New Communal Studio

Communal Studio is a collective space for rent for the community to take and offer classes/workshops/events. The space is 1200 square feet including a spacious entryway with coat hooks and shoe storage, a 629 square feet studio with dimmable lights, ceiling fans, mirrors on 2 walls and barres on 3 walls, a sound system with aux jack, and a back area with a bathroom, storage room, and 2 sinks.

MotionArt First Friday Improv Gathering

Center for Performing Arts, Studio 105w – next to 38th Street entrance.

This event is open to people of all ages and abilities. Enjoy being present in the moment, responding to other dancers, finding new ways of moving, and discovering form as it emerges during this fun evening of creative movement. We’ll begin with an informal warm-up and then improvise together based on movement ideas offered by participants.

Musician Dave Stagner will enhance our in-the-moment creations with his incredible guitar playing, and Klee Burke will help us wind down with her beautiful sound bowl playing. A fun and relaxing evening for all!

Come to move, to dance, to observe, or some of each!

Erin Thompson Teaches Advanced Contemporary Classes in Person and on Zoom

Erin’s advanced-level contemporary dance class at Zenon Dance School includes floor work, standing warm-ups, and phrase work, all designed to enhance the healthy use of joints and muscle groups as dancers release their weight fully into the support of the ground. Experiential awareness, body mapping, improvisation, and creative work are included as dancers channel their own expressive artistry within the movement.

Modern Dance Class with Thern at Tapestry

Dancing and finding pleasure in movement is for everyone of any age!

I’ve taught dance for all ages and experience levels for over fifty years. In my weekly session of modern dance classes, we’ll be working with somatic movement, structured improvisation, and floor work to build strength, flexibility, and ease of movement. You’ll learn patterns that move through space in community with other dancers, encouraging spatial and group awareness.

Mondays, 12:00-1:30pm
Drop in: $15-20. Cash or check made out to Kathryn Anderson.

TU Dance Center: Creative Movement Children’s Program

In Creative Movement for ages 3-5 and 5-7, children will grow in physical awareness and build basic movement skills, balance, coordination, flexibility, and strength. Students will expand their knowledge of musical instruments and the connection between dance and music, learn basic rhythmical movement phrases, and improvise and create dance ideas that communicate an experience or theme.

The TU Dance Pre-Professional Program is an intensive course of study integrating modern, ballet, African dance, conditioning, and creative workshops for students up to age 24.

The TU Dance Center Children and Teen Program introduces the joy of creative movement and beginning dance technique. Classes, divided by age, provide a comprehensive base on which to expand by developing body awareness, coordination, balance, flexibility, strength, and musicality.
