The Walker’s annual dance showcase celebrates Minnesota’s vibrant and diverse dance community with powerful performances by a roster of local choreographers and movement artists. This year’s program is curated by dancer, choreographer, and 2021 McKnight Fellow Darrius Strong, whose own work fuses ballet, hip hop, and more to tell universal stories.

Young Dance Hiring Receptionists

Young Dance is hiring receptionists for our 2023-24 Session! 

We are looking for dance-oriented, welcoming folks to help us create a safe, collaborative atmosphere in our space. We are specifically seeking individuals able and willing to commit to a weekly shift during our next session, beginning Thursday, September 14, and ending Monday, May 13. Each shift is four hours, weekday evenings plus one Saturday morning shift. Please email jules@youngdance.org for more details on pay, scheduling, and training. Thank you!

Rent the Young Dance Studios

Young Dance has two large studios available for rent in the Midway neighborhood of Saint Paul. Easily accessible by the Green Line light rail, the 16 and 67 Bus Lines, and ample parking in the Fairview Business Center parking lot. The space is fully ADA accessible, with ramps to the sprung studio floor and automatic door openers.

Rentals are currently available:
Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday, 8:00am-4:00pm
Tuesday, 11:00am-4:00pm
Friday, 11:00am-4:00pm and 6:30-9:00pm
Saturday, 3:00–9:00pm
Sunday, 8:00am-9:00pm

The studios are newly equipped with sprung Harlequin Marley flooring, a Bluetooth speaker system, and wifi. A projector with AV adapters is available by request. Studio 2 has ballet barres and a mirror. The studio has a clear COVID safety plan, including regular disinfecting of all floors and surfaces and a new HVAC system that refreshes the air 7-8 times per hour.

Young Dance Announces the 2023-24 Session

The 2023-24 Session includes Afro-Modern, All Abilities Dancing, Ballet, Breaking, Creative Movement, Choreography, Dance Together, Hip Hop, Modern, Musical Theater, and the Young Dance Performing Company. Introducing Musical Theater, Adult/Teen Somatics, Yoga, and Adult Modern for the 2023-24 session!

Classes begin Thursday, September 14, and continue through Sunday, May 19, 2024. The final weekend of the session includes a performance opportunity.

Ragamala Training Center: Class Registration Open

Bharatanatyam Classes at the Ragamala Training Center
Registration for the 2023-24 Ragamala’s Training Center is now open for all ages 7 and up.

Ragamala Dance Company/Training Center is internationally recognized for its lineage, rigor, and creativity. At the Ragamala Training Center, students receive classical training in the style of Bharatanatyam carefully created by the internationally renowned Padma Bhushan Smt. Alarmél Valli. Artistic Directors Ranee Ramaswamy and Aparna Ramaswamy are dedicated to preserving and carrying on their guru’s tradition and passing it on to the next generation of dancers. Classes run from September 2023-May 2024.

Erin Thompson Teaches Advanced Contemporary Classes in Person and on Zoom

Erin’s advanced-level contemporary dance class at Zenon Dance School includes floor work, standing warm-ups, and phrase work, all designed to enhance the healthy use of joints and muscle groups as dancers release their weight fully into the support of the ground. Experiential awareness, body mapping, improvisation, and creative work are included as dancers channel their own expressive artistry within the movement. The incredible Dean Magraw will accompany on guitar.

Modern Dance Class with Thern at Tapestry

Dancing and finding pleasure in movement is for everyone of any age! I’ve taught dance for all ages and experience levels for over fifty years.

My new weekly session of modern dance classes starts Monday, September 11. We’ll be working with somatic movement, structured improvisation, and floor work to build strength, flexibility, and ease of movement. You’ll learn patterns that move through space in community with other dancers, encouraging spatial and group awareness.

TU Dance Center: 2023-2024 Children and Teen Program

The TU Dance Center Children and Teen Program introduces the joy of creative movement and beginning dance technique. Classes, divided by age, provide a comprehensive base on which to expand by developing body awareness, coordination, balance, flexibility, strength, and musicality.
