Contempo Physical Dance Audition

Contempo Physical Dance holds audition – seeking professional dancers for our fourth choreography residency!

This residency features commissioned work by Jaruam Xavier. Jaruam is a former dancer with Bale da Cidade de Sao Paulo in Brazil. As a choreographer, he has delved into the exploration of Anthropophagic Body Formation, a metaphor he employs to illustrate the assimilation of knowledge through the embodiment of dance and cultural hybridity. His works bear the influence of Candomblé, Capoeira, and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, evident in their distinctive traits.

An audition class will be taught by Marciano Silva dos Santos while Jaruam observes remotely. In addition to the audition class, each dancer should prepare a solo up to one minute in length that highlights their strengths as a dancer.

TU Dance Center: Dancing Together Workshop

A child and parent/caregiver Creative Movement class. This 8-week workshop is designed for children (ages 2-4) and their parent/caregiver who are interested in a shared movement experience that engages the senses of curiosity and play. Both child and caregiver will participate in developmentally appropriate movement exercises that incorporate elements such as effort, shape, and tempo. Music will play an essential role in the class as students will be asked to respond to sounds as well as make sounds themselves. Participants will be encouraged to join at their own comfort level with the understanding that observation is often the best form of learning with younger children. This class will give children and caregivers the opportunity to learn more about themselves and one another through the art form of dance.

Fall Sound Garden at Wargo Nature Center

Amidst the fall colors and falling leaves, dancers Sarah Baumert, Suzette Gilreath, Erika Hansen, and Leslie O’Neill perform in the site-specific Fall Sound Garden performance installation along the wooded trails at Wargo Nature Center in Lino Lakes, MN; nestled along the Rice Creek chain of lakes, not far upstream from where the Fall Sound Garden first premiered in 2018 at Manomin Park.

This year’s Fall Sound Garden is part of Wargo’s annual Fall Fest, which also features a cider press, storybook trail, Dakota language scavenger hunt, and fall games.  Directed by composer JG Everest, the Fall Sound Garden will also feature embedded sculpture and poetry throughout the site, with live storytelling by poet/storyteller Lisa Yankton, and live roving musical accompaniment by members of the Free Range Orchestra and Choir.
