Young Dance Seeks Program Director

Young Dance, a Twin Cities based dance education nonprofit whose mission is to transform lives through movement, seeks a Program Director, to begin in June 2021.

The Program Director will collaborate with the Young Dance Artistic Director to implement programming for our classes, youth performing company, and community partnerships.

Young Dance serves approximately 450 youth annually through our classes, youth performing company, and community partnerships. Founded in 1987, we believe young people are artists with something important to say, that there is great benefit to working across differences—be it differences in age, in ability, in race, in background—and that every body is capable of physical creative expression.

The Program Director is a 0.5 FTE position with an annual salary of $20,000.

New Season of Studio Stories Coming April 15

After an exciting, thought-provoking three seasons, Studio Stories will return on April 15 for season four of this unique podcast. We have an amazing line-up of artists onboard to share their Twin Cities dance history and reminisce on the arcs of their careers. Some of these voices include Cathy Young, Darrius Strong, Sharon Picasso, Eddie Oroyan and more! 

Studio Stories will continue to air weekly on Thursdays at noon, with host Mathew Janczewski. It is available on all major podcasting platforms, including Apple, Spotify, Deezer, Pocket Casts, and more. You can also listen right on our website!

Young Dance Seeks Marketing and Communications Director

Young Dance, a Twin Cities dance education nonprofit whose mission is to transform lives through movement, seeks a Marketing and Communications Director to spearhead communications related to promotions, programming, and fundraising, to begin June 2021.

The Marketing and Communications Director will be responsible for print and web-based communications related to programming, events, general news, and marketing. They will collaborate with other staff to create engagement with new communities, specifically BIPOC, LGBTQIA+, and people with disabilities.

Young Dance serves approximately 450 youth annually through our classes, youth company, and partnerships.

The Marketing and Communications Director is a 0.45 FTE position with an annual salary of $17,500.

Dance with Ballet Royale this Summer

Dance with Ballet Royale this summer!

Master teachers join our renowned faculty to provide incomparable summer experiences in a structured and focused setting.

June 7-25: Spring into Summer Intensive, featuring Progressing Ballet Technique® cross-training regimen; intermediate/advanced to professional. Audition required.

June 14-18: Male Dancer Intensive, ages ten through professional, multiple levels. Audition/pre-approval required.

July 5-23: July Summer Intensive for ages 8 through professional. Multiple progressive divisions. Audition required for Division II and up (dancers nine and older). 

August 2-13: Grand Prix Variations Workshop. Audition required. Ages nine and up. Pre-competitive, Junior, and Senior Divisions.

August 16-20: Youth Ballet August Jump-Start.

August 22-27: Pointe Preparatory workshop. Girls ages eleven and older.

Plus weekly evening classes July 5-August 12.

TU Dance Center: Renting TU Dance Center

TU Dance Center is available for rental when not in use by the school.

TU Dance Center features:

Reception area and front desk for check-in or event use; access to adjacent dressing room and green room with kitchenette are available upon request.

Both studios: sprung dance floor with Marley-type surface by Harlequin, wall of mirrors, portable ballet barre units 10′ in length, room-level sound system with CD and mini-jack inputs, 50′ LCD TV cart for presentation and videoconferencing. Large windows providing ample natural light.

Studio 1 only: a curtain that can be drawn on entire mirror, wall-mounted ballet barres of 27′ and 33′.

Morgan Thorson Teaches with Moving Practice for Professionals

Moving Practice is a weekly class series for professional dancers. As a collective, we aim to offer classes that prioritize rigor, diversity of contemporary aesthetics, variety of class content, and commitment. 

Tuesdays, 9:30-11:30AM at Saint Paul Ballet.

About Morgan’s classes:
Moving is dancing and dancing is working. We will work with prompts sourced from image, sound, drawing, touch-points, and text, to enhance states of feeling and moving. As we practice with these prompts, we grow somatic grounding, concentration and curiosity for how we make decisions, embody action and cultivate images. With this research we consider the witness as active participant, and frame and space as dynamic materials. I aspire to facilitate a space for personal and collective journey as well as the reorientation of self-perception to the magic we make when we work. Bring your notebooks.

MFA in Dance at Minnesota State University, Mankato

The Department of Theatre and Dance at Minnesota State University, Mankato is excited to announce the addition of the Master of Fine Arts (MFA) in Dance degree to our Graduate Program. We are now accepting applications for Fall 2021.

This three-year program includes tracks in performance and choreography, and offers teaching opportunities and graduate assistantships. Applicants will have opportunities to choreograph and perform in annual dance concerts and theatrical productions in the beautiful, newly renovated 450-seat Ted Paul Theatre and the intimate Andreas theatre.

Students will have the opportunity to attend the ACDA conferences and guest artists are invited into the program for residencies. Students are supported by thirteen faculty and staff members in the department with specialties including choreography, dance performance, history, lighting, costuming, musical theatre, directing, scenic design, and public relations.
