Generating Room Applications for January-June 2022 Series Now Open

The Cowles Center’s Generating Room program is a six-month long studio residency that supports three Minnesota artists and/or collectives in nurturing a work in progress through 100 hours of free rehearsal space, as well as marketing and administrative support. This program is intended for artists at any stage of their career who need time and space to develop a project or idea rooted in dance without the pressure of a completed end product.

Program proposals should leverage this opportunity to launch the project into next steps and must involve a partnership with a distinct community or use community engagement as part of the proposal. Artists or organizations from outside of Minnesota may partner on the project, but the lead applicant must be based in Minnesota.

Competitive applications will bring a unique perspective, discussion, and engagement opportunity to the Minnesota arts community. Past Generating Room projects have included: open rehearsals, work-in-progress showings, roundtable discussions, workshop series, and film showings.

Adult Beginning/Intermediate Modern at Threads Dance Nexus

Adult Modern with Rae Charles Harge – Register Here

Thursdays, 7:00-8:30pm
Through December 16, 2021
Drop-in rate: $20

A recreational class perfect for adults of any experience level. We will explore the basics of various modern dance techniques focusing on alignment, mobility, and expression.

Rae Charles Harge holds a BFA in Dance with honors from the Tisch School of the Arts and was also recognized as one of the most “up and coming young choreographers” participating in the 2012 Young Choreographer’s Festival in New York City. She has performed the repertoire of Robert Battle, Ron K. Brown, David Dorfman, Larry Kegwin, Alonzo King, Nicholas Leichter, Sydney Skybetter, Kate Weare, and Jawole Willa Jo Zollar, among many others, before joining Threads Dance Project as a full company member in 2014.  Currently, she is fulfilling her passions for the arts, educational reform, and social justice as she pursues a doctorate in Curriculum and Instruction at the University of Minnesota and through her continued teaching practice at the Threads Dance Nexus.

Her approach to modern combines influences from Horton, ballet, jazz, and release techniques to help students develop kinesthetic awareness, a sense of groundedness, and the ability to utilize opposition and momentum.
