Analog Dance Works presents: The Awe Factor

World premiere!
May 16-19 at the TEK BOX Theater

This work, choreographed by Artistic Director Brenna Mosser, interweaves single-use plastic waste with the science of awe. In this fantastical and surreal world, 10 dancers examine how we access awe, what we do when we are confronted by it, and how we can harness this emotion to better our collective lives.

Portions of choreography presented in The Awe Factor were commissioned by Threads Dance Project for their Tapestries 7.0 program and by Alternative Motion Project for their Tenth Season Performance.

This activity is made possible by the voters of Minnesota through a grant from the Metropolitan Regional Arts Council, thanks to a legislative appropriation from the arts and cultural heritage fund.

Join us for TU Dance’s annual Spring Showcase featuring students from The School at TU Dance Center and dancers from CULTIVATE, A Trainee Program. The program will include CULTIVATE trainees’ self-choreographed solos as well as a work entitled “A Voyage in 4” by Christopher Ralph which premiered at the 2023 Winter Showcase. Students from the Children and Teen and the Pre-Professional Programs will share technique demonstrations in modern, ballet, hip hop, and African dance as well as perform in works by TU Dance Center teaching artists Daonna Lewis, Sa’Nah Britt, Davente Gilreath, Laurel Keen, and Gabrielle Abram (CULTIVATE Trainee). Please join us in celebrating these inspiring dancers and their dedication!

Join us for a unique experience in the museum as one remarkable local artist activates the work of another. Choreographer Alexandra Bodnarchuk presents a short original work she created in conversation with the sculptures of Zoran Mojsilov’s exhibition, Dry Neck of the Pig and Other Curios. This program explores the concept of dance as embodied gallery interpretation, inviting museum visitors to experience a different mode of engagement with visual art.

Alexandra Bodnarchuk is a Carpatho-Rusyn American choreographer and cultural activist based in Minneapolis, MN. As the Artistic Director and choreographer for Doma Dance Theater, Bodnarchuk creates original works for the stage and screen that draw together her ethnic heritage with contemporary movement practices. Centering the body as a tangible site of culture, Bodnarchuk explores questions of self-expression, community, dispossession, and cross-cultural identity through works that range from solo pieces to evening-length group performances. By amplifying her ethnic heritage and probing the connections among the Carpatho-Rusyn experience and diasporic communities around the world, Bodnarchuk offers a potent invitation to rediscover the unrecognized histories embedded in each of us. Twin Cities Flamenco Collective invites the Twin Cities Argentine Tango community to celebrate the convergence of two beautiful art forms, flamenco and Argentine Tango. Bridging the two worlds is guest flamenco guitarist Scott Mateo Davies, founder and musical director of ROGUE TANGO, a four-person ensemble dedicated to impassioned interpretations of Argentine Tangos, past and present. Singer and percussionist Rachel Milloy will return to perform with both groups.

A cornerstone of the Twin Cities arts landscape, Red Eye’s New Works 4 Weeks Festival is an annual gathering for inter/anti/transdisciplinary performance. Each year, a cohort of ten artists develops new performance works that cross disciplines of dance, theater, and music, pushing artistic form and interrogating the contemporary world. The 2024 festival contains a throughline of futurisms, bringing together many lineages and approaches to imagine how we might be otherwise.
