housing, per diem and local transportation are not provided.

We seek an active, innovative practitioner with a developing national or international profile whose creative research focuses on contemporary lensing of African Diasporic movement or Urban and Street/Hip Hop forms to join our program as an Assistant Professor on the tenure track. This position will lead their specific movement track, be asked to teach in the program’s more general contemporary technique track if they have the necessary background, and have the opportunity to offer other courses in the program depending on the candidate’s background and research. Our dance program works intentionally to build a contemporary technique track that is informed by a wide range of aesthetics from across the globe.

Required Qualifications
● M.F.A. in Dance, other terminal graduate degree or equivalent professional experience and recognition
● At least 1 year of college- or university-level teaching experience or equivalent in non-university institutions in African Diasporic movement or Urban and Street/Hip Hop forms
● At least 1 year of college- or university-level teaching experience in dancemaking/dance composition or equivalent in non-university institutions
● A distinguished and active record of creative research output and dance pedagogy on a trajectory towards or already having an established national or international profile in either African Diasporic movement or Urban and Street/Hip Hop Forms
● Demonstration and understanding of the importance of the integration of dance scholarship, creativity and physical regimen to an undergraduate dance major’s growth as an artist, thinker, researcher and global citizen in alignment with the dance program’s mission of Contemporary Dance in Global Contexts and goal to provide a near conservatory dance training embedded in a national recognized liberal arts college
