MotionArt Virtual Adult Modern Dance Classes

MotionArt’s mission is to share the art of dance and the joy of movement with people of all ages and abilities. We strive to enrich lives by fostering creativity, body awareness, and self-expression in a fun, non-competitive, welcoming environment.

We offer ongoing dance classes during these uncertain times both virtually on Zoom and outside (maintaining physical distance). Paying the regular rate helps keep our organization afloat; however, no one will be turned away for inability to pay. There is also an option to pay what you can. MotionArt Virtual Children’s Dance Classes

MotionArt focuses on nurturing children’s individual creativity while facilitating their understanding of the dance elements of space, time, and energy. Ages 3-5 explore these elements through playful, structured activities allowing them to expand their movement vocabulary, develop body awareness and gain self-confidence. Ages 5-7 explore the dance elements while being introduced to new movement skills and the creation of their own dances. Ages 7-12 expand their creative and kinesthetic awareness while learning basic movement skills of modern dance.

We offer ways for children to dance during these uncertain times through Zoom and outdoor classes. Please go to motionartmn.org to sign up for classes. There are various options for payment/donations, and no one will be turned away for inability to pay.

Community Movement Collective Open Classes

CoMoCollective offers small group classes for professionals and adult dancers alike to keep us moving together during this uncertain time. For safety, class sizes are limited, temperatures are taken at entrance, and masks are required throughout class. Come join us!

Threads Dance Connections Summer Intensive is Open for Early Enrollment

Threads Dance Project is excited to announce the return of our unique summer intensive experience! Even more exciting is that this year’s intensive will serve as a preliminary workshop where students can get early practice with audition material in preparation for our upcoming audition for our new pre-professional dance training program, Youth Dance Project (YDP), scheduled for July 31.

Our Dance Connections 2021 Summer Intensive includes developmentally appropriate movement classes in ballet, modern, creative movement, composition/choreography, improvisation, and hip hop. We are especially eager for your student to experience the distinctive arts activism and dance history course that gives our summer intensive its name!

We invite you to join us in our bright and airy new studio this summer where your student will enjoy rigorous dance education in a fun and inclusive atmosphere. Register by June 1 to receive a discount. Come learn, experience, create and connect with us!

Threads Dance Nexus: Rent Our Space

Our 1,480 square foot space has a professional grade speaker sound system, sprung floors, barres and mirrors, is ADA compliant, and has two gender neutral changing rooms. Its large windows and garage door allow for an abundance of natural light and fresh air.

A new ventilation system and thorough cleaning between each use are compliant with guidelines for Covid-19 preparedness plans. Face coverings are required at all times and our maximum studio capacity is ten people, to allow for adequate distancing.

Conveniently located in the Seward neighborhood, we offer free parking and free side street parking. We are a five-minute walk from the Franklin Light Rail Station, and a 2-5 minute walk from nearest bus stops (lines 2, 9, 22, 67).

A nonrefundable deposit equal to one hour at the renter’s base rate is due to secure space.

Friday Morning Jazz: Erinn This (and Next) Week

Erinn Liebhard is back at it teaching Friday Morning Jazz class through Zenon Dance School this Friday, May 7 and Friday, May 14! These classes will explore connections between Jazz and House dance. Erinn’s approach to jazz emphasizes groove, interaction and improvisation, is inspired by both social and concert dance movement (particularly that with African diasporic roots), and is driven by jazz music.

Join us for this Zoom-based class that skews intermediate-advanced and welcomes all comers, including drop-ins and first-time attendees! TU Dance Center: Renting TU Dance Center

TU Dance Center is available for rental when not in use by the school.

TU Dance Center features:

Reception area and front desk for check-in or event use. Access to adjacent dressing room and green room with kitchenette are available upon request.

Both studios: sprung dance floor with Marley-type surface by Harlequin, wall of mirrors, portable ballet barre units 10′ in length, room-level sound system with CD and mini-jack inputs, 50′ LCD TV cart for presentation and videoconferencing. Large windows providing ample natural light.

Studio 1 only: a curtain that can be drawn on entire mirror, wall-mounted ballet barres of 27′ and 33′.

AMP is Back with Weekly Movement Practices

Each week: Move BIG from home with Alternative Motion Project! Move and sweat in a weekly online contemporary movement practice. Explore mobility, length, momentum, and 3-D expansion, while pushing the boundaries and physicality of a smaller space in a curious and enlivening environment, often to fun, retro pop hits. Come as you are in the space that you have! Suitable for pre-professional/professional movers in any size space.

Register at least 30 minutes prior to class time.

The Zoom link will be sent to your email address within 24 hours of the class time. You will need a Zoom account to access the practice.

This practice is offered on a sliding scale, $5-15. Payments will directly support instructors. No one will be turned away due to lack of funds. Please email financial concerns and any questions to alternativemotionproject@gmail.com.
