Don’t Miss TCB’S The Ruby Slippers: A Wizard of Oz Ballet

Twin Cities Ballet is excited to present our new original dance film, The Ruby Slippers: A Wizard of Oz Ballet.  Professionally filmed onstage at Ames Center, TCB’s fresh reimagining of the iconic tale features an original adapted storyline, musical compilation, and choreography that ingeniously blends ballet, jazz, hip hop, and modern dance styles. Join Dorothy and her friends for this fun and approachable family-friendly event!

Three great opportunities to experience the ballet:

1) Mother’s Day Livestreeam Fundraising Event: Sunday, May 9 at 2:00pm

This is the premiere of the film!  While there is no cost to attend this special livestream event, we are asking and hoping for donations to help support TCB and keep it strong and vibrant. Covid-19 has caused TCB substantial financial harm, and we are so grateful for any and all donations.

2) On-Demand Digital Streaming: May 13–16

We are also offering on-demand streaming of the film Thursday, May 13, through Sunday, May 16. During this time, you can view the film as many times as you like for a nominal one-time fee of just $40 per household.

3) Special VIP Offer to Attend the Filming in Person: May 5–6

TCB is offering a limited number of special VIP passes that will give a unique “behind-the-scenes” look at the filming process for this new, original video production! Become a 2021 sponsor of Twin Cities Ballet at the Director Level or higher ($2500+) on or before May 3, and you can receive a special VIP Pass that permits up to 4 individuals in the same household to view the filming process in person at Ames Center on Wednesday and Thursday, May 5 and 6.  A one-of-a-kind opportunity!

Rhythmically Speaking and Keane Sense of Rhythm Present Jazz on Tap

Local dance companies Rhythmically Speaking (RS) and Keane Sense of Rhythm (KSR) are thrilled to be working in conjunction to present Jazz on Tap, a series of live jazz and tap dance shows happening May 22-23, 2021 at outdoor venue The Shed at The Lab Brewery in St. Paul!

Rhythmically Speaking is presenting The Cohort 20/21, their show rescheduled from August 2020. Keane Sense of Rhythm is presenting Mirror and Fission, featuring works by choreographer Davon Suttles. As if live dance isn’t enough, there will also be live music, food trucks, and great drinks!

Refresh: The Space in Between a Screen and a Body

From April 26 through July 1.

The exhibition is accessible online as a series of videos recording the performances and the virtual reality artwork. A virtual panel discussion with the artists, curator and tech team will be 6–7:00pm, Thursday, June 24.

Refresh: The Space in Between A Screen and A Body exhibit brings immersive virtual reality experience to Metropolitan State Gordon Parks Gallery in Saint Paul, Minnesota.

Refresh: The Space in Between A Screen and A Body examines ways in which we embody virtual spaces and digital technology. This two-person exhibition at Metropolitan State University’s Gordon Parks Gallery features Karst, a virtual reality artwork by new media artist Snow Yunxue Fu, and original choreography by dancer/visual artist Lela Pierce.

Join the artists of Freddie—Break Free! for a behind-the-scenes documentary surrounding the creative process of this new rock ballet. Get a glimpse at rehearsal footage, filmed at the Ballet Co.Laboratory studios prior to COVID-19, along with interviews with artists and more.
