MotionArt Children’s Dance Classes

MotionArt focuses on nurturing children’s individual creativity while facilitating their understanding of the dance elements of space, time, and energy. Ages 3-6 explore these elements through playful, structured activities allowing them to expand their movement vocabulary, develop body awareness, and gain self-confidence. Ages 7-9 explore the dance elements while being introduced to new movement skills and the creation of their own dances. Ages 9-12 expand their creative and kinesthetic awareness while learning basic movement skills of modern dance.

We offer ways for children to dance through outdoor classes, weather permitting. Contact Pam Gleason for info. Please go to motionartmn.org to sign up for classes. There are various options for payment/donations, and no one will be turned away for inability to pay.

Katha Dance Theatre Virtual Fall Open House

Katha Dance Theatre (KDT) has been teaching and performing Kathak, the North Indian classical dance form, for over three decades. Kathak is an elegant dance form characterized by rhythmic footwork, graceful hand gestures, pirouettes, lyrical movements, and storytelling.

KDT is excited to be offering an Open House via Zoom for prospective students who would like to get a sense of what we offer.

The free class will take place at 11:00am CT on Saturday, August 28, and is open to dancers of all backgrounds over the age of 6. If you would like to join, please email us at info@kathadance.org with your name and contact info! You’ll receive a Zoom link once class numbers are decided.

Moving Practice Contemporary Class – with Non Edwards

Moving Practice is a weekly class series for professional dancers. Classes prioritize rigor, diversity of contemporary aesthetics, variety of class content, and commitment. Professional level dancers of all styles are welcome.

Tuesdays, 9:30-11:00AM at The Arena
Non Edwards teaches throughout August.

Dive into the wide world of eclectic contemporary performance and a multitude of ways to develop your technique. We will explore alignment principles, with hands-on cueing offered for those interested in engaging in touch. Phrasework and guided imagery-based improvisation provide opportunities to integrate information. Class will incorporate Non’s study of restorative exercise, the GYROKINESIS® Method, and Skinner Releasing and Topf Techniques.

MotionArt Open Call

MotionArt is looking for adults of all ages, abilities, races, ethnic backgrounds, gender identities and sexual orientations who have some theater/dance background and a sense of timing/musicality to be a part of a comedic (outdoor) video created by Pam Gleason and filmed on September 3 and 4.

Simple choreography involves walking and/or traveling some other way through space, some improvisation, some isolations and gestures while sitting/standing, musical timing, and reacting (at times over dramatically) to what is going on around you. 

Reimbursement of $13.00/hour for time in rehearsal and filming.

MotionArt especially welcomes inquiries from Black and Indigenous peoples and other peoples of color as we strive to be more inclusive and representative of the community in which we live and work.

Space at The Arena

Located in the heart of the LynLake neighborhood, The Arena is available for your rehearsal, class, and event needs!

Our space offers 1,305 square feet, 30’×40′ of sprung floor, Marley dance flooring, wall-length mirrors (with curtains to cover if preferred), free wifi, and a changing room.

We are situated on multiple bus lines, including the 21, 4, 23, 612, and 18; with plenty of free, street parking around the building.

Ballet Royale’s Grand Open House and Registration Dates

Ballet Royale has designated specific times where staff will be available to meet you, answer questions, and show new families our beautiful facility. FREE placement evaluations are available at each open house. You can join us for the Grand Open House on August 28, or for one of our Registration Open Houses on August 20, September 2, and September 7.

Pilates Mat classes at The Arena

Open Pilates mat classes every Tuesday at The Arena with Amy Jones!

Pilates mat class includes work on breath, centering, body awareness, alignment, core stability, strength and mobility. The class aims to build balance and prepare the body and mind for efficient movement and everyday tasks.

Amy teaches Pilates for ages 7-90 and addresses goals ranging from improved athletic performance to pain-free sitting, standing, and walking. She is certified through Kelly Kane in NYC and has taught in physical therapy settings, gyms, schools, and studios. Her dance-specific teaching experience includes classes for Peridance Capezio Center, Breaking Boundaries, Jam Hops Dance and Gymnastics, and the Holy Angels Dance Team. She is also a teacher-trainer for Cirque-It Fitness and bungee fitness.

ARENA DANCES is seeking an experienced, creative leader who is passionate about increasing arts accessibility and advancing community-centric programming. The Managing Director will work alongside the Artistic Director and Board of Directors to support strategic planning, lead mission-driven programming, and manage daily operations. In this role, you will have the opportunity to engage with the many organizational facets of an arts nonprofit!

  • Desire to learn and grow with the organization
