Roseville Dance Instructor – Saturday Mornings

Roseville School of Dance is hiring a Saturday morning Dance Instructor.

This position will focus on our younger dance classes, ages two through seven, primarily tap and ballet. These classes are learning new techniques and coordinating dances for the spring recital, May 21-22.  Roseville Parks and Recreation’s dance program is a non-competitive, recreation based program to inspire youth to enjoy dance. Pay is $15-$20/hour DOQ.

Class Schedule
9:00-9:30am: Baby Ballet – ages 2-3 with parent/caregiver
9:35-10:15am: Preschool Combo – Tap and Ballet
10:20-11:00am: Kindergarten – Ballet and Tap
11:05-11:50am: Beginner I Dance – Ballet and Tap

This film is…
Queer ceremony. Tierra. Fuego, Agua, Viento. Reclaiming connection to bloodlines through the guidance of plant and land ancestors on Dakota and Anishinaabe land, Mni Sota Makoce. We find ourselves right where we are, as we listen deeply to the plantita ancestors near us. This dance film is the biomythology of bodies in Latine diaspora, Boricua, Chicana, Chilean. We journey with the archetypes which support/guide/mask/empower us, we are LOVER, VIRGEN, SHADOW, SERVANT, SIREN and ALCHEMIST. We are here now, and ancient, elders in training and millennials, we are stress, and meditation, we are tired and we are growing.

Twin Cities Ballet’s A Minnesota Nutcracker Returns to the Stage

TCB’s beloved holiday classic with a Minnesota twist returns to Ames Center this December! This production retains all the magic and traditions of the classic Nutcracker ballet, but features Minnesota settings with stunning, custom-designed Minnesota-centric backdrops, and offers audience members something truly unique: a connection to home. Deemed one of the 12 essential holiday events by MPR, A Minnesota Nutcracker is delightful entertainment for the whole family! 

This year also includes the launch of Twin Cities Ballet’s new Sensory-Relaxed performance series, the first of its kind in Minnesota. These performances are designed to be more accessible for persons with sensory sensitivities and families with young children through relaxed theater rules and modified sensory elements. We are thrilled to be able to share the love of ballet with people who may experience difficulties in a regular performance setting.

Choreographers/Teachers – DanceBARN Festival 2022

DanceBARN Festival 2022 is accepting applications for choreographers and teachers for the July 18-24, 2022 festival in Battle Lake, Minnesota.

The DanceBARN Festival is an annual event that brings professional dancers, choreographers, and dance educators together for one week of dancing, creating, relaxing, and performing in the heart of the lakes. We are partnering with The Hideaway at Xanadu Island for lodging on their beautiful property.

Our theme for 2022 is Dancing Duos!

Co-founded and co-directed by dynamic duo Molly and Ayumi, DanceBARN have encountered many other dancing duos and have dreamed of hosting a festival that celebrates these unique collaborative relationships. The 2022 DanceBARN Festival aspires to deepen the connection between collaborators and create new relationships between other dancing duos from across the country!

Moving Practice with Elayna Waxse – December 14 to December 21

Moving Practice is a weekly class series for professional dancers. Classes prioritize rigor, diversity of contemporary aesthetics, variety of class content, and commitment. Professional level dancers of all styles are welcome.

Elayna’s class contextualizes contemporary dance technique as an ongoing process of body awareness within larger ecological systems. How we exist in our bodies replicates how we exist in the world. Utilizing improvisation, set phrase work, somatic exercises and conversation, we will explore physical prowess, performativity, and authenticity in movement and activism.

Elayna Waxse is originally from Overland Park, Kansas and is now based in Minneapolis, Minnesota. She began her training at nine years old with Alecia Good and also at the Kansas City Ballet School under the direction of Karen P. Brown, spending her summers at the School of American Ballet in New York City.  She continued her training at the Professional Division program at Pacific Northwest Ballet School in Seattle, WA., where she regularly performed with the company.

Professionally, Elayna has danced with Minnesota Dance Theatre, Colorado Ballet/Colorado Ballet Studio Company, Black Label Movement, BodyCartography Project, and with Cie. Ismael Ivo at ImPulsTanz Vienna International Dance Festival 2014. She was a member of TU Dance from 2012 to 2019, and was part of the original creation team of Come Through, the collaboration between TU Dance and Grammy-award winning musical group Bon Iver. Through this collaboration Elayna performed at the Hollywood Bowl (LA, CA), the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts (Washington, D.C.), and at Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival (Manchester, TN).

Other credits include work by George Balanchine, Glen Tetley, Loyce Houlton, Eliot Feld, Uri Sands, Dwight Rhoden, Francesca Harper, Gioconda Barbuto, Katrin Hall, Greg Dolbashian, and Stephanie Batten-Bland. Elayna is a 2019 recipient of a McKnight Fellowship in Dance.

Twin Cities Ballet is Hiring

Twin Cities Ballet has an open position for a male company dancer for the second half of the 2021/2022 season, January 2–May 8, 2022. This is a competitive, salaried position with an 18-week contract. Strong classical ballet and contemporary skills required.

Our spring season includes:

TCB’s Choreographic Voices – TCB artists will explore the creative process and present experimental and new works on January 28 and 29 at the Dance Cube performance space at Ballet Royale Minnesota in Lakeville.

Pink Floyd’s THE WALL: A Rock Ballet – TCB will be performing its smash-hit original rock ballet at the Fitzgerald Theater in St. Paul on March 11–13, with live music from popular local band Momentary Lapse of Floyd.

Giselle – The season will conclude with the beautiful ballet classic, Giselle, at Ames Center in Burnsville on May 6–8. This will be the Twin Cities Ballet company premiere of one of the most popular and enduring ballet favorites.

Creative Movement Workshop for Adults

Creative Movement is a workshop for adult movers who are just beginning to enter, or re-enter, a movement practice and are curious about improvisation within the realm of contemporary dance. However, more experienced movers are also welcome in order to explore their own practice in a relaxed and open environment.

This class will include a group warm-up, several layers of prompted improvisation, and a shared improv score set to music. The atmosphere is welcoming and celebratory of all styles, levels, and abilities. It is a chance to explore your own body and self through motion and flow, bringing out your authentic movement voice, and taking whatever it is you need from what is offered. Let’s have fun, be playful, and get curious together through dance. 

This is an optionally hybrid class if you would like to livestream it on Zoom. The maximum number of participants in studio is 12, so if it fills up, or you feel more comfortable dancing at home, please feel free to join online.

Ballet Minnesota Presents The Classic Nutcracker

The Classic Nutcracker returns to the stage for it’s 33rd production.

After a year away from the stage, Ballet Minnesota is thrilled to present The Classic Nutcracker this December 18 and 19 at The O’Shaughnessy at St. Catherine University.

Don’t miss this exciting opportunity to see Artistic Director Andrew Rist’s original choreography to the beautiful score by Tchaikovsky! This family favorite has something magical in store for everyone who attends this dazzling production. Follow Clara as she receives an enchanting Nutcracker who comes to life right before your eyes! He guides her on a whimsical journey that culminates in meeting the charming and sparkling Sugar Plum Fairy and her Cavalier, who present Clara with delightful dances from their Land of Sweets.

Call for Art: TAMN’s Digital Exhibition for Student Debt Cancellation

TakeActionMinnesota believes that artists can create worlds and possibilities that our reality may not include and evoke an emotional response where there previously was none. In a digital exhibition, TakeActionMinnesota seeks to display representations of what our world currently resembles with $1.8 trillion of federal student loan debt versus what our world could be if student debt is cancelled. Our goal is to seek out Minnesota residents and artists who are affected by or have loved ones that are affected by student debt.

TakeActionMN will accept ALL submissions as long as the Student Debt Cancellation Team feels the work addresses the theme.

Prompts that address the theme of the call may include:
-what experiences could look like with Student Debt Cancellation
-how individual lives would change with Student Debt Cancellation
-who student debt affects
-what the world will look like if President Biden doesn’t cancel student debt and payments continue in February 2022

Selection Process:
All appropriate work that addresses the theme will be accepted into this exhibition. All art forms are accepted for this call including the visual, graphic, plastic, performance and decorative arts. With their submission, artists permit their piece and artist statement to be posted on TakeAction Minnesota’s social media and used in promotional activities. The goal of this exhibition is to garner more public support for Student Debt Cancellation. All images and media of the art will remain under copyright and ownership of the artist as the artist’s property.

The exhibition will be live by January 8, and celebrated officially during the Debt Collective’s Student Debt Cancellation Week of Action, January 18-22. Artists have until January 5 to submit any questions or inquiries regarding this call, after which questions will not be addressed.

Applications must be sent via email with subject line: “Digital Exhibition for Student Debt Cancellation Application” to DyAnna@takeactionminnesota.org and must adhere to these guidelines:
-Up to three high-quality images of ONE of your works that addresses the prompt, made in the last two years. All images of 2D work must be cropped to show only the artwork, 3D work must be photographed using a white background.
-These high-quality images of your work should be 72 DPI, minimum 800 pixels wide.
-Images must be .JPEG or .PNG, and files under 10MB and attached in one email.
-Images/art may be previously published or submitted.
-Images should be labeled as:  LASTNAME_01.
-Statement of Interest regarding why you addressed this call for art, and what Student Debt Cancellation means to you – 250 words maximum.
-Short bio: name, pronouns, town/county; optional: occupation, your debt amount if you are comfortable sharing – 250 words maximum.
