Home || Body – Bohemian Way with Vie Boheme

Home || Body is a series of workshops celebrating diverse teaching artists and how movement can help community feel like home. Hosted at Threads Dance Nexus, July’s workshop is a collaboration between Threads Dance Project and artist Vie Boheme. The program highlights teaching artists of color and provides a platform for them to share the movement practices that help them build community and feel at home in their bodies.

Our summer iteration of the program features renowned movement artist Vie Boheme. Vie’s teaching practice is rooted in rigor, rest, self-reflection and expression of shooting energy.

This workshop will feature CoreKinetics Yoga, Yin Yoga and The Journal Vibe. Our goal is to build a transformative heat in the body to begin a conversation with it about what it needs in order for you to feel at home within it. We will build heat through CoreKinetics Yoga, explore a conversation between sensation in the body and mental clarity through The Journal Vibe – a collective journal experience and then rest into our discoveries through Yin Yoga.

Workshops will take place from 7:00-8:30pm Tuesday, July 12 and Thursday, July 14 at the Threads Dance Nexus.

Pay what you can, suggested $10-40/class session.

Music will play an essential role in the class as students will be asked to respond to sounds as well as make sounds themselves. This class will give children and caregivers the opportunity to learn more about themselves and one another through the art form of dance.

Ages 16+.
Intensive capped at 15 participants.
Registration must be completed by August 1.
Early Bird: $475 – register by July 15. General: $550.

During class, dancers will build a bottom to top, floor to standing modular class that deepens with task-based repetition, while encoding new movement pathways through basic shapes. Students are encouraged to learn-by-doing, rather than to learn and ‘perform’, relying on muscle memory to strengthen pathways. Architectural forms of the body are created, deconstructed, and recycled within the containers of momentum and temperature, offering a full-body, far-reaching experience of movement.

After class, dancers will focus on creating—using skills as scaffolding for building material as a community. We’ll spend time talking about memory and time, graphing separate experiences together to focus and distill common patterns, shapes, and anecdotes. The final object created will be an investigation that is distinctly your own and something that can be taken into future experiences.
