JSB’s InProcess: Movement Workshop Series

December 18-21
11:30am-2:00pm
Join for one, two, three, or all four days!
Discounts apply for multiple days.

James Sewell Ballet hosts a movement workshop series geared toward adult dancers (18+) with intermediate/advanced technique who are:

  • interested in “trying out” the movement vocabulary of various dance-makers
  • committing to their movement practice ahead of a holiday break, and
  • looking for a friendly creative environment without commitment to a long-term project.

Move with emerging leaders in the Twin Cities contemporary dance scene.
Featuring Javan Mngrezzo, Berit Ahlgren, Jarod Boltjes, and Elayna Waxse.

The goal of this series is pure process. The leaders get to see ideas actualized on movers in the room, and movers get to experience a single-day choreographic workshop with each leader.

Two x Two

A collaboration of live music and dance, artists inspiring one another, exploring movement through sound and sound through movement.

Kid Villain (Alex Proctor) pairs with three passionate dancers from HoneyWorks led by Berit Ahlgren, and breathtaking musician Aby Wolf pairs with the commanding force of tap dancer Kaleena Miller.

Collaborations that each premiered earlier in 2023 now come together to be redefined and reinvestigated in a shared space.

Friday, December 22
7:00pm
Tickets $30-$40

Threads NexGen/YDP Seeks Spring Session Instructors

Threads NexGen/YDP (Youth Dance Project) is looking to hire instructors to teach ballet and modern technique classes for upcoming 12-week spring sessions. We seek skilled dance instructors to augment weekly intensive programming that also includes nutrition and embodied movement exploration at Threads Dance Nexus.

NexGen/YDP uses a holistic approach to training future dance artists. The program enables youth to enhance technical skills, explore creativity, and manage stress and trauma in a safe, supportive environment. Students receive high-level training and education from professionals in ballet technique, modern dance technique, embodied movement exploration, and nutrition. We strive to create an equitable and inclusive learning environment where students’ gifts are cultivated and growth opportunities embraced. We seek for diverse learners to be treated with dignity and respect.

NexGen YDP Spring Session: January 22-April 20, 2024
Beginning/Intermediate levels, ages 8-14.
Dates and times TBD, based on availability.

Our Teaching Philosophy
Culturally Relevant — so that dancers of any race or ethnicity feel a sense of belonging.
Trauma-Informed – dance education has the potential to reproduce harm or liberate; we chose liberation!
Anatomically Sound – working safely with the body to keep you dancing longer and stronger.
Inclusive and Equitable – all are welcome and differing needs are acknowledged.
Socially Just – seek to rectify injustice through arts activism.

Candidates must have extensive experience in ballet and/or modern, strong communication skills, experience working with children, and provide informative, engaging, and effective movement instruction reflecting the Dance Nexus philosophy.

Instructors compensated for class hours at a rate of $40/hour. Instructors are welcome to attend Threads Company Class on Mondays or Tuesdays from 9:00-10:30am, as well as rent the studio at a discounted staff rate.

For more information and to apply, please email an introduction and your resume to Angela Ericson at aericson@threadsdance.org.

TU Dance Center: Dancing Together Workshop

The Dancing Together Workshop is a child and parent/caregiver Creative Movement class. This 8-week workshop is designed for children (ages 2-4) and their parent/caregiver who is interested in a shared movement experience that engages the senses of curiosity and play.

Both child and caregiver will participate in developmentally appropriate movement exercises that incorporate elements such as effort, shape, and tempo. Music will play an essential role in the class as students will be asked to respond to sounds as well as make sounds themselves. Participants will be encouraged to join at their own comfort level with the understanding that observation is often the best form of learning with younger children. This class will give children and caregivers the opportunity to learn more about themselves and one another through the art form of dance.

Session 2: January 20-February 24
Session 3: March 16-May 4; No class on April 6 and 13.

Saturdays, 9:00-9:45am
