The Arena – Drop-in Moving Practice with Alexandra Bodnarchuk

Moving Practice is a weekly class series for professional dancers. Classes prioritize rigor, diversity of contemporary aesthetics, variety of class content, and commitment.

Alexandra Bodnarchuk teaches Moving Practice in September.
Tuesdays, 10:00-11:30am

Professional-level dancers of all styles are welcome.
Pre-registration and payment beforehand are encouraged.
Suggested price of $17 per class. Pay-as-able option on all classes – we would rather you join us than not be able to attend due to financial limitations.

Class will begin with a full-bodied warmup to get all the big and small joints moving before progressing to across-the-floor movement patterns derived from Balkan footwork. Articulation, partnering, and walking patterns will be explored. Participants will also learn phrase work from Bodnarchuk’s 2023 work Rock, Paper, Scissors.

Alexandra is a Carpatho-Rusyn American choreographer based in Minneapolis, MN who makes works for the stage and screen. She is a 2022 and 2020 Jerome Hill Artist Fellow Finalist (Jerome Foundation) and a 2021 Ann and Weston Hicks Choreography Fellow at Jacob’s Pillow. She has studied in Western, Central, and Eastern European, Balkan, and Ghanaian folk dance traditions. Her most recent work, the evening-length duet Rock, Paper, Scissors, was presented at The Southern Theater in March 2023. Mentors for this process were Abby Zbikowiski (Abby Z and the New Utility), and Andrea Miller (Gallim Dance).

As we look to shape programming, it’s important that we have input from our community. The Cowles Center is looking for additional advisory committee representatives to provide insights, guidance, and feedback to our programming which includes curated seasons in the Goodale and TEK BOX, community engagement initiatives for artists, and education programs for youth to adult learners.

We will be intentional in garnering the participation of BIPOC individuals, LGBTQIA2+ representatives, and people with disabilities. Ideal candidates may include but are not limited to artistic directors, independent artists, dancers, patrons, educators, and community advocates.

Application closes September 27. New members will be invited to begin October 2023. Click here to learn more about the Programs and Education Advisory Committee.

Collide Theatrical Dance Company’s Tenth Anniversary Season will feature an exciting lineup of innovative dance theater.

he 2023/2024 season opens in September with The Great Gatsby. Originally produced by Collide in 2018, the company will present an updated version this year. Re-imagined through a modern lens, this timely tale explores the dark underbelly of the American dream, a story no less poignant a century later.

In February 2024, Collide will stage the world premiere of Hollywood, which tells the compelling and hopeful story of a Hollywood starlet and a political eco-activist struggling for survival in a climate-ravaged near-future California.

The final show in Collide’s 10th season will be a high-energy cabaret in which Collide dancers will take you on a journey through the history of Broadway’s most famous dance musicals. Broadway Dancin’ will feature numbers from some of your favorite Broadway hits, including Chicago, Cabaret, A Chorus Line, and more!

Collide will also bring back its hit production of Wonderland and tour the mental health–themed production to middle and high schools throughout Minnesota.

On Saturday, December 2, 2023, Collide will celebrate its Tenth Anniversary with a fundraising gala. The evening will feature silent and live auctions, cocktails, and heavy appetizers, and will culminate with a performance highlighting favorite dance excerpts from the past decade.

Season subscriptions are available for purchase now, as are tickets for individual shows.
