MotionArt Adult Modern Dance Classes

MotionArt’s mission is to share the art of dance and the joy of movement with people of all ages and abilities. We strive to enrich lives by fostering creativity, body awareness and self-expression in a fun, non-competitive, welcoming environment.

We offer ongoing dance classes on Zoom and outside (weather permitting) and will begin offering in-studio classes mid-July. Paying the regular rate helps keep our organization afloat; however, no one will be turned away for inability to pay. There is also an option to pay what you can.

Erin Thompson Teaches Advanced Contemporary Classes In Person

Erin’s advanced level contemporary Zoom class through Zenon Dance School includes floor work, standing warm-ups, and phrase work, all designed to enhance the healthy use of joints and muscle groups as dancers release their weight fully into the support of the ground. Experiential awareness, body mapping, improvisation, and creative work are included as dancers channel their own expressive artistry within the movement. The delightful Dean Magraw will accompany on guitar.

Thursday mornings, 9:30-11:00am

Ballet Royale Offers Summer Evening Classes for All Ages

From our youngest Mommy/Daddy and Me dancers to advanced dancers and adults, everyone can train at Ballet Royale this summer. We are offering once a week evening classes on Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday for six weeks beginning the week of July 5.

Friday Morning Jazz Hybrid Class: Karla This Week

Let’s get back to it, dancers!

Summer session at Zenon Dance School started last week, and that means Friday Morning Jazz is back with it! Our hybrid class runs Fridays from 10:00-11:15am CST. You can register to be one of the eight in-person, masked, socially-distanced students–sign up by 5:00pm on Thursday, or you can Zoom into class, as we have been this past year.

Co-teachers Karla Grotting and Erinn Liebhard, along with Zenon, are taking great care to ensure that both the in-person and Zoom options will be high-quality, so join us! This week, Karla is teaching, and she’ll give you a body-friendly warm-up, help you build some heat, find your groove, and to dig into jazz dancing.

Coordi™ Class

Engage in fun physical brain teasers to hone your balance, coordination, and brain health. This movement-based virtual class is open to all abilities — no dance experience necessary. It’s a work out for both brain and body!

Mondays, 6:00PM CT, more active

Wednesdays, 10:00AM CT, lower impact

Body Watani: body-as-homeland practice and Arabic dance with Leila Awadallah

TU Dance Center’s open classes are back! Join us for in-person dance classes for intermediate/advanced dancers with teaching Artist Leila Awadallah.

Body Watani (body-as-homeland practice and Arabic dance)

A class in two parts.
Weaving questions around ancestral, home/land roots and memories of place and beings, the first half of Body Watani practice is a guided improvisation endeavor in unraveling, seeking, and grappling with what notions of home and complex histories live within each of our different, and specific bodies. Led by Palestinian American artists Leila and Noelle Awadallah, the second half of Body Watani activates movement techniques and choreographic material rooted in SWANA / Arabic dance and music, ranging from traditional to experimental.

TU Dance Center is continuing to have COVID-related restrictions. A limited number of dancers will be allowed per class. Dancers must complete the TU Dance Center Health Self-Assessment within 24 hours of class start time, and must practice social distancing and wear a mask during their visit and while taking dance classes. These classes will be provided only in person.
