Ananya Dance Theatre’s Shawngram Institute Ongoing Classes

Ananya Dance Theatre’s Shawngram Institute for Performance & Social Justice offers the following classes online:

Tuesdays: Yorchhā Strong, 9:00-9:30am, CDT – Alexandra Eady
Wednesdays: Advanced Yorchhā, 6:30-7:30pm, CDT – Kealoha Ferreira
Fridays: Intro to Yorchhā, 6:30-7:30pm, CDT – Kealoha Ferreira
Sundays: Intro to Yorchhā, 3:00-4:00pm, CDT – Parisha Rajbhandari

Yorchhā is Ananya Dance Theatre’s trade-marked contemporary technique that intersects principles of vinyasa yoga, the classical Indian dance form Odishi (from the eastern Indian state of Odisha), and the martial art form Chhau (also from Odisha).

Classes are donation based. We suggest $10-20 per class but please donʻt let financial limitations stop you from participating. Another way to contribute is by sharing information about the classes on your social media or inviting people in your orbit to take class with you!

This activity is made possible by the voters of Minnesota through a grant from the Metropolitan Regional Arts Council, thanks to a legislative appropriation from the arts and cultural heritage fund.

Dance Without Barriers Applications Open

Dance without Barriers is an opportunity for teachers and administrators to connect creative movement to their curriculum and/or core competencies, engaging students in a new and exciting way.

Each selected school receives a three- to five-day residency, tailor-made to their classroom’s specific needs, and led by a professional Teaching Artist who visits either in-person or virtually through innovative distance learning technology.

By bringing Cowles Center Teaching Artists into schools, barriers of cost and transportation are eliminated, allowing students to access high-quality arts learning opportunities that otherwise would not be available.

Also, thanks to generous sponsorship, these residencies are free to select Minnesota schools!

Applications are due June 2.
