AMPLIFIED – Summer Workshop for Pre/Professionals

Get back into our bodies and the studio with AMPLIFIED: AMP’s four-day summer workshop! Let’s move BIG, sweat, and explore mobility, length, momentum, and 3-D expansion, while amplifying our physical possibilities in a curious, uplifting, and enlivening environment. Led by AMP and special Guest Artists, Taja Will and Darrius Strong. For pre/professional movers. Come as you are!

Masks are required if participant is not fully vaccinated for COVID-19; optional for those fully vaccinated (subject to change).

All current CDC guidelines for COVID-19 will be adhered to. Precautions, policies, and requirements for participation in AMPLIFIED regarding COVID-19 are subject to change at any time and will be communicated via email/website/social media.

Young Dance Performing Company Introductory Workshop

Join Program Director, Chitra Vairavan, and Artistic Director, Anat Shinar, for a Company Introductory Workshop on August 11 from 5:00-6:00 p.m. We’ll dance, talk, and answer questions about the performing company. Ages 7-18. Free.

The Young Dance Company is a group of passionate dancers committed to exploring themselves and their world through dance.

Company members, ages 7-18, take weekly classes and rehearse on Saturdays, September through May. The company frames its annual season around a theme that immerses dancers in artistic inquiry and produces high quality, innovative performances. Dancers work with professional artists to investigate and collaborate on choreography relative to the selected theme. Their work is presented in venues throughout the year and in a season finale concert each spring.

Concerto Dance Summer Intensive

Concerto Dance Summer Intensive

The three-day intensive includes master classes in both modern and jazz along with company rep taught by company members Sara Karimi, Sarah Steichen Stiles, and Betsy G. Nelson along with Artistic Director Jolene Konkel. Classes are geared toward professional, pre-professional/college students, and advanced dancers ages 16 and up.

Katha Dance Theatre Summer Kathak Intensive

Katha Dance Theatre (KDT) has been teaching and performing Kathak, the North Indian classical dance form, for over three decades. Kathak is an elegant dance form characterized by rhythmic footwork, graceful hand gestures, pirouettes, lyrical movements, and storytelling. KDT is excited to be offering a two-week virtual Kathak intensive this August, to be co-taught by Kathak master Durga Arya-Krüger. Classes will be offered via Zoom on weekend mornings (taught by Ms. Arya-Krüger) and weekday evenings (taught by KDT instructors).

The intensive is open to anyone with two or more years of Kathak experience. Classes run from August 14-26 for the following groups:

Group A: Youth and adults with 2 or more years of Kathak experience.

Group B: Youth and adults with 4 or more years of Kathak experience.

Group C: Youth and adults with 5 or more years of Kathak experience. This includes intermediate students, interns, and KDT Company dancers.

Ballet Royale: Beauty and the Beast Inspired Creative Story Ballet Workshop

On Saturday, August 14, Ballet Royale is offering a Beauty and the Beast-inspired Creative Story Ballet Workshop! This is our final story ballet workshop for the summer, and it includes a short performance at the end.

Recommended for ages four through nine.

Informational Webinar about the McKnight Fellowship Intent to Apply

McKnight Fellowships for Dancers and for Choreographers will hold two webinars for all interested applicants.

This session, led by Program Director Dana Kassel, will be accessed through Zoom’s online meeting site. RSVP to mckfell@thecowlescenter.org, and you will be sent a link to enter the webinar by the internet browser on a computer or smartphone.

This information session will be geared towards first-time applicants and focus on frequently asked questions regarding the application materials, the artistic statement, resume, and work sample.  Participants will be able to ask questions via a chat feature or are encouraged to submit a question by email when you RSVP.

The deadline for Intent to Apply submissions is Wednesday, September 8, at midnight.

Young Dance Performing Company Community Service Project

FREE and open to those interested in or signed up for the Young Dance Performing Company for the 2021-22 school year. Join Chitra Vairavan, YD Program Director, and Anat Shinar, YD Artistic Director, in a team-building afternoon through service to our community. At Young Dance, we believe in being dedicated members of our communities and that service to others empowers us and those around us.

We will meet at Young Dance and then head to the neighboring parks to do some park clean-up and movement, as well.

Summer Dance Classes with Collide Theatrical

Ages sixteen and older.

Train with some of the Twin Cities top talents in theatrical jazz dance while taking your dance and performing skills to the next level. Our program is tailored to meet the individual goals and needs of EACH dancer. ALL ARE WELCOME. Classes take place at the Collide Studio in St. Paul.

Monday-Friday, 9:30am-3:30pm
Drop-in for the remainder of the intensive.
