MotionArt Adult Modern Dance Classes

A group of dancers jump on one leg in a large studio

MotionArt’s mission is to share the art of dance and the joy of movement with people of all ages and abilities. We strive to enrich lives by fostering creativity, body awareness and self-expression in a fun, non-competitive, welcoming environment. We offer ongoing dance classes in-studio, on Zoom and outside (weather permitting).

Paying the regular rate helps keep our organization afloat; however, no one will be turned away for inability to pay. There is also an option to pay what you can.

Please go to motionartmn.org to sign up for classes, or contact Pam Gleason for info.

Four class images of young dancers paired with the Young Dance logo

Since 1987, Young Dance has encouraged youth in our community to build body and spirit through the art of dance. Our mission is to transform lives through movement. We are an inclusive community where creativity flourishes, encouraging personal and artistic excellence through diverse forms of dance. Classes are already running and many are at capacity!

Afro-Modern: Wednesdays, 7:00–8:30pm
Ballet 2: Tuesdays, 6:30–8:30pm
Modern 3: Thursdays, 6:45–8:30pm

Taught by Aneka McMullen, Afro-Modern (10–18 years old) is a contemporary class where dancers explore full-body expression rooted in West African, Caribbean, and American dance traditions. Also for students ages 10–18, Ballet 2 is taught by Hannah Pierce. Young Dance teaches ballet skills from a body-positive lens that builds terminology, coordination, flexibility, and rhythm. Finally, Modern 3 (11–14 years old) is a contemporary dance exploration of Space, Time, Body, Effort, Movement, and Form. This class is taught by Blake Nellis.

Hip Hop 3: Mondays, 7:00–8:30pm
Jazz: Thursdays, 5:30–6:30pm

We are excited to add Hip Hop 3 and Jazz dance to the roster in January! Hip Hop 3 is for students ages 13–18. Taught by Waswa Kalema, the class is a high-energy introduction to many styles of Hip Hop including breaking, popping, locking, and house. Jazz dance, taught by Anat Shinar, combines rhythm and rootedness with light and flowing movements to create a full-bodied and unique movement language. Jazz is for students ages 8–14.
