Monday classes start June 7. Wednesday and Thursday classes start June 16 and 17, respectively. All classes are offered in a hybrid format – take class in person or via Zoom!

*Note: It is recommended that current Advanced/Pre-Professional students take both the Monday and Thursday classes.

INSTINCT Choreography Intensive Next Week

Join ARENA DANCES’ professional dancers and local pre-professionals this summer for one week of transformative movement exploration. Hone your technique with daily modern classes and then craft your artistry in choreography development with Artistic Director Mathew Janczewksi. 

Work directly with Mathew, as he embarks on a new choreographic process with the intensive students – a unique opportunity! With career development being an emphasis of this intensive, Mathew will also be available for scheduled 1:1 conversations with dancers to offer feedback specific to the dancer or share insights on the field. 

The week will culminate in an informal showing for friends, family and the community. A unique opportunity to dance in Northrop Auditorium’s Hubbard Broadcasting Rehearsal Studio. Additionally, participants will be considered for apprenticeship positions with ARENA DANCES’ for the ‘21-22 Season.

Collide Theatrical Presents WONDERLAND

June 5-20 at Mill City Museum

Join us in WonderLand, a premier psychiatric hospital. Dr. Knight has the difficult task of treating a man who refers to himself as a “White Rabbit” and suffers from a severe anxiety disorder, a young woman named Alice with body dysmorphia, and a Queen figure suffering from narcissistic rage.

As the doctor digs deeply into the causes and roots of their disorders he begins to ask: what does “normal” really mean?< ​ Collide tells this story using its signature blend of high-energy dance styles set to a modern pop-rock soundtrack. The dance theater experience, created to suit safety requirements of COVID-19, will take the audience on an 80-minute ride into a compelling story of friendship and acceptance. Featuring dancers Renee Guittar, Rush Benson, Heather Brockman, Chelsea Rose, Jarod Boltjes, Patrick Jeffrey, Miranda Shaughnessey. The production takes place outside at the Mill City Museum. Join us for our adult/teen drop-in classes! 

Dance is for everyone! Get your body moving and enjoy a variety of dance and conditioning classes, including Pilates. 

You can join us in-person, or virtually via Zoom. All attending dancers must sign-in on MindBody. Class sign-in will close 10 minutes before the class begins. Class size is limited to 10 dancers for in-studio.

Watch Karen’s 10th Anniversary Picks: #4

Every month from March through December 2021, Threads Dance Project will release some of Artistic Director Karen L. Charles’ top dances available pay-as-able from $1, $10, $100, or even $1,000 to view Karen’s selected works!

June’s works include Anger Amplified, Do-Over Effect, and Chaotic Beauty (2017).

Here is what Karen says about these works:

“These excerpts from the larger work Uncertain Reality illustrate two aspects of Chaos that I wanted to share with the audience – the manifestation of chaos in society via discord, fighting and war and later the beauty of chaos as seen in nature via fractals and repetition. This entire piece was one of my most ambitious to date. I worked with visual projection designer Miko Simmons to make one of the most visually beautiful works I have ever created.” –Karen L. Charles, Artistic Director.

Each release will be 20-30 minutes in length.

Once registered, you will receive a private link and password that will allow you to view these works from June 14-27, 2021.

Ballet Royale Offers Male Dancer Ballet Intensive

Unique in Minnesota, this week-long Intensive is for motivated aspiring male dancers ages ten through adult.

Designed by former professional ballet dancer Rick Vogt, this program focuses on strength, power, technique, and performance. These classes provide a rare opportunity for men and boys to gain invaluable skills and insights beyond those presented in mixed classes. Students receive individualized attention and coaching from the state’s foremost male ballet teachers. Classes include ballet technique, targeted strength training, and classical variations.

Dance Camera North

Hosted by Borealis Dance Theatre in Minneapolis, Dance Camera North is an annual international film festival that provides a supportive space for dance filmmakers to challenge choreographic storytelling through film.

This innovative platform creates the opportunity to expand the dynamic performative art of dance to larger audiences while pushing the envelope with what is possible through film.

Join us for the inaugural season celebrating dance on film from around the world! There are two ways to view the festival this year:

Join Ballet Royale for Dalmatians-Inspired Story Ballet Workshop

Give your young dancer the joy of dance and performance!

Saturday, June 19, Ballet Royale is offering a Dalmatians-inspired Creative Story Ballet Workshop! The workshops includes a short performance at the end. Two more workshops are coming up July 17 and August 14. Take one, two, or all three!

Recommended for ages four through nine. Class sizes will be limited to maintain social distancing.

Alternative Motion Project Presents On the Verge with Guest Dameun Strange

Join Alternative Motion Project for a delicious beverage as we return to live performance with the premiere of On The Verge. A cast of nine movers enter a turbulent world to experience the multiverse of limits, possibilities, and connections of the body, space, and identity. Choreographed by Kristin Howe and Joanna Lees, with original composition and performance by award winning Sound Artist, Dameun Strange.

Safety precautions for COVID-19 will be observed.
To follow local guidelines and ordinances, mask wearing will be mandatory.
