Open Office Hours – Free Arts Admin Consultations at the Cowles Center

Threads Dance Nexus – A Space to Connect and Create

The Threads Dance Nexus is a brand new community hub that not only provides a home for Threads Dance Project, but also strengthens the social fabric of our Minneapolis community through the connective power of dance.

Our 1,480 square foot space has:

  • A professional-grade speaker sound system
  • Sprung floors, barres, and mirrors
  • Two ADA compliant, gender-neutral changing rooms
  • Large windows and garage door allowing for an abundance of natural light and fresh air

Conveniently located in the Seward neighborhood, we offer free parking and free side street parking. We are a five-minute walk from the Franklin Light Rail Station, and a 2-5 minute walk from the nearest bus stops (lines 2, 9, 22, 67).

To request space, please email nexusrentals@threadsdance.org. A nonrefundable deposit equal to one hour at the renter’s base rate is due to secure space.

Ballet Co.Laboratory Adult Drop-In Classes

No matter if you are a veteran dancer or slipping on your first pair of ballet shoes, Ballet Co.Laboratory is an artistic home for everyone. With 11 different adult drop-in classes offered each week, including conditioning and Pilates, we know we have the right class for you!

Join us in-person or virtually via Zoom. All dancers must sign-in on Mindbody. Class sign-in will close 10 minutes before class begins. Single class and 10-class cards are available and parking is always free!

Studio Rentals at Ballet Co.Laboratory

With sprung floors, high ceilings, natural lighting, surround sound speakers, lobby space, changing rooms, wi-fi access, kitchenette, and free parking we can accommodate groups of any size.

Audition for Live @ The Shed 2022

Choreographers Berit Ahlgren (HoneyWorks) and Helen Hatch (Hatch Dance) seek dancers for a new ensemble work that will premiere at the third annual Live @ The Shed, taking place July 30-31, 2022. Professional dancers of all ages, backgrounds, and experiences are encouraged to apply. Applicants will be asked to improvise, as well as learn phrase work. We are looking for individuals who are creative, collaborative, and expressive.

Audition held at St. Paul Ballet:

Sunday, April 3 between 2:00pm-5:30pm or
Monday, April 4 between 10:00am-1:00pm

Time slots will be assigned following registration and confirmed through email by April 1. If you are unable to audition in person, you may submit a short video (under 5 minutes) in your registration form. Please include improvisation as well as performance footage.

Rehearsals will take place on Tuesdays and Thursdays between April 18-July 31. Full schedule will be sent as part of the agreement, and will include optional class before scheduled rehearsal times.

We will be following the CDC guidelines at the time of the performances in regards to mask requirements, social distancing and audience caps.

Compensation: $1,000.00

This activity is made possible by the voters of Minnesota through a grant from the Minnesota State Arts Board, thanks to a legislative appropriation from the arts and cultural heritage fund.

Zenon Dance School Seeking Summer Office Intern

Zenon is looking for an intern this summer! Learn more about the 2022 Summer Office Intern position and how to apply on our website. 

Responsibilities:

Assist Zenon Dance School’s School Director and School Coordinator with general office functions and  school operations. This includes assisting in data entry and management, customer communication, hosting ZenONLINE classes via Zenon’s Zoom platform, in-person class check-in and customer service, basic marketing support, and with planning projects as they arise.

Skills:

  • Organized and detail oriented
  • Self-motivated and willing to take initiative
  • Familiarity with MS Office including Excel
  • Willingness to work on a wide variety of projects
  • Knowledge of dance or interest in arts administration strongly preferred

Dates: 

Interns must commit to a minimum of 10 weeks and 10-12 hours per week. Availability: Saturday and Sunday mornings preferred. Start and end dates are flexible. Duties include in-person and remote tasks.

McKnight Fellowships for Dancer and Choreographers Applications are open

The McKnight Fellowships for Choreographers and Dancers annually awards three $25,000 fellowships to Minnesota choreographers and three $25,000 fellowships to Minnesota dancers. The program supports fellows through additional career and artistic development, including solo commissions, a fellows’ retreat, and other programs.

The application website is closing! The deadline to apply for a fellowship is TODAY, March 30, 2022 at 3:00 PM CST. Please plan to submit your application early.

Iridescent Blue by MIRAGE Performing Arts

We are thrilled to release our newest production, Iridescent Blue, featuring some of the most difficult solo piano works ever written, which are reimagined and transformed into continuous movements that are in complete sync with the music.

We will be depicting things that ‘change’ – the color, shape, sound and even yourself, set in the music by Saint-Saëns, Liszt-Schubert, Somei Satoh, Ravel, and Gershwin.
Through our collaboration, we are continuing to develop our technique of bringing forth the original intentions of the composers as a direction in creating unique artistic expressions. Our hope is to create a performance where the audience can experience Classical music and Ballet with new light and deeper understanding.

Ballet Co.Laboratory Presents The Four Seasons and Other String Pairings

Join Ballet Co.Laboratory for the world premiere of Joseph Morrissey’s The Four Seasons inspired by Vivaldi’s music and the flow of Minnesota’s seasons.

Choreography by: Kinsun Chan, Joseph Morrissey, and Genevieve Waterbury

Performed by: The Company Dancers of Ballet Co.Laboratory, the Performance Ensemble of The School of Ballet Co.Laboratory, and select musicians from the Minnesota Orchestra and Minnesota Opera.

In addition to The Four Seasons, a noteworthy pairing of Kinsun Chan’s Shifts and Genevieve Waterbury’s Danse Macabre will complete this production which celebrates a dancer’s most notable collaborator, musicians.

The Four Seasons: choreographed by Joseph Morrissey

Beginning with the first blossoms of Spring, through the heat of Summer, into the twirls of Fall, and finally the swirling of Winter snow, The Four Seasons makes Vivaldi’s notes dance off of the page. Intricate footwork, unpredictable partnering, and elaborate movement patterns bring the feeling, color, and happenings of each season to life. Performed by the Company of Ballet Co.Laboratory to a live string quartet made up of the Twin Cities’ finest musicians, this work celebrates the splendor and cadence of each season.

Shifts: choreographed by Kinsun Chan 

Inspired by the shape, movement and sound of the cello, Kinsun Chan brings the music of Bach to life with 13 dancers and 1 cellist. Known for his intricate use of lighting and architecture, Kinsun explores different dimensions of this iconic music allowing the dancers and musician to move as one.

Danse Macabre: choreographed by Genevieve Waterbury

Danse Macabre is based on Saint-Saëns’ poem Dance Macabre which has become a metaphor for how chaos and order depend on each other. In this piece, dancers navigate the push and pull of daily responsibilities, discover others on similar paths, and embrace the power of unison.

The Cowles Center requires audience members ages 5+ to either show proof of vaccination or proof of a negative test taken within 72 hours of performance. In addition, all audience members must wear a mask covering their nose and mouth while inside the venue.

Martha Graham Dance Company

The Martha Graham Dance Company has been a world leader in the evolving art form of modern dance since its founding in 1926. Today, the Company is embracing a new programming vision that showcases masterpieces by Graham alongside newly commissioned works by contemporary artists. During its 96-year history, the Company has received acclaim from audiences and critics in more than 50 countries.

The Northrop program includes the Martha Graham masterpiece, Chronicle; CAVE, a new work by Hofesh Shechter featuring Daniil Simkin, principal dancer with American Ballet Theatre; and the Northrop’s Centennial Commission, Canticle for Innocent Comedians, an extraordinary new collaboration inspired by the themes and format of the lost Graham work from 1952. This regional debut by eight choreographers includes Lead Choreographer Sonya Tayeh with Alleyne Dance, Yin Yue, Jenn Freeman, Micaela Taylor, and Juliano Nunes, plus an original score by jazz pianist and composer, Jason Moran.
