Join us for our adult/teen drop-in classes.

Dance is for everyone! Get your body moving and enjoy a variety of dance and conditioning classes, including Pilates.

You can join us in-person, or virtually via Zoom. All attending dancers must sign-in on MindBody. Class sign-in will close 10 minutes before the class begins. Class size is limited to 10 dancers for in-studio.

Analog Dance Works is Looking for Dancers for its Upcoming Production

Analog Dance Works is seeking two dancers to join the cast of Cloud Cover, a quartet exploring individual and collective responses to the climate crisis, to be shared in the company’s inaugural show, Tellus.

60 hours of rehearsals will take place between November 1, 2021 and April 30, 2022 with tentative performance dates May 3-6, 2022.

Compensation is $1,060.

To be considered, applicants must send a link to a video up to eight minutes in length of themself dancing to analogdanceworks@gmail.com by October 8, 2021. The video should include no more than three clips. Resumes will be considered as supplemental material but are not required.

Dancers should be comfortable partnering and have an interest in a collaborative rehearsal process and movement generation. We welcome applicants of diverse races, ethnicities, geographic origins, gender identities, ages, socioeconomic backgrounds, sexual orientations, religions, abilities, and performance backgrounds.

Dancers must be fully vaccinated before the first rehearsal date.

TU Dance Center: Adult Beginning Modern with Jennifer Ilse

This workshop with Jennifer Ilse approaches movement with a goal of balance – fluidity in strength and power in softness. This class is centered on breath and economy of movement to teach internal and external body awareness, rhythm and phrasing, and ensemble dancing through modern dance patterns and improvisation.

Session Two: October 27–December 8
Six weeks. No classes November 22-27.

RS Seeking Jazz and American Social Dance-Inspired Works for Stage and Screen

Rhythmically Speaking, a Twin Cities-based dance company with a 14-year history and a national reputation for excellence in jazz, seeks works for stage and screen for presentation as a part of our program The Cohort 2022.

The program includes a live stage production in the Twin Cities in summer 2022 and dance film screenings in the fall in partnership with the Sans Souci Festival of Dance Cinema (CO), a niche film festival specializing in films that integrate the aesthetics of dance and cinema.

Submitted works must explore jazz and/or American social dance ideas from forms including but not limited to tap and hip hop styles. We encourage you to join the ongoing conversation around “what constitutes jazz and American social dance,” and the sociocultural histories of and innovations in these styles by submitting. Artists 21 and older at any point in their careers are welcomed to submit.

Separate curatorial panels for stage and screen works will select three works for a live production in Minneapolis in August 2022, and 7-10 films for fall screening events. Stage submissions must be for eight or fewer dancers and between 15-22 minutes in length, and will be selected through both this open call and by invitation. The staged works panel will be selecting two works of existent, revisited repertoire from visiting (based outside of Minnesota) artists, and one proposal for a new work from a local (Minnesota-based) artist. All stage works will be performed by the Rhythmically Speaking company dancers. Screen works submissions must be between 2-15 minutes in length.

Studio Rentals at Collide Theatrical in St Paul

Need space to rehearse, choreograph, teach, or hold an event? Collide Theatrical has two studios available for rental in our beautiful St. Paul location.

Studio 1 has 1700 square feet of sprung floor, full wall-length mirrors, Rosco Adagio Marley dance floor, high ceilings, sky lights, and three chandeliers.

Studio 2 has 550 square feet of sprung wood floor.

Both studios have the following amenities:

  • Ballet barres for up to 18 students
  • Free and accessible parking and access to public transportation line
  • Gender-specific bathrooms (non-gender-specific bathroom available in the adjacent building)
  • Free Wi-Fi
  • Bluetooth room speakers
  • Cubbies for holding shoes and clothes
  • Two long folding tables
  • Access to up to 30 folding chairs
  • HVAC heated and cooled spaces with temperature control
  • Hallway drinking fountains. Access to kitchenette area available upon request.

Single Rental:

Dance Tenure Track Position 2022-2023 at St. Olaf College

The Department of Dance at St. Olaf College invites applications for a full-time, tenure track position in Dance at the Assistant Professor level to begin August 2022.

We are looking for an innovative, versatile teacher and artist scholar with depth and breadth of experience in African/African Diasporic dance theory and practice and evidence of integrating these into their teaching and research. The candidate will mentor undergraduate students academically and artistically, as well as stage choreographic and performance works for a varied student body. MFA in Dance or Ph.D. in Dance or a related field in hand or near completion by time of appointment required.

Review of applications will begin on January 11, 2022, and will continue until the position is filled. Finalist interviews are expected in March 2022.

Jennifer Glaws brings her viscerally honest choreographic voice and rich investigations in EFFORT and SPACE to the Southern Theater’s stage for a one-of-a-kind performance by Jagged Moves.

The full evening, all female sextet explores the central themes of boundaries and reclamation as flutist Julie Johnson performs original scores of her experimental and contemplative music. The dancers traverse the soundscape and mysterious, sculptural environment on a relentless journey of agency, investigating the stories that reside between “us.”

Mat 2
Intermediate/Advanced Exercises

Mat 2 includes the remaining intermediate and advanced level exercises as well as essential movement principles and training tips for advancing clients to the higher levels. Pilates for sports specific activities are also covered.

Taught by Cari Riis Stemmler and Tiza Wynn Riley.

Prerequisites:

If you are taking this course online, you will need to have the following equipment:

  • A mat
  • Additional props, which may or may not be used in class include:
    • resistance bands (medium and light resistance)
    • a Pilates Magic Circle (Ultra Fit Circle and other Pilates rings acceptable)
    • a foam roller
    • an inflatable ball (8-10″ or TOGU Ball)

Taking online courses: While we believe there is no better way to learn movement then in person, we understand that online is a good option for many. When taking a movement class online, you must be completely visible to the instructor, lighting must be good enough to see detailed movement, and internet connection must be reliable and strong. Balanced Body is not responsible for lost class hours if your internet crashes or your connection is unstable.

Collide Theatrical Seeking Male-Identifying Dancers

Collide Theatrical Dance Company is seeking male-identifying dancers with strong ballet and jazz technique and acting abilities to serve as a replacement in our 2021/2022 performance season. Background in tap, acro, hip-hop, or other styles is a plus.

Contract is from January 2022–June 2022 with the possibility of renewal for our 2022/2023 season. Must be willing to relocate to the Twin Cities. Salaried position; competitive pay. Dancers of color are highly encouraged to apply.

Kai Hazelwood is a passionate and experienced choreographer, movement director, performer, educator, producer, and activist.  Sarah Ashkin is an educator, choreographer, scholar and trained facilitator committed to dismantling racism. Anti-Racist Dramatury – what to expect
Anti-Racist Dramaturgy is offered to artists and academics. This workshop draws on Kai and Sarah’s dual experience as anti-racist facilitators with Practice Progress and artistic directors of their own respective arts and social justice organizations, Good Trouble Makers, and GROUND SERIES. This workshop offers artists and makers of all mediums a framework for ongoing anti-racist project design, production, and dramaturgy supported by examples from Kai and Sarah’s extensive practices as arts activists. This workshop is free to all participants.
