Wednesday Water Dances
Wednesdays, 9:30-11:00am CT with Kealoha Ferreira

A weekly dedication to the vitality and life force of Water. In class, we will offer breath, dance, meditation, story, song, and reflection. Each class will take shape a little differently, staying responsive to the ongoing movements protecting the value and longevity of water worldwide. Facilitated by Kealoha Ferreira, an Ananya Dance Theatre Artist, Wednesday Water Dances will begin with grounding movement, flow into dedicated time for personal practice/research/reflection, and close with collective sharing. All who are committed to deepening their relationship with water are welcome to participate.

Yorchhā* Elements | Yorchhā Integrations
Integrations every Friday, 6:00-7:00pm CT with Kealoha Ferreira
Elements every Saturday, 9:00-10:00am CT with Parisha Rajbhandari

Yorchhā Elements | Yorchhā Integrations is a new approach to the previous Intro and Advanced class structure. Now, these classes are in conversation with each other, breaking down Yorchhā elementals like footwork or torso articulation in the Saturday “Elements” class and then adding continued complexity in the following Friday’s “Integrations” class.

*Yorchhā is Ananya Dance Theatre’s trade-marked contemporary technique that intersects principles of vinyasa yoga, classical Indian dance form Odishi (from the eastern Indian state of Odisha), and martial art form Chhau (also from Odisha).

Yoga: Aligning With Land
Sundays, 3:00-4:00pm CT with Kealoha Ferreira

From Tadasana (mountain pose), the first asana in Surya Namaskar (sun salutation) A, we connect our feet to the ground and shift our internal landscape to find equity with the land that sustains us. Our practices of relationality and reciprocity are also building blocks for sustainable and regenerative body practices. This Vinyasa class introduces and deepens the fundamentals of structural and energetic alignment in Yoga while moving towards right-relationship between place and community. All are welcome to participate. Variations and modifications will be provided for multiple access points in each class. Mats and blocks are encouraged with limited supplies available at the Institute.

Students attending in-person classes must wear face masks during class. No exceptions.

Headshots of the three black choreographers

Audition Deadline Extended!
We are accepting video-only submissions until December 3, 2022.

Featuring choreographers Yusha-Marie Sorzano, Alanna Morris, and Stefanie Batten Bland.

TU Dance seeks dance artists for The 3-Women Project featuring choreographic works from a group of three internationally renowned black female artists who will each work individually within their own creative processes while simultaneously seeking to explore and discover synergistic and unifying themes throughout the process. The project will incorporate educational opportunities and culminate in live, in-person performances on May 12 and 13, 2023 at The O’Shaughnessy in St. Paul. TU Dance looks forward to engaging with local and national dance artists and our community to share and celebrate the perspectives of these three women through this exciting and ambitious project.

We have a strong interest in cultivating a culturally diverse group of dance artists for this project and creating a cast that represents our diverse world. Seasoned professionals to emerging dance artists with a minimum of 5 years of professional dance experience are encouraged to apply.

Amahl and the Night Visitors – James Sewell Ballet

A gif with an image of a dancer en pointe in arabasque with a large star and the scrolling text Amal and the Night Visitors

Inspired by the one-act opera by Gian Carlo Menotti, this delightful ballet tells the story of a little boy with a disability and his widowed mother, and their life-changing encounter with three kings following a star to Bethlehem. Its themes of faith, forgiveness, healing and compassion celebrate the spirit of Christmas.

Conceived and choreographed by James Sewell, the 50-minute production uses several movement styles, including the visual/gestural style of American Sign Language. The choreographic combination of ASL with traditional ballet provides a visually compelling experience that holds special appeal and meaning for hearing and hearing impaired audiences. The Shepherd’s Dance section invites the participation of several additional cast members from the presenting community.

Presented as part of the Westminster Performing Arts Series.

The Friday, December 2 and Saturday, December 3 evening shows include a Christmas Dinner.
