In-person FELDENKRAIS Awareness Through Movement® classes with Krista Langberg and Jeffrey Wells

Ongoing beginning February 3:
Monday evenings, 6:00-7:00pm
Friday mornings, 9:00-10:00am

Drop in any time to our ongoing Monday evening and Friday morning classes at East Lake Aikido in the Longfellow neighborhood in Minneapolis. With Krista Langberg or Jeffrey Wells, alternating weeks.
$10-25, sliding scale per class.

These classes are meant for anyone who is interested in deepening their self-awareness and possibilities of action, regardless of previous experience in the Feldenkrais Method. The space will be open 10 minutes before class begins. Please arrive 5-10 minutes early, especially if you are new to class, to sign in and familiarize yourself with the space. Wear comfortable clothes that are easy to move in – having a long-sleeve layer is helpful to adjust to temperature shifts. We provide blankets to practice on and any props needed for specific lessons.

New Creative Movement Classes Plus More at Young Dance

Since 1987, Young Dance has encouraged youth in our community to build body and spirit through dance. Our mission is to transform lives through movement. We are an inclusive community where creativity flourishes, encouraging personal and artistic excellence through diverse dance forms.

Classes are already running and many are at capacity!

Afro-Modern: Wednesdays, 7:00–8:30pm for ages 10-18
Ballet 2: Tuesdays, 6:30–8:30pm for ages 10-18
Modern 3: Thursdays, 6:45–8:30pm for ages 11-14

There is still room for students in Afro-Modern. Taught by Aneka McMullen, Afro-Modern is a contemporary class where dancers explore full-body expression rooted in West African, Caribbean, and American dance traditions.

Ballet 2 is taught by Hannah Pierce. Young Dance teaches ballet skills from a body-positive lens that builds terminology, coordination, flexibility, and rhythm.

Finally, Modern 3 is a contemporary dance exploration of Space, Time, Body, Effort, Movement, and Form. This class is taught by Blake Nellis

Creative Movement 1:  Fridays, 10:00–10:45am for ages 3-5
Creative Movement 2: Wednesdays, 4:30–5:15pm for ages 5-7

Classes began Monday, January 2, and continue through Sunday, May 21, 2023.

The final weekend of the session culminates in performances at the Luminary Arts Center.

Rent the Young Dance Studios

Young Dance has two large studios available for rent in the Midway neighborhood of Saint Paul. Easily accessible by the Green Line light rail, the 16 and 67 Bus Lines, and with ample parking in the Fairview Business Center parking lot. The space is fully ADA accessible with ramps to the sprung studio floor and automatic door openers.

Rentals are currently available:

  • Monday-Thursday, 8:00am–3:30pm
  • Tuesday, 7:45–9:00pm
  • Wednesday, 7:15–9:00pm
  • Friday, 11:00am–9:00pm
  • Saturday, 3:00–9:00pm
  • Sunday, 8:00am–9:0pm

The studios are newly equipped with sprung Harlequin Marley flooring, a Bluetooth speaker system, and wifi. A projector with AV adapters is available by request. Studio 2 has ballet barres and a mirror. The studio has a clear COVID safety plan including regular disinfecting of all floors and surfaces and a new HVAC system that refreshes the air 7-8 times per hour.

Studio 1: Measures 41′ x 38′ and rents at $25/hour
Studio 2: Measures 38′ x 38′ and rents at $20/hour

MotionArt Adult Modern Dance Classes

MotionArt’s mission is to share the art of dance and the joy of movement with people of all ages and abilities. We strive to enrich lives by fostering creativity, body awareness and self-expression in a fun, non-competitive, welcoming environment. We offer ongoing dance classes in-studio, on Zoom and outside (weather permitting).

Paying the regular rate helps keep our organization afloat; however, no one will be turned away for inability to pay. There is also an option to pay what you can.

Studio Rentals at Collide Theatrical in St Paul

Need space to rehearse, choreograph, teach, or hold an event? Collide Theatrical has two studios available for rental in our beautiful St. Paul location.

Studio 1 has 1700 square feet of sprung floor, full wall-length mirrors, Rosco Adagio Marley dance floor, high ceilings, sky lights, and 3 chandeliers.

Studio 2 has 550 square feet of sprung wood floor.

Both studios have the following amenities:

  • Ballet barres for up to 18 students
  • Free and accessible parking

  • Gender-specific bathrooms; non-gender-specific bathroom available in the adjacent building

MotionArt First Friday Improv Gathering

This event is open to people of all ages and abilities. Enjoy being present in the moment, responding to other dancers, finding new ways of moving, and discovering form as it emerges during this fun evening of creative movement. We’ll begin with an informal warm-up, then improvise together based on movement ideas offered by participants.

Come to move, to dance, to observe, or some of each!

Suggested donation, $5-$15. No one turned away for lack of funds.

Contemporary/Ballet/Freestyle Dancer Audition

Casting Notice:
Our production company is looking for an experienced dancer 18 years or older with an extensive background in contemporary, ballet or freestyle dancing for an upcoming video.

The video is for a non-broadcast commercial for a creative real estate company which transforms older buildings into beautiful new spaces. We are casting a dancer to dance throughout the building/s.

The audition is to be self-taped, 45 seconds long, and emailed prior to 11:00am on Monday, January 30. Call-backs will be in person. We plan to film at the beginning of February.

Associate/Assistant Professor in Dance at MSU Mankato

The Department of Theatre and Dance seeks a tenure-track, assistant, or associate professor in dance. Review of applications will begin February 1, 2023 and continue until the position is filled.

Required qualifications:

  • Doctoral or terminal degree in MFA or PhD in Dance (if ABD, degree must be conferred on an official transcript and received in Human Resources by August 14, 2023).
  • Experience teaching in the college/university setting.
  • Experience teaching a variety of dance levels from novice to emerging young professionals.
  • Evidence of appropriate professional, creative and/or scholarly research activity in dance.
  • Demonstrated ability to serve a diverse population and apply an equity lens to this position including social justice and/or anti-racism.

Analog Dance Works Hiring Marketing Coordinator for Upcoming Production

Analog Dance Works is looking for a dynamic team player to join Analog’s upcoming production, The Awe Factor.

Marketing Coordinator

  • Reports to Artistic Director
  • 0.5 to 2 hours weekly for the duration of project.
  • Approximately 48 hours total work, starting June 2023 through one month after 2024 production, TBC and funding pending.
  • Compensation: $1,100 stipend, negotiable.

Role

  • Plan, design, and implement a marketing campaign for The Awe Factor.
  • Coordinate marketing efforts with Artistic Director and Science Community Coordinator, as well as with presenting venue.
  • Keep website current throughout the duration of the project.

Bonus skills:

  • Experience in designing promotional material for print, social media and websites.
  • Social Media master-level knowledge.
  • Excellent writing, organizational skills.
  • Thinking outside the box.

This job is majority remote with possible in-person meetings and event attendance.
