Join TCB’s professional ballet dancers at the Lakeville Area Arts Center for a fun-filled interactive performance event designed for families and children ages preschool through eight. The programs are less than an hour long—the perfect length for busy schedules and curious minds.

Dance With Me highlights age- and ability-appropriate body movement using different forms of dance, and features unique monthly themes, short dance classes, optional audience participation, and short performance demonstrations in costume by TCB’s professional company dancers. You are welcome to enjoy one, many, or all of the programs!

Paul Taylor molded the dance company that bears his name into one of the preeminent performing ensembles in the world, leading it until his death in 2018.

In this program, the company premieres a Northrop Centennial Commission by Peter Chu, paired with two classic Taylor works, the sublime masterpiece, Airs—hailed as “a  treasure” by The New York Times—and Promethean Fire, set to three keyboard works by Bach richly orchestrated by Stokowski.

Join us for the Sixth Annual Right Here Showcase, the community’s only annual juried program supporting Minnesota-based, mid-career performing artists who create original performance work.

Founding Artistic Producer Paul Herwig, 2008 McKnight Theater Fellow and 2005 City Pages Artist of the Year, steers the Showcase. Four artists are chosen through an annual public call and a panel review, to be awarded financial commissions plus technical and promotional support to present a new work of contemporary performance especially for the Showcase.

This year’s Right Here Showcase will occur February 24-27, at the Tek Box Theater on the second floor of the Cowles Center, with two artists performing each night.

Featuring these four powerhouse performance makers:

Benjamin Domask-Ruh– physical theater artist

Jess Forest – dancer, choreographer, and visual artist

Sam Johnson – performance maker

Queen DREA – musician and composer

Chitra Vairavan and Valerie Oliveiro offer two dances created through a year-long merging of energies, practices, conversation, ancestors, memories, breaths, places, sounds, and “Asian-nesses.” This performance brings the intentional and unintentional intersections of their diverse art forms to the surface.

Covid19: Effective September 1, 2021, all visitors to the Cowles who are attending a performance/event in our theater spaces are required to show either proof of a full course of COVID-19 vaccinations administered at least 14 days prior to the show or a negative COVID-19 test taken within 72 hours of the performance/event.

This untitled work will share the joy of “beating the odds.” Lieutenant Sunnie and Herb Johnson III come from different backgrounds but have reached similar outcomes thanks to resilience and perseverance. Through adversity, they found focus, and each accomplished goals that led them to where they are currently.

In a burst of creative filmmaking, the University of Minnesota Dance Program students, faculty, and guests responded to the COVID-19 pandemic and the call for social justice catalyzed by the murder of George Floyd.

Curated by UMN dance professors and choreographers Joanie Smith (Shapiro & Smith Dance) and Carl Flink (Black Label Movement), Dancing Our Way Out brings forward some of the truly unique and poignant cinematic visions produced by its community of embodied art makers and learners during the COVID winter, celebrating their rich diversity of perspectives, identity and aesthetics.

The 18-member, multi-ethnic company performs a forward-thinking repertoire that includes treasured classics, neoclassical works, and innovative contemporary works that use the language of ballet to celebrate African American culture.

This program includes the Northrop Centennial Commission, Higher Ground, with choreography by Robert Garland and music by Stevie Wonder, and Balamouk choreographed by Annabelle Lopez Ochoa with music by Les Yeux Noirs.

Passage, choreographed by Claudia Schreier with a commissioned score by Jessie Montgomery, offers a moving reflection on the fortitude of the human spirit, created in recognition of the 400th anniversary of the arrival of enslaved Africans to Virginia in 1619.

Back in the heydays of Block E, Patrick Scully had a loft in the very heart of Minneapolis – on Hennepin Avenue, above the Best Steak House, next door to Shinders’ on 7th. Some of his dancer friends/colleagues joined him in presenting a show called Dancing Upstairs. These friends are again joining together to share a show, hence Dancing Upstairs – Then and Now.

Twin Cities Ballet artists are excited to present new and experimental works on January 29 as part of TCB’s Choreographic Voices at the Dance Cube performance space at Ballet Royale Minnesota in Lakeville. 

The evening will showcase new choreography by Michaela Borowski, Garland Borowski, and Natalie Rossi, as well as classical variations performed by Twin Cities Ballet company dancers. 

This event is a thank you to our audience for their support over the last two years and in celebration of TCB’s return to in-person performances, with a suggested donation of $10, or as you are inclined.
