Center for Performing Arts Offers Youth Hip Hop Classes

Beginning Hip Hop: In this class students will learn to dance to a variety of hip hop songs. They will focus on fundamental movements and basic hip hop grooves while also learning the culture and history of hip hop dance!

Sign-up for a summer at the Center! Center for Performing Arts summer camps are an opportunity for youth to fully explore their curiosities, interests and talents while gaining access to the rich community of artists and practitioners at the CFPA.

We offer half day (mornings) and full day camps. Join us for all or one of our 3-week sessions; each with a focus that incorporates dance, storytelling, music and the technical traditions rooted in various cultures.

Off-Leash Area is seeking Homeowners/Hosts for their Eighth Annual Neighborhood Garage Tour!

Do you have a 2-car garage? Do you love the performing arts? Do you enjoy bringing people together? If you answered “yes,” you would be a great host for the Garage Tour!

Off-Leash Area’s Neighborhood Garage Tour is the company’s performing arts access program where the company transforms typical 2-car garages into 40-seat black box theaters, complete with set, lights, stage, seating, and performers to connect with underserved audiences across the Metro, with the overall goal of expanding participation in the arts.

We are especially looking for households with a person with disabilities. Off-Leash Area’s mission includes working for equity and opportunity for all persons with disabilities.

Teaching artists include TU Dance Founder and Artistic Director Toni Pierce-Sands, Laurel Keen, and Abdo Sayegh-Rodriguez. These classes are for intermediate/advanced dancers with the exception of GYROKINESIS® (designed for physically active participants which include exercises that require some flexibility, coordination, and light cardio).

TU Dance Center is available for rental when not in use by TU Dance’s programming. TU Dance Center features a reception area and front desk for check-in or event use. Access to adjacent dressing room and green room with kitchenette are available upon request.

Studio 1 only: A curtain that can be drawn on entire mirror; wall-mounted ballet barres of 27′ and 33′.

MotionArt’s mission is to share the art of dance and the joy of movement with people of all ages and abilities. We strive to enrich lives by fostering creativity, body awareness and self-expression in a fun, non-competitive, welcoming environment. We offer ongoing dance classes in-studio, on Zoom and outside – weather permitting.

Paying the regular rate helps keep our organization afloat; however, no one will be turned away for inability to pay. There is also an option to pay what you can.

Grant to Provide Free Tango Classes to Diverse Communities in Minnesota

Miriam Lea, internationally recognized Argentine Tango artist, dancer, and instructor; is recognized with a MSAB grant for her contribution to Minnesota’s cultural heritage. Miriam Lea will offer a series of free tango classes, workshops, and performances as part of her innovative program, Go Tango!

Go Tango! aims to provide inclusive tango instruction to BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color) communities, LGBTQIA2S+ individuals, and low-income communities across Minnesota. The program, funded by the MSAB grant, runs March through May 2024, fostering cultural exchange and artistic exploration for Minnesotans of all ages and backgrounds.

Miriam Lea Dance will host a variety of tango programming throughout spring 2024, including:

Queer and Beginner Tango Boot Camps
Intensive workshops designed for beginners to receive quick and immersive introductions to tango.

Weekly Continuing Tango Classes
Progressive classes catering to dancers of all levels, offering ongoing instruction and practice opportunities.

Pop-Up Practices
Informal gatherings providing a casual space for dancers to connect and practice their tango skills.

Miriam Lea Dance’s “Go Tango!” program aims to highlight Argentine tango culture and history, foster cultural appreciation and understanding, and provide opportunities for Minnesotans to connect with their communities through shared artistic experiences.

Classes and workshops will culminate in public traditional Milongas (social tango gatherings) and captivating performances, scheduled to take place at Sabathani Community Center and Bataclan Tango in Minneapolis, as well as the Mesabi Community Band from the Iron Range in Minnesota.
