TU Dance Center’s open classes are back! Join us for in-person dance classes for intermediate/advanced dancers with teaching Artist Laurel Keen.

Fridays, 10:30am-12:00pm

Cost: $15
Please register a minimum of 24 hours in advance.

If using a class card, please email us at education@tudance.org with your name, class title and class date at least 24 hours in advance. Upon arrival at TU Dance Center, please present your class card to a TU Dance staff member or Teaching Artist.

TU Dance Center is continuing COVID-related restrictions. A limited number of dancers will be allowed per class. Dancers must complete the TU Dance Center Health Self-Assessment within 24 hours of class start time, and must practice social distancing and wear a mask during their visit and while taking dance classes. These classes will be provided only in person.

We offer ongoing dance classes during these uncertain times both virtually on Zoom and outside (maintaining physical distance). MotionArt Virtual Children’s Dance Classes

MotionArt focuses on nurturing children’s individual creativity while facilitating their understanding of the dance elements of space, time, and energy. Ages 3-6 explore these elements through playful, structured activities allowing them to expand their movement vocabulary, develop body awareness and gain self-confidence. Ages 7-9 explore the dance elements while being introduced to new movement skills and the creation of their own dances. Ages 9-12 expand their creative and kinesthetic awareness while learning basic movement skills of modern dance.

We offer ways for children to dance during these uncertain times through outdoor classes, weather permitting (contact Pam Gleason for info). Please go to motionartmn.org to sign up for classes. There are various options for payment/donations, and no one will be turned away for inability to pay.

Drop-In GYROKINESIS® Method Classes

The GYROKINESIS® Method was developed by Romanian émigré and professional ballet dancer Juliu Horvath in the late 1970s and early 80s. Movement patterns are rhythmic, with a coordinated breath. The GYROKINESIS® Method will connect you to your center and build functional strength in parallel and rotation.

Saturday Open Ballet with Justin Leaf

Justin Leaf is teaching six Saturdays of open Intermediate-Advanced Ballet in studio 2B at The Cowles Center, May 15 through June 19. Preregistration is required.

The studio will be available 15 minutes before and after class for warm-up/stretching. While student capacity is limited, all musical accompaniment for class will be prerecorded. Open to ages 14 and up.

COVID SAFETY:
• Maximum 9 students per class.
• Masks must be worn over nose and mouth throughout class and at all times while in the building.
• Dressing rooms will not be available. (There are bathrooms available if needed, but it’s advised that you come dressed to dance.)
• Please observe physical distancing at all times in the studio.
• Please don’t come to class if you’re experiencing any Covid symptoms or if you’ve been around anyone with symptoms.
• The Cowles Center staff disinfects the space before and after class.
• Registered students will be sent a health-screen form in the 24 hours leading up to the class. It can be completed online or in person before class begins.

Erin Thompson Teaches Advanced Contemporary Classes In Person

Erin’s advanced level contemporary Zoom class through Zenon Dance School includes floor work, standing warm-ups, and phrase work, all designed to enhance the healthy use of joints and muscle groups as dancers release their weight fully into the support of the ground. Experiential awareness, body mapping, improvisation, and creative work are included as dancers channel their own expressive artistry within the movement. The delightful Dean Magraw will accompany on guitar.
