Studio Rentals at The Cowles Center

The Cowles Center has several studio spaces available for rent as well as a conference room. All studios have sprung floors and mirrors. Rental spaces are generally intended for dance rehearsals, classes, workshops, auditions, readings, and small meetings.

Rentals are available during building hours.

Pre-Professional Summer Jazz Dance Intensive with Collide

July 19-23 and July 26-30, 2021
Ages sixteen and older.

Train with some of the Twin Cities top talents in theatrical jazz dance while taking your dance and performing skills to the next level. Our program is tailored to meet the individual goals and needs of EACH dancer. ALL ARE WELCOME.

Classes take place at the Collide Studio and virtually.

Monday-Friday, 9:30am-3:30pm

Daily Class Sample Schedule:
9:30-11:00am: Ballet Technique
11:00-12:30pm: Jazz Technique
12:30-3:30pm: Classes in Acting, Commercial Jazz, African, Contemporary, Hip Hop and more!

Teachers include Chelsea Rose, Allyson Richert, Katie Bradley, Da’Rius Malone, and more! The two-week intensive culminates with an opportunity to audition for Collide’s 2021/2022 Performing Apprentice Program.

MotionArt Virtual Children’s Dance Classes

MotionArt focuses on nurturing children’s individual creativity while facilitating their understanding of the dance elements of space, time, and energy. Ages 3-5 explore these elements through playful, structured activities allowing them to expand their movement vocabulary, develop body awareness and gain self-confidence. Ages 5-7 explore the dance elements while being introduced to new movement skills and the creation of their own dances. Ages 7-12 expand their creative and kinesthetic awareness while learning basic movement skills of modern dance.

We offer ways for children to dance during these uncertain times through Zoom and outdoor classes. Please go to motionartmn.org to sign up for classes. There are various options for payment/donations, and no one will be turned away for inability to pay.

Nexus Grand Opening

Come celebrate the Grand Opening of the Threads Dance Nexus as we officially open our doors to the community!

Thanks to your support, we are in our new home in the Focus Arts Building and cannot wait to thank each of you for helping us make this dream possible.

We will be offering staggered tours of the space, sample dance classes, and a chance to view our custom glass Donor Wall, where capital campaign contributors can find their name.

Threads Dance Nexus: Rent Our Space

Our 1,480 square foot space has a professional grade speaker sound system, sprung floors, barres and mirrors, is ADA compliant, and has two gender neutral changing rooms. Its large windows and garage door allow for an abundance of natural light and fresh air.

A new ventilation system and thorough cleaning between each use are compliant with guidelines for Covid-19 preparedness plans. Face coverings are required at all times and our maximum studio capacity is ten people, to allow for adequate distancing.

Conveniently located in the Seward neighborhood, we offer free parking and free side street parking. We are a five-minute walk from the Franklin Light Rail Station, and a 2-5 minute walk from nearest bus stops (lines 2, 9, 22, 67).

A nonrefundable deposit equal to one hour at the renter’s base rate is due to secure space.

Threads Dance Connections Summer Intensive is Open for Early Enrollment

Threads Dance Project is excited to announce the return of our unique summer intensive experience! Even more exciting is that this year’s intensive will serve as a preliminary workshop where students can get early practice with audition material in preparation for our upcoming audition for our new pre-professional dance training program, Youth Dance Project (YDP), scheduled for July 31.

Our Dance Connections 2021 Summer Intensive includes developmentally appropriate movement classes in ballet, modern, creative movement, composition/choreography, improvisation, and hip hop. We are especially eager for your student to experience the distinctive arts activism and dance history course that gives our summer intensive its name!

We invite you to join us in our bright and airy new studio this summer where your student will enjoy rigorous dance education in a fun and inclusive atmosphere. Register by June 1 to receive a discount. Come learn, experience, create and connect with us!

School Admin Intern Wanted

Ballet Co.Laboratory’s School Administration internship is designed for individuals interested in learning the ins and outs of running a pre-professional ballet school. The ideal candidate for this position would have exceptional organization, written, computer, and interpersonal skills. Experience with the software MindBody is a plus. 

Summer Internship
Ten weeks: June–August, 2021
24 hours per week

Main Activities

  • Assist in activities to recruit new students of all ages to The School of Ballet Co.Laboratory
  • Work importing and cleaning up data in MindBody software
  • Help coordinate and execute summer open house events
  • Lead student registration and check-in activities
  • Reset and clean studios in-between classes

Requirements
To ensure an optimal experience for the intern, the following is required:

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Powerpoint).
  • Experience in MindBody is a plus.
  • Ability to identify, evaluate, investigate, and offer alternative solutions to problems.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Good interpersonal communications skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Willingness to learn.

Internship Location
All interns fulfill their hours the Ballet Co.Laboratory’s studios located at 276 E Lafayette Frontage Road in St. Paul. The internship is unpaid, although all interns receive free classes at BCL throughout their internship.

MotionArt Virtual Adult Modern Dance Classes

MotionArt’s mission is to share the art of dance and the joy of movement with people of all ages and abilities. We strive to enrich lives by fostering creativity, body awareness, and self-expression in a fun, non-competitive, welcoming environment.

We offer ongoing dance classes during these uncertain times both virtually on Zoom and outside (maintaining physical distance). Paying the regular rate helps keep our organization afloat; however, no one will be turned away for inability to pay. There is also an option to pay what you can. Graphic Design Intern Wanted

Ballet Co.Laboratory’s Graphic Design Internship is designed for individuals interested in executing and refining their design skills. The ideal candidate for this position would have knowledge of designing for both print/electronic platforms, have experience in photography/videography, be able to hit deadlines, and have creative solutions on how to visually market for our productions, school, outreach events, fundraising campaigns, and more. 

Summer Internship
Ten weeks: June–August 2021
24 hours per week

Main Activities

  • Assist in the creation of the 2021/22 performance season print brochure and online elements
  • Assist in advancing marketing materials to attract new students to our 2021/22 school year
  • Assist in the development of BCL’s 2020/21 Report to the Community (Annual Report)
  • Work to capture photo/video footage of dancers in motion in efforts to create a short season video

Requirements
To ensure an optimal experience for the intern, the following is required:

  • Proficient in Adobe Creative Cloud (Acrobat, InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator).
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Powerpoint).
  • Experience in working with website CMS systems.
