Black Label Movement’s Riding The Maelstrom – Premiere

Come see the Black Label premiere of Riding The Maelstrom during the third weekend of The Cowles Center’s Fall Forward Festival.

RTM is A non-linear work that visualizes the dynamic energies released from the poisons of chemotherapy during Flink’s mother’s fight with cancer. This work, commissioned for St. Louis’ MADCO had a 2020 postponement/2021 premiere in Missouri – and we’re eager to share this work in our community this fall.

The evening includes performances by the company featuring a sneak peek at some of our new work, followed by a social hour of drinks, dessert bar and dancing –  including a 30-minute swing dance lesson taught by Corey and Betsy Mills.

Rhythmically Speaking, Duniya Drum & Dance, and Twin Cities Ballet Collaborative Master Class

Rhythmically Speaking is excited to be teaching a collaborative one-off class with Duniya Drum & Dance and Twin Cities Ballet, companies with whom we’ll be sharing a bill on the Cowles Center’s first weekend of the Fall Forward Festival, October 29-30!

Come explore West African, ballet and jazz dance techniques and the connections between them in this class led by the company’s artistic directors, with accompaniment from live drummers.

Body Percussion Open Class
Single Workshop, October 23, 2:00-3:30pm. $50.

If you register to attend the Advanced Class, you are registering to attend all three days. The Intermediate Class is a two-day workshop. Body Percussion is an open class with its own registration.

AMP Hosts Viewpoints ’22 Master Class Series with Local Choreographers

AMP is hosting a series of five master classes that engages Twin Cities dance artists as part of the ViewPoints ’22 performances. Each of the five ViewPoints ’22 choreographers will lead a master class the week of the show, highlighting and bringing together the depth and variety the Twin Cities contemporary dance scene has to offer. Have five distinct movement experiences with a welcoming community while dancing on the Southern Theater’s stage!

Three Master Class Series with Mário Nascimento

Open to movers of all levels of dance experience, the classes will feature live percussive music and be influenced by Mário’s background in Afro-Brazilian, Indigenous Brazilian, and contemporary dance styles.

All classes are $10.

Collide Theatrical Apprentice Program

2023 Spring Apprentice Program
January 1–May 31, 2023

Collide Theatrical’s Apprentice Program is a tuition-based professional training and rehearsal program for advanced professional-track dancers ages 18-25. The course provides the necessary skills for dancers to pursue formal positions within the Company and in the world of theater dance.

Apprentices are mentored by and work alongside COLLIDE artistic staff and company dancers.

Requires monthly tuition; BIPOC scholarship-based positions available.

Program Details
• Technique classes (Theater Jazz, Classic Jazz, Ballet, Contemporary) – Mondays and Wednesdays, 9:00-10:30am, January-May, 2023
• Opportunities to observe company rehearsals and choreography sessions
• Sunday Apprentice Rehearsals, 5:00-7:00pm, February 11-March 12, 2023
• Perform with the COLLIDE company in SKOL! March 23-April 1, 2023 at The Southern Theater

Erin Thompson Teaches Advanced Contemporary Classes In Person and on Zoom

Erin’s advanced-level contemporary hybrid class through Zenon Dance School includes floor work, standing warm-ups, and phrase work, all designed to enhance the healthy use of joints and muscle groups as dancers release their weight fully into the support of the ground. Experiential awareness, body mapping, improvisation, and creative work are included as dancers channel their own expressive artistry within the movement. The delightful Dean Magraw will accompany on guitar.

Thursday mornings, 9:30-11:00am
