Beth Gill: Nail Biter

“Everything seems absolutely deliberate but also mysterious… a vivid dream, unexplained but not at all random.”—New York Times Critic’s Pick

Explore ritual and dance through science fiction and ancient myth in acclaimed choreographer Beth Gill’s darkly beautiful new work. Emerging as representations of our collective unconscious, five dancers—including Gill herself—transform a contemporary dance performance into an enigmatic and vital space of connection and loss with a sense of magic and awe. Nail Biter embodies her signature choreographic craft, creating what Dance Magazine calls a “sense of control that doesn’t stifle but rather beckons our curiosity.”

Friday, December 8 at 8:00pm
Saturday, December 9 at 8:00pm
Tickets start at $15. No additional fees.

The Nativity

CREO Arts & Dance Conservatory presents The Nativity at the Hopkins High School Main Auditorium, December 9-10, 2023. The show will be performed by The CREO DanceVERVE: Twin Cities.

Choreographed by director Christa Anderson Hill, Elyse DeVries, Brenda Nepsund, and Julia Moser-Hardy, the epic story of our Savior’s birth is told through the drama of dance and narration, featuring ballet and contemporary dance styles. As a familiar narrative unfolds, this production will juxtapose the story of the Lamb of God with the perspective of a little lamb learning the truth of God’s promise. Though the character of the lamb will appeal to young children; his insights about Christ’s genealogy will bring new depth to the story most think they know.

The mission of the CREO DanceVERVE is to teach young dancers to worship the Lord through service, prayer, commitment, and faith. The company is comprised of performers grades 6-12 who perform a wide variety of dance styles. Through participating in the CREO DanceVERVE, young people have an opportunity to grow in faith and express what they have learned through art and dance.

The Nativity runs about 1 hour and 15 minutes, with an intermission, and is appropriate for the whole family. Welcome in the Christmas season of joy with this not-to-be-missed performance!

Saturday, December 9 at 7:00pm
Sunday, December 10 at 2:00pm

The Awe Factor / L’Effet Waouh Post-Residency Performance

Join us at Alliance Française for the post-residency dance performance of the production L’Effet Waouh by Analog Dance Works!

This performance will be the presentation of the choreographic work created during Analog’s time inside Alliance Française’s walls. The performance will take place on Friday, December 15 at 6:00pm, followed by a Q&A with the company.

About the Production
From November 30 to December 15, Analog Dance Works, a contemporary dance company founded in 2019 by Brenna Mosser in Minneapolis, will inhabit Alliance Française’s art gallery and Grande Salle to test set design for their upcoming production, The Awe Factor / L’Effet Waouh.

L’Effet Waouh is inspired by the science of the emotion of awe and how it intertwines with the physical effects we are feeling from climate change. This set design will be constructed from plastic waste in the form of a thunderhead. Accompanying the set design will be a photo exhibit with Analog’s collaborating photographer, Bill Cameron.

Prints presented in the exhibit will be for sale that will benefit both Alliance Française and Analog Dance Works’ 11 dance artists and administration staff. This event is free with a $10 suggested donation. Registration is encouraged but not necessary.
