TU Dance Center: Creative Movement Children’s Program

In Creative Movement for ages 3-5 and 5-7, children will grow in physical awareness and build basic movement skills, balance, coordination, flexibility, and strength. Students will expand their knowledge of musical instruments and the connection between dance and music, learn basic rhythmical movement phrases, and improvise and create dance ideas that communicate an experience or theme.

The TU Dance Pre-Professional Program is an intensive course of study integrating modern, ballet, African dance, conditioning and creative workshops for students up to age 24.

The TU Dance Center Children & Teen Program introduces the joy of creative movement and beginning dance technique. Classes, divided by age, provide a comprehensive base on which to expand by developing body awareness, coordination, balance, flexibility, strength and musicality.

Erin Thompson Teaches Advanced Contemporary Classes in Person and on Zoom

Erin’s advanced-level contemporary dance class at Zenon Dance School includes floor work, standing warm-ups, and phrase work, all designed to enhance the healthy use of joints and muscle groups as dancers release their weight fully into the support of the ground. Experiential awareness, body mapping, improvisation, and creative work are included as dancers channel their own expressive artistry within the movement.

Modern Dance Class with Thern at Tapestry

Dancing and finding pleasure in movement is for everyone of any age!

I’ve taught dance for all ages and experience levels for over fifty years. In my weekly session of modern dance classes, we’ll be working with somatic movement, structured improvisation, and floor work to build strength, flexibility, and ease of movement. You’ll learn patterns that move through space in community with other dancers, encouraging spatial and group awareness.

The Arena – Drop-in Moving Practice with Leslie O’Neill

Moving Practice is a weekly class series with rotating instructors every month. Classes prioritize rigor, diversity of contemporary aesthetics, variety of class content, and commitment.

Pre-registration and payment beforehand encouraged.
Suggested price of $17 per class. Pay-as-able option on all classes – we would rather you join us than not be able to attend due to financial limitations.

Leslie O’Neill has danced professionally since 2004. She began her formal training at age 18 at the University of Wisconsin at Green Bay and received her BFA in Dance from the University of Minnesota in 2003. Leslie was a founding member of Black Label Movement from 2005-2009, and joined the nationally acclaimed repertory company Zenon Dance in 2006. She built a rich and diverse performance career at Zenon until its final performance in 2019 when the company closed its doors. Leslie has performed as a guest artist with the Minnesota Opera, Jon Ferguson’s Theatre Forever, Shapiro and Smith Dance, Tamara Ober, Paula Mann, Maggie Bergeron, Laura Osterhaus/SLO Dance, James Everest/Wavelets Creative, and Mathew Janczewski/ARENA Dances. Leslie has earned recognition for her excellence in performance with Sage Award Nominations in 2009 and 2016, and she is the recipient of a McKnight Fellowship for Dancers 2010. Leslie’s choreography has been supported by Red Eye Theater, Metropolitan Regional Arts Council, Walker Arts Center, Minnesota State Arts Board, and Bryant Lake Bowl’s 9×22, where she most recently featured her latest solo project.
