MotionArt Adult Modern Dance Classes

MotionArt’s mission is to share the art of dance and the joy of movement with people of all ages and abilities. We strive to enrich lives by fostering creativity, body awareness, and self-expression in a fun, non-competitive, welcoming environment. We offer ongoing dance classes in-studio, on Zoom, and outside (weather permitting).

Paying the regular rate helps keep our organization afloat; however, no one will be turned away for inability to pay. There is also an option to pay what you can.

Studio Rentals at Collide Theatrical in St. Paul

Need space to rehearse, choreograph, teach, or hold an event? Collide Theatrical has two studios available for rental in our beautiful St. Paul location. Evening and weekend availability!

Studio 1 has 1200 square feet of sprung floor, full wall-length mirrors, Rosco Adagio Marley dance floor, high ceilings, skylights, and 3 chandeliers.
Studio 2 has 450 square feet of sprung wood floor.

Both studios have the following amenities:

  • Ballet barres for up to 18 students
  • Free and accessible parking and access to public transportation line
  • Gender-specific bathrooms (non-gender-specific bathroom available in the adjacent building)
  • Free Wi-Fi
  • Bluetooth room speakers
  • 2 folding tables
  • Access to up to 30 folding chairs
  • Microwave and small refrigerator
  • HVAC heated and cooled spaces with temperature control
  • Hallway drinking fountains

Single Rental: 
Studio 1 – $30/hour
Studio 2 – $20/hour

Long-Term or Multiple-Day Rental: 
Studio 1 – $20/hour
Studio 2 – $15/hour

Rent the Young Dance Studios

Young Dance has two large studios available for rent in the Midway neighborhood of Saint Paul. Easily accessible by the Green Line light rail, the 16 and 67 Bus Lines, and with ample parking in the Fairview Business Center parking lot. The space is fully ADA accessible, with ramps to the sprung studio floor and automatic door openers.

Rentals are currently available:
Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, 8:00am-4:00pm
Tuesday, 11:00am-4:00pm
Friday, 11:00am-4:00pm and 6:30-9:00pm
Saturday, 3:00-9:00pm
Sunday, 8:00am-3:00pm

The studios are newly equipped with sprung Harlequin Marley flooring, a Bluetooth speaker system, and wifi. A projector with AV adapters is available by request. Studio 2 has ballet barres and a mirror. The studio has a clear COVID safety plan, including regular disinfecting of all floors and surfaces and a new HVAC system that refreshes the air 7-8 times per hour.

Studio 1: Measures 41′ x 38′ and rents at $25/hour

Young Dance Offers Summer Classes and Camps

Since 1987, Young Dance has been transforming lives through movement, encouraging youth to build body and spirit through the art of dance. We are an inclusive community where creativity flourishes and healthy risk-taking is encouraged. Our classes are open to everyone of all levels and abilities! 

Weekly Classes
Creative Movement 1: Pre–K, Ages: 3–5. Monday or Tuesday offerings, 4:30–5:15pm
Creative Movement 2: K–1, Ages: 5–7. Monday or Tuesday offerings, 5:15–6:00pm
Dance Together: Ages: 1–3 with caregiver. Monday or Tuesday offerings, 5:15–6:00pm
Session 1: June 3–July 9. Session 2: July 15–August 20.

Dance a Story: Creative Movement and Storytelling for ages 4-7
Monday–Thursday, 9:30am-12:00pm. Tuition: $150
Your little one can explore movement possibilities with a focus on storytelling.
5 sessions. Session 2: July 8–11 is designed for neurodivergent youth and individuals who may be sensitive to stimulation. It will provide a quieter environment and allow for a range of ways to participate.

Camps for Ages 8–18
Explore several dance genres and real-world applications with Young Dance for either the morning or afternoon or register for both for a full day of programming! Dancers who sign up for both a morning and afternoon camp will have a supervised lunch break. Session 3: July 22–25, an additional camp offers dancers with Down Syndrome a space to try various styles and express themselves through movement.

Morning Camps: Monday–Thursday, 9:00–11:30am. Tuition: $150
In a Specialty Dance Camp, dancers explore how dance connects to other art forms and the world around them. Camps include Afro-Latin Fusion, Choreography, All Abilities Dancing + Stories, Dance + Photography, and more!

Afternoon Camps: Monday–Thursday, 12:00–4:30pm. Tuition: $250
Variety Dance Camp introduces participants to dance forms from some of the Twin Cities’ best educators. Styles include Afro-Latin Fusion, Ballet, Choreography, Hip Hop, Improv, Jazz, Modern, Yoga, and more!

All Abilities Dancing Classes and Camps
Dancing with Wheels for ages 11+
Wednesdays, 5:00–6:00pm. Tuition: $150 or with a class card.
June 5-August 21. No class on June 19 or July 3.
Build dance skills and express yourself through movement for youth and adults with wheeling devices.

All Abilities Dancing
Wednesdays, 6:30–7:30pm. Tuition: $150 or with a class card.
June 5-August 21. No class on June 19 or July 3.
Express yourself while you explore the elements of dance and develop skills in improvisation and collaboration. For adults with and without disabilities.

South Minneapolis Studio Available for Rent

The Sabathani Community Center in South Minneapolis has a dance studio available for hourly rental. The space includes mirrors, ballet barres, hardwood floor, and free parking.

Rehearsals and photo shoots: $15/hour
Classes and auditions: $20/hour

Available for rent Monday through Friday, 7:00am-9:00pm and Saturdays, 10:00am-4:00pm. Closed Sundays.

Performance Photographer Needed

Heartbeat Performing Arts Center is currently looking for a photographer for their four productions each year. Must have experience in photographing dance and acting.

Our next production is on June 23, 2024, and will be held in Bloomington, MN at Ives Theater.

The Threads Dance Nexus is a brand new community hub that not only provides a home for Threads Dance Project but also strengthens the social fabric of our Minneapolis community through the connective power of dance.

Our 1,480 square foot (37′ x 40′) space has:
A professional-grade speaker sound system.
Barres, mirrors, and sprung floors.
Two ADA-compliant, gender-neutral changing rooms.
Large windows and garage door allowing for an abundance of natural light and fresh air.

Conveniently located in the Seward neighborhood, we offer free parking and free side street parking. We are a five-minute walk from the Franklin light rail station and a 2-5 minute walk from the nearest bus stops (lines 2, 9, 22, and 67).
