Alexandra Bodnarchuk – Audition

Alexandra Bodnarchuk is seeking one dancer for a project (duet) running from October 2021-May 2022 with the potential of extending.

Strong candidates will have an interest in: risk taking, partnering, and ten or more years of movement experience. All dancers who have female gendered life experience are welcome to audition. The project is not seeking cis-gendered men. 

Dancer must be fully vaccinated by the start of rehearsals.

Dancers will be compensated at $15/hour. 

Start date: October 18, 2021 (flexible). Rehearsals are 3 hours, 2/week (6 hours/week total).

Schedule will be finalized upon dancer’s hiring. 

Approximate compensation: $1,800-$2,200. 

Strength training to support the physical demands of the choreography will be offered once per week from January-May 2022. This will also be compensated time.

Rent the Young Dance Studios

Young Dance has two large studios available for rent in the Midway neighborhood of Saint Paul. Easily accessible by the Green Line light rail, the 16 and 67 Bus Lines, and with ample parking in the Fairview Business Center parking lot. The space is fully ADA accessible with ramps to the sprung studio floor and automatic door openers.

Rentals are available between the hours of 9:00am-3:00pm Monday through Friday, after 4:00pm on Saturday, and all day on Sundays.

The studios are newly equipped with sprung Harlequin Marley flooring, a bluetooth speaker system, and wifi. There are no mirrors. The studio has a clear COVID safety plan including regular disinfecting of all floors and surfaces, as well as a new HVAC system which refreshes the air 7-8 times per hour. Renters will also have access to a large lobby (25’ x 29’) and up to 50 chairs.

Studio 1: Measures 41′ x 38′ and rents at:

Twin Cities Tap Festival Concert

The Twin Cities Tap Festival (TCTF) celebrates the incredible breadth, depth, and artistry of the ever-evolving American art of tap dance. The seventh annual TCTF Concerts and Showcase shines a spotlight on the dynamic and ever-changing art of tap dance.

Friday and Saturday, October 22-23 – This year’s concert features live music accompanying the best in local and national tap artists, including Jumaane Taylor and Max Pollak!

Celebrating John Coltrane’s A Love Supreme with live jazz and tap dance, Jumaane Taylor’s Supreme Love displays the spiritual, artistic, and historical values that infuse human life, using a symbol of nature to transcend hope. Max Pollak will perform All in One, a solo performance of uniquely arranged drum rhythms, songs, dances, and stories that outline Pollak’s artistic evolution. All music is created live by Pollak, only using his body.

Covid19: Effective September 1, 2021, all visitors to the Cowles who are attending a performance/event in our theater spaces are required to show either proof of a full course of COVID-19 vaccinations administered at least 14 days prior to the show or a negative COVID-19 test taken within 72 hours of the performance/event. Masks are required throughout the Cowles.

Analog Dance Works is Looking for Dancers for its Upcoming Production

Analog Dance Works is seeking two dancers to join the cast of Cloud Cover, a quartet exploring individual and collective responses to the climate crisis, to be shared in the company’s inaugural show, Tellus. 

60 hours of rehearsals will take place between November 1, 2021 and April 30, 2022 with tentative performance dates May 3-6, 2022.

Compensation is $1,060.

To be considered, applicants must send a link to a video up to eight minutes in length of themself dancing to analogdanceworks@gmail.com by October 8, 2021. The video should include no more than three clips. Resumes will be considered as supplemental material but are not required.

Dancers should be comfortable partnering and have an interest in a collaborative rehearsal process and movement generation. We welcome applicants of diverse races, ethnicities, geographic origins, gender identities, ages, socioeconomic backgrounds, sexual orientations, religions, abilities, and performance backgrounds.

Dancers must be fully vaccinated before the first rehearsal date.

Introduction to Pilates and Beginning/Intermediate Exercises
In person and online course.

Balanced Body Mat 1 includes an introduction to the history and principles of Pilates, a review of core anatomy, beginning and most intermediate level exercises with modifications, lectures on class order and programming in a fitness setting, and guidelines for safely teaching seniors and pre-, and post-natal classes.

Pilates for sports specific activities are also covered.

Twin Cities Ballet World Premiere of Dracula

Twin Cities Ballet’s premiere of Dracula will take place at Ames Center on October 27-28. This new ballet features an original story adaptation by TCB Artistic Director Denise Vogt based on the classic novel, and an original musical score written for this production by Minnesota composer Simon Sperl. Also featured in the evening are RED, a ballet inspired by The Handmaid’s Tale, and the premiere of a new Halloween-themed work choreographed by TCB company dancer Micah Chermak.

For Dracula, Vogt used the plot of the Gothic novel as a jumping off point to explore themes of social and physical isolation, mind control, fear, and seduction that permeate the novel, but reinvents the setting. “In this version, the Dracula character is in solitary confinement in a prison,” says Vogt. “It’s not your regular Dracula.” 

Twin Cities Ballet will also be performing Denise Vogt’s RED, an intellectually provocative and emotionally powerful ballet with an all-female cast. The evening is rounded off by the premiere of a new piece choreographed by Micah Chermak, featuring monsters, zombies, and athletic and powerful dancing.

Twin Cities Ballet of Minnesota (TCB) is an independent, 501(c)(3) nonprofit professional ballet company located in the South Metro. Our mission is to make ballet approachable, relatable and fun through innovative, professional and original productions.

These activities are made possible by the voters of Minnesota through grants from the Minnesota State Arts Board and the Metropolitan Regional Arts Council, thanks to a legislative appropriation from the arts and cultural heritage fund.

Studio Rentals at Collide Theatrical in St Paul

Need space to rehearse, choreograph, teach, or hold an event? Collide Theatrical has two studios available for rental in our beautiful St. Paul location.

Studio 1 has 1700 square feet of sprung floor, full wall-length mirrors, Rosco Adagio Marley dance floor, high ceilings, sky lights, and 3 chandeliers.

Studio 2 has 550 square feet of sprung wood floor.

Both studios have the following amenities:

  • Ballet barres for up to 18 students
  • Free and accessible parking and access to public transportation line
  • Gender-specific bathrooms (non-gender-specific bathroom available in the adjacent building)
  • Free Wi-Fi
  • Bluetooth room speakers
  • Cubbies for holding shoes and clothes
  • 2 long folding tables
  • Access to up to 30 folding chairs
  • HVAC heated and cooled spaces with temperature control
  • Hallway drinking fountains. Access to kitchenette area available upon request.

TU Dance Center: Adult Beginning Ballet with Tina Anderson Wallum

Provided by Tina Anderson Wallum, the class work is based on the principles of classical ballet technique, including turnout, distribution of weight, counter pull, plumb line, balance, squareness, alignment and stance, transfer of weight, lift, and counter balance. Also it is based on centering, core strength, flexor tone, extensor tone, muscle currenting, cogwheeling, coordination, and musicality. By the end of the workshop students should understand a basic level of vocabulary and be able to execute it with ease and confidence. Students are intellectually, emotionally and physically supported with validation, engagement, and a sense of belonging.

Session Two: October 26–December 8
Six weeks. No classes November 22-27.

TU Dance Center is available for rental when not in use by the school.

TU Dance Center features:

Reception area and front desk for check-in or event use; access to adjacent dressing room and green room with kitchenette are available upon request.

Both studios: sprung dance floor with Marley-type surface by Harlequin, wall of mirrors, portable ballet barre units 10′ in length, room-level sound system with CD and mini-jack inputs, 50′ LCD TV cart for presentation and videoconferencing. Large windows providing ample natural light.

Studio 1 only: a curtain that can be drawn on entire mirror, wall-mounted ballet barres of 27′ and 33′.
