Discover Dance Series at Bloomington Center for the Arts

The Bloomington Center for the Arts presents the Discover Dance Series: June 15-17

A weekend festival featuring performances by multiple local dance companies representing a wide range of styles for an all-ages audience to discover and experience the joy and power of the art of dance!

Three evening performances featuring dances by Alternative Motion Project (Modern), Concerto Dance (Jazz), Continental Ballet Company (Ballet) and Rhythm Street Movement (Tap). Each evening will feature the same program.

June 15-17, 2023
Thursday–Saturday at 7:00pm
Tickets: $25 ages 12 and up; $15 ages 11-6; free for ages 5 and under.

Master classes will be offered by each company at the BCA Saturday, June 17 between 1:00-3:30pm. Classes are free with a ticket to the performance or $10. Participants can choose up to 2 classes, with options in an open level format or master classes geared for more experienced dancers. Classes are open to participants ages 12 through adult. Register online or at the drop in table. Participants under 18 need a guardian-signed waiver found online or at the event.

TU Dance Center: Children and Teen Summer Programming

The TU Dance Center Children and Teen Program introduces the joy of creative movement and beginning dance technique. Classes, divided by age, provide a comprehensive base on which to expand by developing body awareness, coordination, balance, flexibility, strength, and musicality. Creative Movement: June 26-30
A 1-week program for children ages 5-8 where students will experience the connection between movement and creativity.

Introduction to Dance: July 11-20
A 2-week program for ages 9-12 welcomes beginners and introduces various techniques and concepts of dance to offer young movers the chance to experience a variety of ways to approach movement.

Bridge Level: July 10-22
A 2-week program for students ages 10-14 preparing for a deeper engagement in dance that includes introductory dance technique classes with a focus on the creative process.

Teen Level: July 10-22
This 2-week program is entry-level for students typically aged 14-19 that will focus on the techniques of Modern, Ballet, Hip Hop, and African Dance. Students will learn basic fundamentals of dance technique along with exploring their individual artistic expression.

TU Dance Center: Pre-Professional Summer Intensive

The TU Dance Pre-Professional Program is an intensive course of study integrating modern, ballet, African dance, and creative workshops for students ages 11-24. The TU Dance Summer Intensive builds a strong technique while exploring individual artistry.

Adult Summer Workshop at Ballet Co.Laboratory

This workshop is a three-week session with classes and rehearsal three times a week for adults and teens that want to dive into their training. This workshop includes ballet technique, pointe, variations, corps repertoire and contemporary ballet. This class is geared towards dancers who have been studying ballet for at least two years. Repertoire can be learned in flat shoes or pointe shoes.

Zenon Dance School – Camp Zenon

Discover dance with a week-long sampler camp for young artists! Not sure if your dancer has a style they like best, or looking for a way to try out something new? We’ll explore a variety of dance styles and creative movements in this one-week camp.

Session 1 (Age 4-6): July 17-21, 9:00am-12:00pm
Session 2 (Age 7-10): July 17-21, 12:30-3:30pm

Concerto Dance Summer Intensive

Concerto Dance is excited to announce registration is now open for our third annual summer intensive! Open to advanced, pre-professional and professional dancers ages 16 and up, the intensive includes classes in Jazz and Modern dance technique along with company repertoire. Concerto Dance Company auditions will take place August 4 following the intensive from 3:00-5:30pm.

Erin Thompson Teaches Advanced Contemporary Classes in Person and on Zoom

Erin’s advanced-level contemporary hybrid class through Zenon Dance School includes floor work, standing warm-ups, and phrase work, all designed to enhance the healthy use of joints and muscle groups as dancers release their weight fully into the support of the ground. Experiential awareness, body mapping, improvisation, and creative work are included as dancers channel their own expressive artistry within the movement. The delightful Dean Magraw will accompany on guitar.

Thursday mornings, 9:30-11:00am

Modern Dance Class with Thern Anderson at Tapestry

Anyone can dance and find pleasure in movement!

Thern Anderson’s modern dance class at Tapestry Folkdance Center will focus on body awareness, rhythm, movement patterns through space, and ensemble dancing. Improvisation will give dancers the opportunity to explore their own movement creativity and its relation to others. Floor work using somatic principles will build strength, ease, and flexibility. All ages are welcome!

Contact Improvisation Jam

We meet every single Monday (holidays included) at The Center for Performing Arts in room 105w. Entrance through the new wing on 38th Street.

6:30pm: Opening circle, short guided warm-up/exercise followed by an open jam
8:30pm: Closing circle
8:45pm: Entire jam wraps up

First-time dancers need to sign our liability waiver. We have that waiver available when you first walk into the dance room. The jam is donation-based.

Zenon Dance School – Spring Xchange Program/Work-Study

We are looking for volunteers to be a part of our Xchange Program for the current Spring Session!

Xchange is Zenon’s work-study program that allows students to volunteer in exchange for dance class credit.

The Spring Session will run from March 27-June 4, 2023, with no classes May 27-29.

Online shift = one class credit
In-person shift = two class credits
