Collide Theatrical Apprentice Program

2023/2024 Apprentice Program running September 2023–May 2024.

Collide Theatrical’s Apprentice Program provides the skills needed to pursue formal positions within the Collide company and in the world of theater dance.

Selected Apprentice dancers will take daily technique class with the Company, have an opportunity to perform in a Collide show, and participate in an Apprentice showcase at the end of the year.

The daily technical classes include a variety of styles, rooted in ballet and jazz, but also including tap, acting for dance, and hip-hop. Apprentice dancers will also have an opportunity to participate in quarterly master classes with Broadway touring dance captains and industry professionals.

This is a tuition-based program. Scholarships are available for underrepresented artists.

Enrollment is competitive and audition based. Video submissions accepted.

TU Dance Center is seeking accompanists for Modern, Ballet, and African Dance classes!

Preferred times:
Mornings, 9:30-11:00am
Evenings, 4:30-9:00pm (any hours within timeframe)

Rate: $24/hour

James Sewell Ballet Audition Notice

James Sewell Ballet (JSB) is seeking dancers for both project and full contract work in the 2023/24 season.

JSB currently consists of six dancers willing to challenge their physical limits, perform a range of emotions, and play with the boundaries of ballet. The company rehearses in Minneapolis, MN, and performs three full programs a year, in addition to other outreach and touring engagements. Choreographic and teaching opportunities regularly exist throughout the season.

Dancers well suited for this job will:

  • Have excellent ballet technique and contemporary movement.
  • Have strong improvisational skills, or minimally an eagerness to learn.
  • Have good partnering knowledge and ability, including sustained overhead lifts for men and ability to weight-share for all.
  • Enjoy teaching opportunities that include company classes and outreach with all ages.
  • Be enthusiastic about actively participating in the creative process.
  • Bring individual competitiveness and interest in growing as an artist, and excitement to be a part of a small, cooperative team.

JSB offers 26-30 week competitive contracts. Starting salary is no less than $700 per week for a full-contract position. The mission of James Sewell Ballet is to transform dance, artists, and audiences through rich collaboration, education, and equitable opportunities.

Concerto Dance Presents Looking Back/Moving Forward This Weekend

Concerto Dance presents Looking Back/Moving Forward at the Southern Theater this weekend!

Join us March 10-12  for 3 shows only.

Looking Back/Moving Forward features a mixed repertoire of modern and jazz dance works by Artistic Director Jolene Konkel, including audience favorite Ode to Opus Jazz, along with two premieres choreographed by visiting guest artists – Steve Rooks (formerly of the Martha Graham Company, NYC) and Cynthia Gutierrez Garner (Artistic Director of Company Movimiento, Eugene, OR).

The program features a diverse body of work ranging from contemplative to comedy, swing to Vivaldi, ala’ Graham to vernacular. Join us for an evening of vibrant concert dance as we perform work that reflects on the past and looks ahead with hopeful expectation… moving forward together!

Featuring Concerto Dance Company Members: Rachel Bonkoungou, Lydia Kantor, Sara Karimi, Helena Magalhães, Shannon Mulcahy, Betsy G. Calling mischief-makers of all ages! Ballet Co.Laboratory invites you to venture where the Where the Wild Things Are for Ballet Co.Laboratory’s interpretation of the colorful children’s tale by Maurice Sendak. Join upper-level students of The School of Ballet Co.Laboratory as they set out to find freedom in imagination and the resilience of the human spirit.

Andy Mor and CABARAVE: Glass Ceiling

Andy Mor and CABARAVE break the rules in their new, dynamic experience you can’t get anywhere else!

Featuring aerialists, fire performers, performance painting, live music, pole, and dance – tap and hip hop to African and jazz.

The ominous glass ceiling (suspended above the stage) is a reminder, not only of where we are, but what is yet to come. Throughout the night, the audience will participate in the spectacle, and watch as the glass ceiling moves in closer and closer. The only question is, When the glass ceiling is in reach, will you have the strength to break through?

EMBRACE with the Ahn Trio

James Sewell Ballet reunites with the extraordinary Ahn Trio in a program featuring a reimagining of 2018’s Connections. Like the best embrace, there’s known comfort and new spark combined. The three sisters of the Ahn Trio – Lucia on piano, Angella on violin, and Maria on cello – were born in Seoul, Korea, and educated at the Juilliard School in New York City. These growing-up experiences in two cultures, along with their extensive international touring, infuse their celebration of 21st-century classical music with a particular flare and style.

Alexandra Bodnarchuk Presents Rock, Paper, Scissors

Alexandra Bodnarchuk presents Rock, Paper, Scissors (RPS), an evening length contemporary dance duet. RPS explores the generational passing down of rules and customs of our bodies. What traditions do we choose to pass down? Which rules will we break?

Situated on a set comprised of a floor and two opposing walls, Alexandra uses text, play, and contemporary phrase work to draw inspiration from her heritage and create a surreal playground of problem solving.

This work features dancers Nieya Amezquita and Sarah McCullough, sound design by Brandon Anderson Musser, with directoral and dramaturgical support by Marcela Michelle.

Each performance will be followed by a discussion with Alexandra and a guest speaker:

March 18 – Leila Awadallah, choreographer and founder of the Body Watani dance project
March 19 – Emily Gastineau, choreographer and co-artistic director of Red Eye Theater

This work has been supported in part by the Ann & Weston Hicks Choreography Fellowship at Jacob’s Pillow under the direction of Dianne McIntyre and Risa Steinberg, and mentorship of Andrea Miller and Abby Zbikowski.

Collide Theatrical Presents SKOL!

Collide Theatrical Dance Company presents its first dance musical with an original score—

SKOL! plays at the Southern Theater March 23–April 9, 2023.

When a mysterious illness befalls a Viking clan, a young woman is called to fulfill her destiny as a great warrior leader in a battle for the cure with the Christian army. Inspired by the Norse gods, her journey tests the boundaries of her faith, shakes the ground of the relationships with the men dearest in her life, and causes her to question the definition of female strength.

Inspired by recent evidence of the grave of a female Viking holding the accoutrements and injury marks of a prestigious warrior, a discovery that cast a new light on gender roles in Scandinavian history. Collide explores this fascinating story with an original pop rock/rap score composed by Twin Cities musician Mike Michel (The Orange Goodness), with lyrics by vocalists Rush Benson (Ordway) and Katie Gearty (Dakota Jazz Club).

Created by Collide Artistic Director, Regina Peluso, the production stars Renee Guittar and Jarod Boltjes.
