The Arena – Drop-In Moving Practice with Joanna Lees

Moving Practice is a weekly class series for professional dancers. Classes prioritize rigor, diversity of contemporary aesthetics, variety of class content, and commitment.

Joanna Lees teaches Moving Practice in March and Sean Scantlebury joins us for all of April.

Tuesdays, 10:00-11:30am

Professional-level dancers of all styles are welcome. Registration and payment beforehand encouraged.
Pre-register here.

Suggested $17 per class; however, there is a pay-as-able option on all classes – we would rather you join us than not be able to attend due to financial limitations.

Move big, sweat, and play in an energizing atmosphere supported by pop hits in this Contemporary Movement Practice. Participants will build awareness and explore expansive possibilities within their own individuality and identities. Through improvised and structured movement vocabulary, participants will be encouraged to research freedom, 3-D expansion, mobility, rigor, presence, agency in choice-making, and empowerment with each individual’s own unique body.

Dancer Advocacy Resource

Dance Artists’ National Collective (DANC) is a united group of dancers advocating for safe, equitable, and sustainable working conditions for dancers in the U.S., especially those who are most impacted by systems of oppression. DANC works to empower dancers, who are often underpaid, mistreated, manipulated, and misclassified, by engaging in research, sharing resources, educating members, organizing for collective action, and championing labor standards.
