Lisa Erickson Teaches Ballet via Zoom

Let loose your love of BALLET!

Lisa’s ballet classes are crafted to naturally guide students to body alignment that enhances their balance, technique and potential, while also discovering the value and importance of the use of weight in their dancing. Equally important, she trains dancers to develop the positive mindset that leads to success (that ballet, like life, is about 90% related to the stories we tell ourselves). Add to that her expectation that students have fun and appreciate and learn from their mistakes (the bigger the better! i.e., the bigger the mistake the faster we learn!), and each tudents’ experience is one of challenge, growth, empowerment and fun! Come experience it for yourself!

Thursdays: 5:30pm, Intermediate

Sundays: 1:30pm, Slow Intermediate

Mondays: 5:30pm, Advanced Beginning

All classes are offered on a sliding scale of $5-15.

Exploring The Enchantment

The Cowles Center and Minnesota Dance Theatre Artistic Director Lise Houlton look back at previous productions ofThe Enchantment and provide a discussion of themes from the classic fairy tale, “Twelve Dancing Princesses,” which inspired the production. How do those themes resonate in today’s world? Is this a harmless enchantment, a means of escape or something bewitchingly dark and dangerous?

Registration for this virtual showing ends two hours before the show begins. A ticket from this event will give you access to a virtual stream for this show.

Sound Garden Dance Film Screening – This Friday

Join us online this Friday for a special premiere screening of the new POV (point of view) dance film from the site-specific Fall Sound Garden event that took place at Riverside Park in Fall 2020. Hosted by poet and artist organizer Nimo Farah and composer / director JG Everest, with other collaborators joining for a post-screening Q&A. This event is free, but with limited capacity. Register here.

This sound and performance installation film features a dance movement score by Megan Mayer, Leslie O’Neill, Erika Hansen, and Sarah Baumert, with live musical accompaniment by the Free Range Orchestra & Choir, and site-specific poetry by poets Chavonn Shen, Sagirah Shahid, Lisa Yankton, and Annette Schiebout.

Presented by Wavelets Creative in partnership with the Cedar Riverside People’s Center and Springboard for the Arts, as part of the “Because Your Health Matters” community wellness initiative. This activity is made possible by the voters of Minnesota through a grant from the Metropolitan Regional Arts Council’s Community Arts grant, thanks to a legislative appropriation from the arts and cultural heritage fund.

Bharatanatyam and Yoga: A Shared Connection

Northrop Presents
Bharatanatyam and Yoga: A Shared Connection
Monday, April 19, 5:00-6:00pm CDT
At Northrop, with a livestream option available.
FREE and open to the public, registration required.

As an art form, Bharatanatyam demands the conscious understanding of body, mind and spirit; this often translates as the balance of multiple qualities within each movement: strength and flexibility, inner relaxation and focus. Ultimately, both Bharatanatyam and yoga ask the practitioner to find their inner divinity in order to transcend the distractions and obstacles of the physical world.

This free, in-person and online workshop begins with an introduction by Ragamala’s Artistic Directors Ranee and Aparna Ramaswamy, followed by an all-levels yoga practice led by Aaron Asmundson, Program Director for Leadership Enrichment Programs at the University of Minnesota. Bring your own yoga mat and wear comfortable clothes–or join from the comfort of your home.

A child and parent/caregiver creative movement class. This virtual workshop is designed for children (ages two through four) and their parent/caregiver who are interested in a shared movement experience that engages the senses of curiosity and play. Both child and caregiver will participate in developmentally appropriate movement exercises that incorporate elements such as effort, shape, and tempo.
