Erin Thompson Teaches Advanced Contemporary Classes in Person and on Zoom

Erin’s advanced-level contemporary hybrid class through Zenon Dance School includes floor work, standing warm-ups, and phrase work, all designed to enhance the healthy use of joints and muscle groups as dancers release their weight fully into the support of the ground. Experiential awareness, body mapping, improvisation, and creative work are included as dancers channel their own expressive artistry within the movement. The delightful Dean Magraw will accompany on guitar.

Thursday mornings, 9:30-11:00am

Registration is open through Zenon’s MindBody portal and closes ten minutes before class.

July 11-25

Professional-level dancers of all styles are welcome.

During her time at UGA, Nieya became a founding company member of both CADE:NCE and Linds&Co where she had the opportunity to perform nationally and internationally. Currently, Nieya is performing with Threads Dance Project and Rhythmically Speaking Dance. She has also worked with Alexandra Bodnarchuk Dance Projects, Yuki Tokuda, Off Leash Area, and Concerto Dance. In addition to performing, Nieya is an independent choreographer who recently created contemporary works for Ballet Co.Laboratory, the Blackness Is… arts festival produced by the Guthrie Theater, Threads Dance Project, and Alternative Motion Project. TU Dance: THREAT by Yusha-Marie Sorzano Premieres April 2024

TU Dance is one of four dance companies participating in the pilot program: The O’Shaughnessy Dance Cohort. THREAT is an evening-length work choreographed by TU Dance Guest Artist Yusha-Marie Sorzano.

THREAT is a concert dance theater work that aims to provoke an interrogation of the roles we play as individuals and community in hierarchies. The work posits that hierarchies have the power to control our behavior and infiltrate our thoughts, even when no authority is present to enforce the rules. Using a physical language and soundscape that fuses multicultural traditions and styles of the West and the African Diaspora, this social exploration invites audiences into a modern narrative that speaks to the universal experience of authority, obedience, and rebellion.
