Auditions for Concerto Dance by Jolene Konkel

Concerto Dance by Jolene Konkel is hosting auditions Saturday, August 14 from 1:00-3:00pm.

Concerto Dance is looking for new company members for our upcoming season! Dancers must have a strong jazz and modern dance background and be available to take company class and rehearse Wednesday and Friday mornings. Contracts start September 10 and include paid performance opportunities. Auditions are open to all. BIPOC women encouraged to audition, specifically to join the cast of Girls in the Band.

Auditions will be held in person at Creo Arts and Dance Conservatory. Please bring resume and headshot. Pre-registration for auditions is strongly encouraged. See website for more information. Please inquire if interested in a video submission.

Studio Rentals at Collide Theatrical in St. Paul

Need space to rehearse, choreograph, teach, or hold an event? Collide Theatrical has two studios available for rental in our beautiful St. Paul location.

Studio 1 has 1700 square feet of sprung floor, full wall-length mirrors, Rosco Adagio Marley dance floor, high ceilings, sky lights, and three chandeliers.

Studio 2 has 550 square feet of sprung wood floor.

Both studios have the following amenities:

  • Ballet barres for up to 18 students
  • Free and accessible parking and access to public transportation line
  • Gender-specific bathrooms (non-gender-specific bathroom available in the adjacent building)
  • Free Wi-Fi
  • Bluetooth room speakers
  • Cubbies for holding shoes and clothes
  • 2 long folding tables
  • Access to up to 30 folding chairs
  • HVAC heated and cooled spaces with temperature control
  • Hallway drinking fountains. Access to kitchenette area available upon request.

Single Rental:
Studio 1 – $30/Hour
Studio 2 – $20/Hour

Long-Term or Multiple-Day Rental:

Studio 2 – $15/Hour

Weekly Rental Rate:
Payment for rental bookings must be made 48 hours prior to your booking to hold your reservation. A signed rental agreement and certificate of insurance must be provided prior to your reservation. Premiere: Prairie Woods SOUND GARDEN near Spicer, MN

The premiere of composer / director JG Everest’s new site-specific performance installation: a new Sound Garden composed and designed specifically for the wooded Geer Island at the Prairie Woods Environmental Learning Center in Spicer, MN.

A truly immersive art and nature experience in a pristine nature preserve. Two hours drive west of the Twin Cities.

Admission is free!

Featuring a live roving movement score by dancers Leslie O’Neill, Sarah Baumert, and Erika Hansen, with live accompaniment by the Free Range Orchestra & Choir, and more.

Dance/Movement Therapy and Trauma

Pre-requisite: 30 hours of DMT theory and practice, or permission of instructor.

Trauma significantly impacts our physical, emotional, and psychological identity as well as our interpersonal relationships. This course will explore dance/movement therapy and somatic therapy-based approaches for working with trauma from a multicultural perspective.

This course is approved by the American Dance Therapy Association, for Alternate Route R-DMT credit.

Live @ The Shed – Premiering LDV

Back by popular demand, Live @ The Shed, produced by Hatch Dance and HoneyWorks, returns to the Lab Taproom, August 7-8, 2021. Twenty-six of the Twin Cities most vibrant dancers come together for an outdoor dance event featuring the world premiere of LDV, co-choreographed by Berit Ahlgren and Helen Hatch.

Inspired by and set to the soundtrack of Federico Fellini’s 1960 film La Dolce Vita; Ahlgren, Hatch and the ensemble embark on a non-linear joy-ride full of whimsy, sweet optimism and goofy charm, undercut by the sinister and cunning moments that ultimately color life. A multi-talented and multi-generational cast bring their energies and experiences together in the creation of this new work.

The Sunday 3:00pm program begins with works-in-progress presentations Gemma Isaacson, Blake Nellis and Joe Tennis, Juliana Johnson, and Penelope Freeh.

Dance/Movement Therapy 1: The Power of Movement

Dance/Movement Therapy is a psychotherapeutic approach that uses embodied creativity, body awareness, movement, and dance for change, growth, and healing. This class will introduce the field of Dance/Movement Therapy (DMT), and focus on techniques for using all forms of non-verbal expression and awareness to promote clinical goals. Non-verbal multicultural and diversity perspective will be emphasized throughout the course. This course is approved by the American Dance Therapy Association, for Alternate Route R-DMT credit.

Saturdays and Sundays, October 9-10 and 23-24, 2021

Twin Cities Ballet Open Company Positions

Twin Cities Ballet has an open position for a male company dancer, Soloist and Principal level. Competitive salaried position, 34-week season. Strong classical ballet and contemporary technique required.

The Arena Seeks Creative Movement Teacher

The Arena is seeking a teacher to join our teaching roster this fall! Located in the Lyn-Lake area of Uptown, The Arena will be a new home for movement. As we build a robust class offering, we are seeking a talented teacher with a passion for children:

Northrop Presents The State Ballet of Georgia Today

Back by popular demand, The State Ballet of Georgia’s original film gets an encore on Northrop’s plaza in a special outdoor screening.

Created specifically for Northrop audiences, this peek at the Georgian ballet company features gala-style excerpts of ballet repertory, interviews with Artistic Director Nina Ananiashvili and featured dancers, and breathtaking views of the State Opera and Ballet Theatre and the city of Tbilisi. The film’s featured ballet repertory includes clips from a number of ballets including Laurencia, premiered in 1939 by Vakhtang Chabukiani; Sagalobeli, a 2007 ballet choreographed to Georgian folk melodies by Yuri Possokhov; Leonid Lavrovsky’s Romeo and Juliet, which was the first full version choreographed to Prokofiev’s score; and a taste of The State Ballet of Georgia’s Giselle.

Before the film, live music by Four Voices String Quartet will set the scene for an evening of beauty and art. The ensemble, all members of the Minnesota Opera Orchestra, are frequent performers in the Northrop Dance Series. An accomplished classical ensemble, they have collaborated extensively across genres and are currently focusing on works of living female composers.

The film will be subtitled in English, with other accessibility services available upon request.

Dancing Difference: Diversity and Multicultural Awareness

This class will use embodied experiences, lectures, and discussion to increase embodied bias and prejudice awareness, multicultural humility, diversity, and power/privilege senstitivity. This course is approved by the American Dance Therapy Association, for Alternate Route R-DMT credit.

Prerequisites: 2 credits or 30 hours of Movement Observation; 2 credits or 30 hours of General Coursework and 2 credits or 30 hours of DMT Theory and Practice; or permission of instructor.
