Daily Drop-In Classes at Hothouse

Open dance and fitness classes seven days a week! Class offerings include ballet, Arabic dance, contemporary, jazz, BollyX, hip hop, Zumba, heels, sessions, and more.

Hothouse is a multi-purpose studio space in Minneapolis featuring drop-in classes for teens and adults. Whether you’re already involved in the local arts scene, an aspiring dance professional looking to bolster your training, or just a human who loves to move, Hothouse offers classes that celebrate the bliss of movement and embrace you for who you are.

Come as you are, leave as more.

Hothouse Studio Rental – Northeast Minneapolis

Make Hothouse your home! Our space is available for hourly rentals to independent artists, freelance instructors, and companies. Like a community garden, filled with unique plots, the beauty of Hothouse is in the diversity of the people that fill our space.

Hothouse has expanded – choose from three brand new studios on the second floor of the Kennedy Building.

Rental prices vary based on the type of event, starting at just $16 per hour. Fill out the First Time Rental Request form at the bottom of this page to introduce yourself and book the space!

South Minneapolis Studio Available for Rent

The Sabathani Community Center in South Minneapolis has a dance studio available for hourly rental. The space includes mirrors, ballet barres, hardwood floor, and free parking.

Dimensions: 39′ x 23′ x 9′

Hourly rates:
Rehearsals and photo shoots — $15
Classes and auditions — $20

Available for rent:
Monday-Friday, 7:00am-9:00pm
Saturdays, 10:00am-4:00pm
Closed Sundays.

Dance Community Town Hall Follow-Up

Thank you all for sharing space and your voices together with a good portion of the Dance Community at the Town Hall. This update is compiled with the assistance of Ben Johnson, Jackie Hayes, Erinn Liebhard, and Tamara Nadel.

The time is now that we continue to build upon the strength of this gathering to make real change happen and have tangible action steps for the city to hear our voices and find essential ways to move forward. All updates will be posted on the Community Exchange tab on DanceMN.

As shared by Karen Charles, the Minnesota Artists Coalition will host a conversation; an intersectional healthy arts and eco-system check-in, and critical conversations around pressing issues facing the arts community, including The Cowles Center’s Closing Letter and the Minneapolis Parks Music in the Parks Letter about not paying musicians to play in the parks.

While acknowledging that multiple conversations, gatherings, and actions are valid, this space seeks to center ideas, concerns, and strategies of marginalized voices while engaging a full conversation to broaden the discussion across artistic disciplines and socio-economic and cultural perspectives. Artists are called to attend in solidarity.

The Arena – Space for Rent

Located in the heart of the Lyn-Lake community, The Arena is available for your rehearsal, class, and event needs!

Our space offers:
1,305 square feet (30×40) of sprung, Marley dance flooring
Wall-length mirrors with curtains for covering if preferred
Changing room
Access to multiple bus lines, including the 21, 4, 23, 612, and 18

Hourly rates range from $17-$25, with discounts/special offerings available to BIPOC and LGBTQIA2+ communities. Inquire for savings.

Studio Stories: Reminiscing on Twin Cities Dance with Joe Chvala

Joe is a director, choreographer, writer, composer, performer, teacher, founder of the percussive dance/theater group Flying Foot Forum, and a 2023 McKnight Choreographer’s Fellow.
