TU Dance Center: Renting TU Dance Center

TU Dance Center is available for rental when not in use by the school.

TU Dance Center features:

Reception area and front desk for check-in or event use; access to adjacent dressing room and green room with kitchenette are available upon request.

Both studios: sprung dance floor with Marley-type surface by Harlequin, wall of mirrors, portable ballet barre units 10′ in length, room-level sound system with CD and mini-jack inputs, 50′ LCD TV cart for presentation and videoconferencing. Large windows providing ample natural light.

Studio 1 only: a curtain that can be drawn on entire mirror, wall-mounted ballet barres of 27′ and 33′.

The Arena is Available for Studio Rental

Located in the heart of the LynLake neighborhood, The Arena is available to rent for your rehearsal, class, and event needs!

$20/hour for rehearsals and $25/hour for class or audition offerings. Negotiable for long-term inquiries.

Our space offers 1,305 square feet, 30’×40′ of sprung floor, Marley dance flooring, wall-length mirrors (with curtains to cover if preferred), free wifi, and a changing room.

We are situated on multiple bus lines, including the 21, 4, 23, 612, and 18; with plenty of free street parking around the building.

Entry to the event requires a 100% tax-deductible donation in any amount to at least one of the performing companies as part of Give to the Max Day (GttMD) through November 18, 2021.

Each organization will send the live stream link instructions/information directly to its GttMD patrons. This is the fourth annual iteration of AMP’s Move to the Max and the second time the event will be held online. AMP held an open call through DanceMN News for movement organizations of all kinds to participate. The captivating evening will offer just some of what MN has to offer with a wide range of movement styles/genres including:

Studio Rentals at Collide Theatrical in St Paul

Need space to rehearse, choreograph, teach, or hold an event? Collide Theatrical has two studios available for rental in our beautiful St. Paul location.

Studio 1 has 1700 square feet of sprung floor, full wall-length mirrors, Rosco Adagio Marley dance floor, high ceilings, sky lights, and three chandeliers.

Studio 2 has 550 square feet of sprung wood floor.

Both studios have the following amenities:

  • Ballet barres for up to 18 students
  • Free and accessible parking and access to public transportation line
  • Gender-specific bathrooms (non-gender-specific bathroom available in the adjacent building)
  • Free Wi-Fi
  • Bluetooth room speakers
  • Cubbies for holding shoes and clothes
  • Two long folding tables
  • Access to up to 30 folding chairs
  • HVAC heated and cooled spaces with temperature control
  • Hallway drinking fountains. Access to kitchenette area available upon request.

Single Rental:
Studio 1 – $30/hour
Studio 2 – $20/hour

Long-Term or Multiple-Day Rental:

Payment for rental bookings must be made 48 hours prior to your booking to hold your reservation. A signed rental agreement and certificate of insurance must be provided prior to your reservation. Katha Dance Theatre Presents: Shaamya – Of Equality

Katha Dance Theatre (KDT) is excited to present the world premiere of Shaamya – Of Equality – their latest collaboration with choreographer Rita Mustaphi, KDT’s Artistic Director, and composer J.D. Steele – at the Park Square Theatre in St. Paul, MN on November 19-21, 2021.

Inspired by the poetry of writer and activist Kazi Nazrul Islam (1899-1976) and using a mixture of multicultural dance, music, and spoken word poetry, the show juxtaposes past and present fights for racial, cultural and gender equity.

Equality will be set to a live rendition of original compositions by Twin Cities musical legend J.D. Steele, who will be accompanied by pianist Billy Steele and vocalist Jevetta Steele, as well as drum artist Abhinav Sharma. It will also include poetic contributions by Somali poet and playwright Ifrah Mansour, who will perform her acclaimed poem “I am a Refugee” onstage alongside Mustaphi and Steele.

In addition to KDT’s Kathak dance ensemble, contributions from dancers of multiethnic backgrounds will fill out the show, including ballet, flamenco, tap, and hip-hop.

Collide Theatrical Seeking Male-Identifying Dancers

Collide Theatrical Dance Company is seeking male-identifying dancers with strong ballet and jazz technique and acting abilities for a 16-week contract January 2022-May 2022. Performances include Our Stories with Guest Choreographer Jeremy McQueen, Romance Cabaret, and Class of ’85.

Competitive pay; independent contractor positon.
Rehearsal hours 9:30am-2:30/3:30pm, Monday-Friday.
Housing, airfare and per diem not included. Must be willing to relocate to the Twin Cities.

Rhythmically Speaking Submissions Due This Friday

Submissions for Rhythmically Speaking’s upcoming annual ummer program – The Cohort 2022 – are due this Friday, November 12!

This year, we are seeking works for stage AND screen: stage works will be shown in a live production in the Twin Cities in August 2022, and screen works will be shown in screenings in Fall 2022 in partnership with the Sans Souci Festival of Dance Cinema (CO). Submitted works must explore jazz and/or American social dance ideas from forms including but not limited to tap and hip hop styles. We encourage you to join the ongoing conversation around “what constitutes jazz and American social dance,” and the sociocultural histories of and innovations in these styles by submitting.

Artists 21 and older at any point in their careers are welcomed to submit. Separate curatorial panels for stage and screen will select three works for the live production in August 2022, and 7-10 films for fall screening events. Stage submissions must be for eight or fewer dancers and between 15-22 minutes in length, and will be selected through both this open call and by invitation. The staged works panel will be selecting two works of existent, revisited repertoire from visiting (based outside of Minnesota) artists, and one proposal for a new work from a local (Minnesota-based) artist. All stage works will be performed by the Rhythmically Speaking company dancers. Screen works submissions must be between 2-15 minutes in length.

Ashwini Ramaswamy’s Let the Crows Come

Ashwini Ramaswamy’s Let the Crows Come invokes the metaphor of crows as messengers for the living and guides for the departed to channel memory and homeland, guidance and dislocation.

Featuring Ashwini Ramaswamy, Alanna Morris-Van Tassel, and Berit Ahlgren, the south Indian dance form of Bharatanatyam is deconstructed and recontextualized to recall a memory that has a shared origin but is remembered differently from person to person. Set to an original recorded score of classical south Indian instrumentation, electro-acoustic cello, and electronics/turntables.

Covid19: Effective September 1, 2021, all visitors to the Cowles who are attending a performance/event in our theater spaces are required to show either proof of a full course of COVID-19 vaccinations administered at least 14 days prior to the show or a negative COVID-19 test taken within 72 hours of the performance/event. Masks are required throughout the Cowles.

Javan Mngrezzo Subs for Mathew Janczewski’s Friday Class at the Arena

Javan Mngrezzo

Currently a new company member with Black Label Movement, Javan has most recently performed locally with ARENA DANCES and Threads Dance Project. A Western Oregon University graduate with a bachelor of science degree in Dance and Sociology, he is a performing artist with many skills in a diverse range including arts, communication, technology, and diversity. Javan is foremost a dancer; using alternative skills in secondary occupations, and always seeking additional performance opportunities (both personal and collaborative), class/studio teaching positions, and intensives/research projects. Javan is open to a vast array of possibilities and opportunities as a dedicated, driven, diligent, very fast learner with unwavering conviction to work set before him.
