Upcoming In-Person Feldenkrais Workshop: Re-Orienting Ourselves

Upcoming IN-PERSON Feldenkrais Workshop:
Re-Orienting Ourselves

Friday, July 8 from 10:00am-12:30pm
at Threads Dance Nexus

I’m excited to return to teaching live and in-person. To set this into motion, I will be hosting a Friday Feldenkrais workshop titled Re-Orienting Ourselves!

The last 2 years have taught us that we can impart knowledge very well online, but what sometimes feels missing is the social aspect that comes in a learning environment. Some people need this more than others. I have thought about what a re-entry into teaching in a studio would look like for a long time. How will we gather safely, with sensitivity, with inclusivity and respect for each other? Will people return? Will I remember how to teach in person? What words will be most useful?

We are all quite different now. Our attention spans and nervous systems have changed, but all of our brains have plasticity and we can form new habits yet again. We will lay on the floor together. We will orient ourselves to what it’s like to learn with others in the same room. We will get to know our feet in a novel way. We will turn things a little upside down in a playful way!

You can expect a thorough practice that will address all parts of your system.
Ground. Strengthen. Mobilize. Reorient. And reorganize.

I look forward to seeing some of you there! Beginners to Feldenkrais are welcome!

Music will play an essential role in the class as students will be asked to respond to sounds as well as make sounds themselves. This class will give children and caregivers the opportunity to learn more about themselves and one another through the art form of dance.

ARENA DANCES – Instinct Movement Intensive with Shane Larson

Join ARENA DANCES for one week of movement classes taught by guest artist Shane Larson, member of the renowned Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Dance Company. Participants will practice contemporary dance technique and learn a new original work as a part of this intensive. Targeted for the high-intermediate to advanced level dancer.

Instinct: August 15-20, 2022
Monday–Saturday, 10:00am-3:00pm
Class: 10:00-11:30am
Rehearsal of new work: 12:00-3:00pm
Culminating in an informal showing of the work on Saturday, August 20, with the possibility of a performance showing in line with the Happy Hour Artists in the 7th Annual CANDY BOX Dance Festival in April 2023 at The Southern Theater!

Ages 16+.
Intensive capped at 15 participants.
Registration must be completed by August 1.
Early Bird: $475 – register by July 15. General: $550.

During class, dancers will build a bottom to top, floor to standing modular class that deepens with task-based repetition, while encoding new movement pathways through basic shapes. Students are encouraged to learn-by-doing, rather than to learn and ‘perform’, relying on muscle memory to strengthen pathways. Architectural forms of the body are created, deconstructed, and recycled within the containers of momentum and temperature, offering a full-body, far-reaching experience of movement.

After class, dancers will focus on creating—using skills as scaffolding for building material as a community. We’ll spend time talking about memory and time, graphing separate experiences together to focus and distill common patterns, shapes, and anecdotes. The final object created will be an investigation that is distinctly your own and something that can be taken into future experiences.
