Skylar Brandt and Daniil Simkin Perform Giselle

A once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to see world-renowned ballet luminaries, Daniil Simkin (Principal ABT and Staatsballett Berlin) and Skylar Brandt (Principal ABT), perform live together in what is considered the most romantic ballet of all time, Giselle.

Giselle is perfect in design and narrative, telling the story of a young peasant girl whose heart is broken when she learns that the man she loves is really a prince betrothed to marry another. Giselle tells a sweeping tale of passion that transcends life and death. The full-length romantic ballet will be performed at Northrop, University of Minnesota.

Metropolitan Ballet celebrates 25 years of uniting the Twin Cities communities of dance, music, and theater in staging high-impact works in the performing art of dance. Founder and Artistic Director Erik J Sanborn has chosen to produce Giselle, the most sacred ballet starring two greatly admired artists, Simkin and Brandt, as a deep expression of gratitude to the community of artists and patrons for their support over these 25 years.

TU Dance: THREAT by Yusha-Marie Sorzano

TU Dance is one of four dance companies participating in the pilot program The O’Shaughnessy Dance Cohort. THREAT is an evening-length work choreographed by TU Dance Guest Artist Yusha-Marie Sorzano.

THREAT is a concert dance theater work that aims to provoke an interrogation of the roles we play as individuals and communities in hierarchies. The work posits that hierarchies have the power to control our behavior and infiltrate our thoughts, even when no authority is present to enforce the rules. Using a physical language and soundscape that fuses multicultural traditions and styles of the West and the African Diaspora, this social exploration invites audiences into a modern narrative that speaks to the universal experience of authority, obedience, and rebellion.
