Andy Mor and CABARAVE break the rules in their new, dynamic experience you can’t get anywhere else!

Featuring aerialists, fire performers, performance painting, live music, pole, and dance – tap and hip hop to African and jazz.

The ominous glass ceiling (suspended above the stage) is a reminder, not only of where we are, but what is yet to come. Throughout the night, the audience will participate in the spectacle, and watch as the glass ceiling moves in closer and closer. The only question is, When the glass ceiling is in reach, will you have the strength to break through?

EMBRACE with the Ahn Trio

James Sewell Ballet reunites with the extraordinary Ahn Trio in a program featuring a reimagining of 2018’s Connections. Like the best embrace, there’s known comfort and new spark combined. The three sisters of the Ahn Trio – Lucia on piano, Angella on violin, and Maria on cello – were born in Seoul, Korea, and educated at the Juilliard School in New York City. These growing-up experiences in two cultures, along with their extensive international touring, infuse their celebration of 21st-century classical music with a particular flare and style.

Collide Theatrical Presents SKOL!

Collide Theatrical Dance Company presents its first dance musical with an original score:

SKOL! plays at the Southern Theater March 23–April 9, 2023.

When a mysterious illness befalls a Viking clan, a young woman is called to fulfill her destiny as a great warrior leader in a battle for the cure with the Christian army. Inspired by the Norse gods, her journey tests the boundaries of her faith, shakes the ground of the relationships with the men dearest in her life, and causes her to question the definition of female strength.

Inspired by recent evidence of the grave of a female Viking holding the accoutrements and injury marks of a prestigious warrior, a discovery that cast a new light on gender roles in Scandinavian history. Collide explores this fascinating story with an original pop rock/rap score composed by Twin Cities musician Mike Michel (The Orange Goodness), with lyrics by vocalists Rush Benson (Ordway) and Katie Gearty (Dakota Jazz Club).

The Joffrey Ballet

The Joffrey Ballet returns to Northrop with a dynamic program of three works: Serenade – the first ballet George Balanchine created in America in 1934; an electric “sneaker ballet” from Tony Award winner Justin Peck; and the Northrop Centennial Commission Of Mice and Men adapted by choreographer Cathy Marston. This new take on John Steinbeck’s tender tale of friendship, perseverance, and sacrifice features an original score by 14-time Academy Award nominee, Thomas Newman (The Shawshank Redemption, Skyfall, Finding Nemo), played live by Northrop’s Ballet Orchestra.

Kitchen Dances

Kitchen Dances is a dancing history exploring how women’s power of choice and agency over their own lives have evolved throughout various time periods and cultures. Witness the metamorphosis of the heart of the home from a place of duty to an experimental playground of possibilities. Dance styles featured in this production include contemporary ballet, flamenco, and modern as the Company of Ballet Co.Laboratory performs in collaboration with guest dance artists from around the Twin Cities.

Black Label Movement Presents WRECK

The 15th anniversary of Flink’s masterwork Wreck — set inside the last watertight compartment of a recently sunk ore boat resting at the bottom of Lake Superior. Wreck explores the depths of physical and psychological endurance and human fortitude in the face of impending and inevitable destruction. The performances include a live ensemble playing Mary Ellen Childs’s stunning original soundscape.

The 3-Women Project by TU Dance

The 3-Women Project will feature choreographic works from a group of three internationally renowned black female artists who will each work individually within their own creative processes while simultaneously seeking to explore and discover synergistic and unifying themes throughout the process. The project will incorporate educational opportunities and culminate in live, in-person performances in May, 2023. The choreographers include Stephanie Batten Bland, Alanna Morris, and Yusha-Marie Sorzano. TU Dance seeks to create artistic space for these three dynamic and award-winning dance artists to share their distinctly strong voices in choreographic work and their deep investment and investigations into their own artistic practice and identity as black women. TU Dance looks forward to engaging with our community to share and celebrate the perspectives of these three women through this exciting and ambitious project.

Summer Placement Class for BCL

Ballet Co.Laboratory is holding summer placement classes on February 17 to help students determine which intensive program is the best fit for them.

Friday, February 17
5:00-7:00pm
at the BCL studio

Two classes will be offered during this time: ages 10-14 and ages 15-22.

It is free to attend, and students will receive their placement in approximately a week.

Winter Dance Experience Workshops at Young Dance this Monday

Join us on Monday, February 20, for a day of classes featuring a variety of fun styles! Spend your day off from school exploring new styles of dance with your friends! Classes include Family Dance, Creative Movement, plus a full-day or half-day Variety Camp.

Family Dance
Join us for a morning of dancing together. Children and caregivers will get a special start to their day, exploring movement and stories in a fun environment. Taught by family dance extraordinaire Julia Davidson.

Creative Movement
Your little one can explore the possibilities of movement with a focus on storytelling. From a personal experience to the depths of their imaginations, children will spend time expressing the stories that reside in their bodies and minds. Send your dancers to us for the whole day, or just the afternoon! In this camp, dancers will experience a variety of styles.
